Wow....

Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.

What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

There needs to be a snopes,  or similar site dedicated just to this virus and keep dumbasses from answering the posted questions.  There is so much bull shit going around it pisses me off.  Tonight I'm hearing of ammo hoarding because of the threat of people breaking into houses to steal food because of a pending food shortage.....for fuck sake food us about the only thing we still make in this country and we make a shit  load of it,  why in Gods name would any dumb ass think we are going to have a food shortage in the US unless their diet consists mainly of sushi and stinky French cheese?

@"purplefaithful" said: Best Buy to temporarily close all stores aside from curbside pickup starting Sunday

As the scale of the coronavirus pandemic accelerates, Richfield-based Best Buy has decided to temporarily close its stores aside from curbside pickup starting Sunday.
The electronics chain has also now suspended all in-home installations and repairs.
Earlier this week, Best Buy said it would keep its stores open, but would restrict access to only 10 to 15 customers at one time starting next week for at least two weeks. But that plan changed as the week went on.
“The situation we’re facing as a company and as individuals is unprecedented and changing at a pace all of us are working to keep up with,” Best Buy CEO Corie Barry said in a statement. “We are making the best decisions we can with two goals in mind: protecting employees, customers and their respective families, while trying our best to serve the millions of Americans who rely on us for increasingly vital technology.”
Through curbside pickup, customers will be able to pick orders purchased online or through the retailer’s app. Customers who are unable to place an online order can also use curbside to see if a product is in stock in the store and employees can go inside the store to get it, the company said.
It is not clear how long the curbside-only service will last.
While some employees have been questioning why Best Buy has remained open while many other retailers have closed to help curb the spread of the coronavirus, the company has emphasized that it provides a number of “necessities” such as technology that allows people to work and learn from home as well as appliances to prepare and store food.
“We are seeing a surge in demand across the country for products that people need to work or learn from home, as well as those products that allow people to refrigerate or freeze food,” Barry said.

This is how I spent my entire day on Friday. I was glad the decision was made to just do it. We were attempting to juggle different directives by state along with location by location support for some store closures. The operation is pretty large but we are turning on dimes these days. And the corporate office went from 'please work from home' to mandatory work from home. It's a good call.

I ordered in yesterday and tipped as generously as I could. I feel awful for many in the service industry who have already been impacted.

Sending good juju your way Havoc...

From what I am just hearing, limited testing kit capacity is being reserved for the most at risk and health employees, first responders...

OTOH, I'm hearing NY State testing is now higher per capita than So K. And the famous dont seem to have an issue getting tested - and posting about it.

What state are you in???

South Dakota. That’s the problem here. They ran out of tests the other day so as they come in they go to the most needy. For me it’s unlikely anything would change even if I knew for sure I had it I’ve been at the house since Thursday last week.
I seem to be doing fine. Last 4 days there’s been very little change. My lungs are congested and I’m short of breath. That and fatigue are about the only symptoms I have now.

Update: about an hour after this post I coughed up blood. About a silver dollar in size. So needless to say, I was tested about 3pm. It will take 5-7 days because CDC has to run it. Just a bit too early for the rapid tests.

If anyone is wondering, they use a drive in system here in an ambulance bay at a satellite facility. It’s a bit surreal pulling into the bay with the folks in full respirator gear. The test is a deep swab of each nostril. Takes no time. Now I wait and hope for a negative test.

My wife flew to NY 2 weeks ago today. At that time they had 1 recorded case.
NY is definitely the hotspot in the US, followed by CA. I heard from some CDC people today that they are  very concerned about some other metropolitans with New Orleans, Boston and Philly topping that list...

I know, we all want to insert some kinda fan joke "here"

Of nearly 30,000 cases in the United States, more than 15,000 are in New York state, including more than 9,000 in New York City.

New York to shut down as it becomes next virus hot spot

By JIM MUSTIAN and JEFFREY COLLINS Associated PressMarch 22, 2020 — 4:00pm
NEW YORK — New York City's mayor prepared Sunday to order his city behind closed doors in an attempt to slow a pandemic that has swept across the globe and threatened to make the city of 8.5 million one of the world's biggest coronavirus hot spots. Officials worldwide warned of a critical shortage of medical supplies.

Mayor Bill de Blasio also called for getting everything from masks to gowns, as well as doctors and other medical workers to New York City, and asked President Donald Trump to have the U.S. military take over the logistics of making and distributing medical supplies.
“I can’t be blunt enough. If the president doesn’t act, people will die who could have lived otherwise,” de Blasio told NBC's “Meet The Press.”
The top infectious disease expert in the U.S. promised New York City and the other hardest-hit places that critical supplies will not run out.
The medical supplies are about to start pouring in and will be “clearly directed to those hot spots that need it most,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on CBS' “Face The Nation.”
But Fauci and other emergency officials did not give hard figures on the number of masks or anything else on their way. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo urged federal officials to step in quickly as hard-hit states outbid each other for ever scarcer supplies, sometimes doubling or tripling prices.
In Washington, negotiators from Congress and the White House resumed top-level talks on a $1.4 trillion economic rescue package, urged by President Donald Trump to strike a deal to steady a nation upended by the coronavirus pandemic. Trump appeared confident about the nation’s ability to defeat the pandemic soon even as health leaders acknowledged that the U.S. was nowhere near the peak of the outbreak.

Well...I tested positive, got the call yesterday morning.  Spent most of yesterday on the phone with my boss and people from corporate, because they needed to nail down each and every coworker/customer that I'd interacted with Monday and Tuesday.

For what it's worth, I've had mild flu symptoms since Wednesday morning, so...maybe I luck out and only have a mild case.

My home town is getting shut down here in SD since they have linked new cases to being community spread and not people catching it elsewhere and bringing it home.  Hopefully they get a quick handle on it since this is where my daughter and SIL have set up home as RNs.

Dang Z, I was hoping that wasn't going to be the case. You're out in Washington State correct?

God bless the medical staff's...I have a niece and her husband on the medical front lines and they've got a newbie at home. Scary times indeed.
