OT: Coronavirus
Wow....
Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.
What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

Do you find this helpful?
I think it underscores how there's going to be lots of people wondering wtf this flu/cold season

Let me give you one example:A friend's daughter just started at the University of Colorado....really had no business going anywhere away from home as her parents have spoiled her HORRIBLY and she can barely tie her own shoes (she's 19). She texts and Facetimes her Mom at least 10 times a day WHEN SHE LIVED AT HOME.....but that's another story. She's an entitled little bitch (sorry, but she is....I hate to say it but its true). So long story short, she got COVID. Boulder county in Colorado has had a dramatic spike in cases the last 2 weeks and the University is the culprit. She's crying, telling her Mom she wants to come home. Her roommate also has it. Her roommate after 2 days GOT ON AN AIRPLANE and came home....with COVID. Then this girl did the same after another day. The parents didn't make either of them stay for the 14 days. Wanted their babies home to take care of them. Another friend has 2 nieces and a nephew (ages 26, 28 and 30) that live in Chicago and St.Louis....all 3 got COVID. Why? Went to a 40 person birthday party.
This shit is happening all over the country. Now schools and colleges are open and the cases are spiking.
I think this sense of entitlement isn't just about youth. I think it might be why America is struggling so much more than other countries. We've had it good for so long that many in this country think they're entitled to a certain level of freedom, a certain level of happiness, and no goddam chang flu is going to prevent that.During night time bombing raids over Britain, every citizen of London would shut their lights off to make it harder for Nazi pilots to find the city. Not just to protect their house, but to protect all houses. I don't think that would happen in America today. Some dickwad would argue about his right to keep his lights on.

Absolutely these helicopter parents are not helping. These young people are so not prepared for the real world and that's on the parents. It's definitely about the adults which includes the anti-maskers that went to protest because of an infringement on their freedoms and rights. Seriously? That is such selfish bullshit that they blatantly disregard the health and safety of others.

A conspiracy theorist politician who branded coronavirus a hoax and claimed it was part of a ‘socialist agenda’ has been killed by Covid-19.
Former Nashville councilor Tony Tenpenny, 57, died of the virus over the weekend, after spending months branding it an overblown fabrication. Tenpenny, a Donald Trump supporter, shared a post on May 30 that the virus had been whipped up to try and stop Trump being re-elected on November 3. In June, he share a meme claiming mask wearers had been ‘manipulated to live in irrational fear’ and blasted them for being ‘controlled by a socialist agenda. ‘
Tenpenny continued his ranting posts through July, branding the World Health Organization and US Centers for Disease Control ‘pure lying asses’. He shared outlandish conspiracy theories, including one from a rogue doctor beloved of Donald Trump who linked coronavirus to demons. He also claimed ongoing lockdowns across the United States were about ‘shutting down the US economy, blaming Trump, & setting up a One World Govt.’ Tenpenny continued sharing the posts on his now deactivated Facebook account until August.

I think stupid knows no geography.I have to wonder if this person knew better, but spouted this nonsense for political reasons. If that's the case, he deserved what he got for spreading dangerous, even lethal, lies. It's very possible his propaganda killed people.
If he didn't know better, if he really believed that hoax bullshit, then he probably didn't belong in a position of leadership. How does one do that? How does one graduate from college (presumably), live out in the real world and believe that the pandemic, which has now, verifiably, killed over a million people world wide, is a hoax meant to shut down the US economy, drive a socialist agenda and set up a one-world government. That's just batshit.
I feel bad for his family, but science needs to study people like this.

Being educated does not guarantee common sense or not being gullible. Being intellectually dishonest or disingenuous in times like these as a public figure should come with a jail sentence. Its way worse than being ignorant, its malice.
Ignorant can be cured, stupid has a higher probability of being terminal.

That's either the richest irony in history or the actual wrath of god at work. Or maybe both.
Target HQ employees won't return to downtown offices until at least June 2021The company is working on a long-term model that will combine telecommuting with remote work, executives said.Target let its Twin Cities corporate employees know Thursday morning that the majority of employees will continue to work virtually through at least June 2021 because of the threat of the coronavirus.
The news comes as downtown Minneapolis, like other major urban business districts, is practically a a ghost town with only about one in 10 workers regularly working in their physical offices.
Target is downtown Minneapolis’ largest employer, with more than 8,500 corporate employees.
Target executives said the company expects to incorporate remote working into its future workplace plans as well.
“Importantly, our headquarters planning is not just about a date when we’ll return to our buildings,” said Melissa Kremer, chief human resources officer, in an e-mail to employees. “Like many others, we’re taking this time to reimagine the future role of the office and where and how work gets done.”
Target is looking at incorporating remote work into its culture for a “hybrid model” in the future, which the company believes will offer more flexibility while also working face-to-face meeting back into the mix.
“Our intent is to blend the best of both work environments,” she said.
A small number of necessary Target employees whose work is most dependent on the headquarters facilities will continue to work from Target’s offices as the company monitors health guidelines. The Nicollet Mall store also remains open.
