There goes JJ McCarthy - Giants
Kinda of explains why McCarthy was inactive for the Bucs game...
I think we can say what we want about what KOC thinks about JJM, but I think this is a fairly large risk for KOC's reputation. If there's any chance that JJM looks halfway decent for the Giants, that is hugely damning for KOC's reputation as a developer of QBs. If you combine that with what happens if Murray doesn't look playoff caliber. Like imagine the scenario, where Murray looks like a bottom half of the league starter, but JJM has a couple of those clutch wins he had last year.
I think there's no way that I would have traded him for so little if I was KOC. Like just bury him in the depth chart or whatever. Just don't open up the possibility for him to look good with someone else.

Yah, KOC branding make take a hit. But this is Teasley's move. Certainly the HC (and maybe players and asst coaches) had input, but the buck stops with Teasley.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
ESPN trade grade, surprisingly most of the grades have us doing well, interesting ESPN article which definitely makes it sound like it had more to do than just his play. I don't think it makes sense for the Giants, because by the time he comes in and learns the system is he going to be able to help them win games, think it will take him time to develop in their system and they would have been better off with a veteran who could step in quicker. It is not like they need him to be their future with Dart there, it is all about this year.
Giants grade: C
Vikings grade: B+
A few thoughts:
The relationship between JJM and KOC was broken. What happened, we will never fully know. It was more than the end zone griddy. More than pulling out from the preseason game. My guess is there was something more fundamental that happened with his injury/rehab/playbook study that did not sit well. Maybe a refusal to make adjustments in his mechanics. Maybe something else. But KOC has a pretty long leash, and with his comments about organizations failing young QBs there was every reason to think that KOC would continue to mentor and develop JJM. It was not happening and there is pretty clearly a story about why.
I'd be very nervous if I were KOC. Teasley is cleaning house and KOC certainly gets no pass on the JJM selection and accountability for his development and play.
The crazy carousel that is the Vikings QB history takes another strange turn. Really unbelievable. And I think there is no Plan B if K! does not ball out as the season progresses. We (and others) have seen that Wentz is no more than competent #2. After seeing Brosmer last season and in pre-season, he's not worthy of developing, IMHO -- All of JJM's flaws with a fraction of his physical skills. We've once again put ourselves in a terrible position at QB that has every risk of feeding the next mistake (signing K!? massive trade? move up in draft? another recycled vet FA (Kirko))?
Just shaking my head over history repeating itself and asking myself why and will it ever end?
Guys hear me out...

Well said...
And lets not forget, the owners had to approve this.
There was probably some bad s hit going on behind the scenes to predicate this, not that im making excuses for 5th rd compensation.
I started a whole separate thread that this feels like the first shoe to drop and NT is cleaning house, putting his stank on things going forward.

What are some examples of his long leash?
When I look at it, it looks like anyone who wasn't perfect has been shipped out immediately.

Yes, and perhaps KOC is finally over his ego. Take the pick and move on, Teasley is in charge of the roster. This definitely is the tone I am seeing.
The #Giants reached out to the #Vikings last Wednesday once Jaxson Dart was declared out for the season. The two talked from then until yesterday, and the deal was done either late last night or early this morning.

This is exactly what I said, but got accused of beating a dead horse!😬
I have been trying to tell anyone who would listen why there is NO history of teams benching a first-round pick via an offseason acquisition -- as the Vikings did this spring -- and then eventually giving that player his job back. Today's decision really happened in March.

Yeah, and his comments in TC as well. Obviously he wasn't endearing himself to the coaches. That and his high rate of injury wasn't worth keeping around. Refusal to play, pulling himself out over an injury he decided to play with. Something ain't right in the head.
Man, I’m glad someone else saw it this way too.

You nailed it. Stretch before your victory lap. I’ve got a cold one when you’re done.
Sorry it didn’t pan out for you personally and the franchise in general. I know what it’s like to get hyped on a prospect to only see them fail. Brutal

Thanks, man, I have grieved already for JJ many months ago, knew officially was over when K1 came on board. Onward and upward!
Kyler had 3 passes knocked down at the line and one was picked. He threw a few in the ground and looked lost. Probably was told not to run. What are we looking forward to?

Yeah, I suspect the relationship soured sometime in 2025. I heard from a reliable person at the time that KOC was lobbying to keep Darnold coming off his 2024 season. Basically wanted to keep a talented guy who fit his system and give JJ McCarthy time to develop after a missed rookie season. But Kwesi won out on that and pivoted to pursuing Daniel Jones on a 1-yr deal and struck out there. It makes sense then why there was so much chatter about Rodgers during the 2025 off-season.
Now did KOC take out some of that frustration with the QB decision on JJ McCarthy? Did he do enough to set him up to succeed given the circumstances? Did JJ McCarthy hold up his end by being coachable and doing all the right things the coaches asked of him? We'll never know the whole story, but teams don't give up on young QBs that quickly for no reason. I'm sure there is blame on both sides. It sucks because we're back to looking for a franchise QB and we likely don't have one in the building right now.

Yeah, I said he would have been traded before week 1. Then he wasn't. I was a little confused by it. Just wish we weren't watching much of the same as last year when everyone said it was on JJM. Yet, it is not on Murray under the same circumstances.
