Wow....

Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.

What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

40,000 retired medical workers have volunteered to help New Yorkers
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the number of volunteers during the coronavirus crisis has been “inspiring.”
Cuomo said 40,000 retired medical staff volunteered, with 12,000 more people in one day volunteering to help work at health care facilities.
There have also been 8,600 mental health professionals volunteering.
“Easy times don’t forge character. It’s the tough times that forge character,” he said.

The unemployment scares the shit out of me. In a recession, companies shed jobs here and there. And typically its only within a few sectors. Sometimes it's even regional. With this, every single bar, restaurant, barber, hotel, airline, specialty shop, auto parts, retail store in every single state will be laying off not just some, but likely most of their staff. Sure, it's temporary, but the list is endless.

Again, the unemployed is where this stimulus should be directed. Not only are those people easy to identify since they have to apply for it, but you could feasibly mitigate a big part of the looming economic crisis. It is absolutely ABSURD that the bulk of 2 TRILLION dollars is just going to disappear like a fart in the wind when we start sending out those stupid checks to people who don't need them.

OTOH, this is also a stimulus package with the hope the broader population will spend - including above avg income hh's.

That's the idea. But you know what they won't be spending it on? All those businesses above...It's like a double whammy to those hit the hardest.

(CNN) — A woman purposely coughed on $35,000 worth of food at a Pennsylvania grocery store, police said. She likely faces criminal charges for coughing, one of the primary ways the novel coronavirus spreads.
The unnamed woman entered small grocery chain Gerrity's Supermarket in Hanover Township and started coughing on produce, bakery items, meat and other merchandise, chain co-owner Joe Fasula wrote on Facebook. Staff quickly removed her from the store and called Hanover Township Police, who found her a few hours later and took her into custody, Police Chief Albert Walker told CNN.  Hanover Township police said the woman "intentionally contaminated" the food, and they plan to file criminal charges against her once her mental health treatment concludes. Officials don't believe she's infected with coronavirus but "will make every effort to see that she is tested," Fasula wrote.
Employees at Gerrity's Supermarket in Hanover Township disposed of $35,000 worth of produce that the woman had contact with and disinfected the areas where she coughed.
Despite considering what she did a "very twisted prank," Fasula said the store threw out every item she came into contact with and worked with a local health inspector to identify and disinfect areas she entered.  Ultimately, he said, the store disposed of $35,000 worth of food.  "I am absolutely sick to my stomach about the loss of food," Fasula said. "While it is always a shame when food is wasted, in these times when so many people are worried about the security of our food supply, it is even more disturbing."
It's not clear what charges the woman may face when she leaves mental health treatment. But on Wednesday, the Department of Justice affirmed that people who intentionally spread the novel coronavirus could be charged with terrorism

I know this above average income family will be spending any money I get right towards my kids college.  So not really stimulating the economy.  That said I doubt I get any money anyway which I have no problem with.

But I did lose over 30% of my 401K (I guess I had more in risky stocks) so I will be working much longer and pumping in my share of taxes plus some.

3,000 NYC police officers have called in sick. That city is in dire straights. One of the problems is wealthy New Yorkers are fleeing to their 2nd homes across the country, spreading out the virus even more. South Florida has an executive order from the Governor that all flights from New York the passengers have to self quarantine for 14 days. They are being heat tested at the gates. They have an app to track them. Crazy shit.

Good on them

Thought the same thing, no way I would ever wear those things, I wear stylish Keens.  Then I was hobbling around with plantar fasciitis, got the shots, orthotics.  Now I find my self wearing a pair of those things and Birkenstocks around the house.  Didn't start wearing them in public, but now depending where I am going, Theisen's Crocs, food coop Birks.  Comfortable as hell, but a true fashion statement.  Styling is getting out with the Hoka One One's on, that's when I wanna impress the chicks.

These little beauties right here are called OOFOS, they are the most comfortable flip flop I've ever worn and 2nd place isn't close. I get that down here in Florida you get to wear flips more, but I can walk 3 miles in these easy:

In Iran, false belief a poison fights virus kills hundreds

By NASSER KARIMI and JON GAMBRELL Associated PressMarch 27, 2020 — 5:30am
TEHRAN, Iran — Standing over the still body of an intubated 5-year-old boy wearing nothing but a plastic diaper, an Iranian health care worker in a hazmat suit and mask begged the public for just one thing: Stop drinking industrial alcohol over fears about the new coronavirus.
The boy, now blind after his parents gave him toxic methanol in the mistaken belief it protects against the virus, is just one of hundreds of victims of an epidemic inside the pandemic now gripping Iran.
Iranian media report nearly 300 people have been killed and more than 1,000 sickened so far by ingesting methanol across the Islamic Republic, where drinking alcohol is banned and where those who do rely on bootleggers. An Iranian doctor helping the country's Health Ministry told The Associated Press on Friday the problem was even greater, giving a death toll of around 480 with 2,850 people sickened.
The poisonings come as fake remedies spread across social media in Iran, where people remain deeply suspicious of the government after it downplayed the crisis for days before it overwhelmed the country.
"Other countries have only one problem, which is the new coronavirus pandemic. But we are fighting on two fronts here," said Dr. Hossein Hassanian, an adviser to Iran's Health Ministry who gave the higher figures to the AP. "We have to both cure the people with alcohol poisoning and also fight the coronavirus."
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, or death.

I agree. My sister is a doctor and she swears by them. It's a great thing they are doing.
