Wow....

Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.

What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

always wondered,  is that midnight tomorrow night or midnight between friday and saturday?   and if they are waiting until the end of the week... is this really necessary?  If things have escalated so quickly that we are asking everybody to stay home,  why wait another 60 hours to put it into effect?
Gotta give 'em time to congregate and buy more toilet paper Jimmy!

A grocery store threw out $35,000 in food that a woman intentionally coughed on, sparking coronavirus fears, police said

(CNN) — A woman purposely coughed on $35,000 worth of food at a Pennsylvania grocery store, police said. She likely faces criminal charges for coughing, one of the primary ways the novel coronavirus spreads.
The unnamed woman entered small grocery chain Gerrity's Supermarket in Hanover Township and started coughing on produce, bakery items, meat and other merchandise, chain co-owner Joe Fasula wrote on Facebook. Staff quickly removed her from the store and called Hanover Township Police, who found her a few hours later and took her into custody, Police Chief Albert Walker told CNN.
Hanover Township police said the woman "intentionally contaminated" the food, and they plan to file criminal charges against her once her mental health treatment concludes. Officials don't believe she's infected with coronavirus but "will make every effort to see that she is tested," Fasula wrote.
Employees at Gerrity's Supermarket in Hanover Township disposed of $35,000 worth of produce that the woman had contact with and disinfected the areas where she coughed.
Despite considering what she did a "very twisted prank," Fasula said the store threw out every item she came into contact with and worked with a local health inspector to identify and disinfect areas she entered.
Ultimately, he said, the store disposed of $35,000 worth of food.
"I am absolutely sick to my stomach about the loss of food," Fasula said. "While it is always a shame when food is wasted, in these times when so many people are worried about the security of our food supply, it is even more disturbing."
It's not clear what charges the woman may face when she leaves mental health treatment. But on Wednesday, the Department of Justice affirmed that people who intentionally spread the novel coronavirus could be charged with terrorism

The unemployment scares the shit out of me. In a recession, companies shed jobs here and there. And typically its only within a few sectors. Sometimes it's even regional. With this, every single bar, restaurant, barber, hotel, airline, specialty shop, auto parts, retail store in every single state will be laying off not just some, but likely most of their staff. Sure, it's temporary, but the list is endless.

Again, the unemployed is where this stimulus should be directed. Not only are those people easy to identify since they have to apply for it, but you could feasibly mitigate a big part of the looming economic crisis. It is absolutely ABSURD that the bulk of 2 TRILLION dollars is just going to disappear like a fart in the wind when we start sending out those stupid checks to people who don't need them.

Agree, focus should be on the unemployed and not on those (like me) who still have employment.  But it is good politics (for any political party) to hand out checks and hug babies :)

The bar/restaurant is specifically dicey - IMO.  Many will not recover at all.  Many of the workers are paid partial or most of their wages under-the-table for the benefit of the owners taxes.  So when they file for unemployment they will probably get the bare minimum.

This is going to hurt our economy for years to come not just months.

Those #'s released today saddens me too...We're living our lives straight out of fiction novel these days. One that would make Stephen King run and hide.

It makes intuitive sense to me that a significant % of this needs to go to the unemployed.

OTOH, this is also a stimulus package with the hope the broader population will spend - including above avg income hh's.

It's certainly debatable as to how that will transpire (or not)..
