OT: Coronavirus
Wow....
I’ve flown in and out of Denver Airport roughly 50 times. I’ve never seen it empty like this.
Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.
What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

It's my mother's 75th birthday today. B) Decided to give her toilet paper as an early half-serious, half-joke gift on our weekly Sunday visit. Our formerly 24-hour Walmart had changed their hours to 6-11. I get there at maybe 6:02... oops, they had changed the hours again Thursday to 7-8:30 :/ Go back home, kill time, walking back to Walmart a couple minutes before 7 and I start seeing cars going by me toward the store. Uh-oh.
Come into view of the parking lot and while it was hardly full, it was ridiculous for 7AM on a Sunday. People had clearly shown up early and waited to rush the place. Get to the paper aisle at about 7:05... and it's already almost gone. Signs on the shelves asking customers to please limit their purchase to 1 package were completely ignored, as everybody I saw with TP had two or more in their cart. I started out noble and took 1 6-roll pack, intending to split with mom. I get a couple TV dinners and snacks to save a future trip since I'm there anyway, and keep seeing literally every cart with TP in it having multiple packages. So I went back to the paper aisle, saw there were still a couple left, told my nobility to get slightly bent, and got a second 6-roll pack so now me and mom would have 1 each B) This was 15 minutes after opening, and the TP was already stripped bare.
Get home about 7:30AM, and practically scuttle through the hall to my apartment not wanting to meet anyone seeing I had toilet paper (a neighbor had already accused my mother of hoarding on the "reasoning" that I live below a HyVee cashier who would give inside info as to when toilet paper was in stock there.. nuts).
I take a nap and go over to mom's apartment with the TP in a black bag so anyone I passed on the way wouldn't see what it was (Paranoid? Damn right.) I say, "Happy birthday", pull out the TP and give it to her saying "If they're going to accuse you of hoarding toilet paper you may as well be guilty of it" B)
She laughed for a second and then burst into tears. For 6 rolls of Quilted Northern. She hadn't run out yet but apparently it had been close at times and she was using napkins as well to stretch it out.
F$&#@*g hoarding bastards. Stressed out my mother to the point of bawling over $7 of toilet paper.
Yeah toilet paper is insane. It is the only thing I ain't got yet. So we are really counting stock now. Got several boxes of Kleenex in reserve.
I've been able with some added effort however, get all that is required to keep my family fed and some extra. I will even admit to doing some soft hoarding. Stuff I don't need now but it was there so... What I've heard and witnessed makes me feel way less guilty.
The big problem is I have to go after doing my 8 hrs. Go to as you see in the pictures some pretty bare shelves. I got what I could. Just had to dig deeper. So I had to hit it 1st thing Saturday morning. Hit dollor store and got the dry goods and pasta. Then the grocery store again after. Either got lucky timing or who knows. But I got stocked. Yesterday I got some nice fresh produce from a stand. They closed the farmers market I usually go to on the weekends.
I don't understand the total panic aspect of this but it is hard to not get caught up in it when you know you got people to feed yourself and them hoarders are showing no signs of slowing.

I know we're all getting beaten-down with a torrent of bad news...As our surgeon general said Monday, prepare for a very bad week.
We're going to get to the other side of the peak one of these days, I hope we don't lose to many people in the process and our economy can recover swiftly.

thats a double edged sword, those that are taking it seriously, absolutely need to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.... to those that are going on with their lives like nothing is happening they will read that and find confirmation that this is nothing more than the common flu and will be even less likely to conform to social distancing and other precaution activities. Our 2 small town bars are still doing a bustling business and will likely get busier since the larger town 20 minutes away just shut down their bars and restaurants.

Too many in this country are not taking it seriously. Probably was the case in Britain too - where Boris said F-it, we have to shut down or become the next Italy or Spain.People need clear, concise messaging and leadership from Govt. Or they start ingesting fish tank cleaner and believing they're going back to work in 12 days.
