Wow....

Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.

What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

Well how bow da?
Good ol' chloroquine (aka hydroxychloroquine or Plaquenil) + good ol' azithromycin!

Both drugs relatively cheap and readily available.
Those taking Plaquenil have to be monitored for serious retinal side-effects, but that's usually
only with high dosages.

Let's hope that smallish French study ( https://www.en24.news/a/2020/03/hydroxychloroquine-would-be-effective-according-to-professor-raoult-of-the-ihu-in-marseille-after-a-first-limited-test.html)   gets confirmed with further testing.

Potentially great news Ralphie, thanks for posting!

A federal plan to tackle the coronavirus pandemic warns it 'will last 18 months or longer' and could include 'multiple waves'

A federal plan to tackle the COVID-19 coronavirus warned that the pandemic "will last 18 months or longer" and could include "multiple waves" as it continues to spread, according to The New York Times.
The 100-page plan, seen by The Times, was released Friday and was marked "For Official Use Only // Not For Public Distribution or Release."
"Shortages of products may occur, impacting health care, emergency services, and other elements of critical infrastructure," the plan reportedly said, noting this could include "potentially critical shortages" of diagnostic capabilities, medical supplies, including personal protective equipment, pharmaceuticals, and staffing in some locations.
It added that state and local governments, along with their critical infrastructure and communication channels, "will be stressed and potentially less reliable," The Times said.
"These stresses may also increase the challenges of getting updated messages and coordinating guidance to these jurisdictions directly," the plan states, according to The Times.
The plan reportedly laid out recommendations for how to curb the coronavirus' spread, including closing schools and canceling events, steps that many states and local governments have already taken

I dont ordinarily agree with Mark Cuban,  but I think he has some valid thoughts here... on the stock thing I would say no buy back at least until any aid is repaid to the govt with interest.

I do question some of the actions being taken by retailers that are cutting their store hours.   they will still see the same number of people,  but now they are forcing those people to all do their shopping in a more condensed window of time.  How is this supposed to help stop the spread of the disease?

When you have 1000 new cases a day in one city, is this really enough???

New York governor orders 75% of workforce to work from home

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered 75% of the state’s workforce to work from home.

"The numbers have gone up overnight. I am going to increase the density control today. No more than 25% of people can be in the work force," Cuomo said Thursday. "Yesterday it was 50%. We're reducing it again, except the essential services that we spoke about yesterday. That means 75% of the work force must stay at home and work from home. Again, voluntarily I'm asking all businesses to have people work from home. As a mandate, 75% of your employee base must work from home."

80% of people in Madrid will get COVID-19, official saysFrom Laura Perez Maestro

Eight out of ten people in the Spanish capital will get COVID-19, according to the president of the Region of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
“They will have mild symptoms,” she said, but added that "it will be a problem" for the vulnerable population, which is around 15% of people.
"This virus has been in Spain for a longer time and is going to spread to practically everyone, and in most, it will not leave lasting marks. But the problem is the vulnerable population," said Díaz Asuyo in an interview on Spanish radio.
She called the disease "lethal" for elderly people with pre-existing conditions, and said that in 24 or 48 hours "it can end the life of a person who is in the vulnerable population group."
As a result of this, the region of Madrid has sought to "save time," unify healthcare in the public and private sectors, and convert "normal beds into ICU beds."
Some 580 beds in these critical units are occupied, Díaz Asuyo said, and the Ministry of Health plans to facilitate "new rapid tests" to detect coronavirus this weekend.

Domino's wants to hire 10,000 employees as eating habits shift during coronavirus pandemic
Domino's Pizza is looking to hire up to 10,000 workers as people shift their eating habits to takeout or delivery amid restrictions surrounding the growing coronavirus pandemic.

The pizza chain is looking to hire for several positions in its stores and factories, including chefs, customer service representatives and managers.
"Our corporate and franchise stores want to make sure they're not only feeding people, but also providing opportunity to those looking for work at this time, especially those in the heavily impacted restaurant industry," CEO Richard Allison said in a press release.
Domino's (DPZ) stock is one of the few bright spots in the volatile stock market. Shares are up 10% Thursday and have climbed more than 7% this year.

IT would be awesome if they do find something sooner than later through therapeutics or anything else for that matter.

A vaccine is a year away most likely.
==================================

"It's been around for a long time so we know if things don't go as planned it's not going to kill anybody," Trump told reporters at the White House.

"We have to remove every barrier or a lot of barriers that were unnecessary and they've done that to get the rapid deployment of safe, effective treatments and we think we have some good answers," Trump said.

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn carefully tempered the President's remarks regarding his team's work to develop treatments for coronavirus.

"The FDA is committed to continuing to provide regulatory flexibility and guidance, but let me make one thing clear: the FDA's responsibility to the American people is to ensure that products are safe and effective," he said.
He said the FDA is expanding its work regarding potential therapeutic options.

"We need to make sure that this sea of new treatments -- we'll get the right drug to the right patient at the right dosage at the right time," he said, explaining that the right drug may be available but it may not be in the right dosage, "and that may do more harm than good."

Part of that, Hahn said, is exploring drugs that are "already approved for other indications," noting the President's remarks on chloroquine.

"That's a drug that the President has directed us to take a closer look at as to whether an expanded use approach to that could be done and to actually see if that benefits patients. And again, we want to do that in the setting of a clinical trial, a large, pragmatic clinical trial to actually gather that information," he said.

He also explained the process of convalescent plasma, which has to do with isolating blood from those who have survived the coronavirus and have the right immunoglobulins. A concentration of that could treat people infected with the virus.

As for a timeline, Hahn said, "over the next couple of weeks, we'll have more information that we're really pushing hard to try to accelerate... and that will be a bridge to other therapies that will take us three to six months to develop. And this is a continuous process -- there is no beginning and end."

He also said there is a vaccine trial currently being performed that is expected to take "12 months."Early evidence from human cells suggests that chloroquine -- which is used to treat malaria and autoimmune diseases -- may have some activity against the novel coronavirus. Doctors in China, the US and other countries have used the drug experimentally in Covid-19 patients, but there is not yet sufficient clinical evidence that it's effective in humans.

The drug, generally considered to be safe for most patients, can have side effects including seizures, nausea, vomiting, deafness, vision changes and low blood pressure.

When asked about chloroquine last month, Dr. Janet Diaz of the World Health Organization said "there is no proof that that is an effective treatment at this time. We recommend that therapeutics be tested under ethically approved clinical trials to show efficacy and safety."

At the time, she said the drugs that were being prioritized by WHO's research and development efforts were antivirals, a separate type of drug that includes remdesivir, which is also the focus of clinical trials in China and the US.

no shit!   2 weeks ago it should have been put out there that everybody has 7 days to get home and all commercial airlines would be grounded.  these photos of the cattle all lined up in those terminals just screams outbreak.

Only thing I'm seeing is a ban for international travel. Not saying that won't eventually include domestic, but can't find anything about a domestic ban.

I haven't seen the national travel ban yet, but if I was a betting man...

Actually, I am a betting man!

I know everyone is all over the map on this and I'm never going to push my own lens on anyone else.

But I am concerned with the actions taken so far, history is going to tell the tale of not doing enough soon enough in North America.
