Wow....

Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.

What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

I saw where local med students who aren't quite ready to get turned loose are now helping Drs and Nurses by babysitting their children, running errands etc. for them.

For us, we're going to help local biz with take-out and while we've suspending some household services, those people need the $ and we'll continue to pay them till normalcy returns.

Thats the plan anyways.

Hunker down people...

are there any more immune system compromised people in the world than those that are getting cancer treatments?  WTF,  were is the state department of health on this one.

I know everybody is looking to the federal govt to be the ones making shit happen,  but really that shouldnt be their role,  our state and local govts are in a much better position to see what is happening locally and the fed really should just be playing the role of the one that makes the shit happen that the local govt requests or cant make happen on their own.  If those of us in rural areas waited for the fed,  we would all be dead a long time ago.  they can come in after the fact and help pay for the solutions or at least we have a direction we are working towards while the feds are looking for a globe to help them find South Dakota.

I hope somebody is able to make that stupid ass manager see the light... or somebody puts her lights out. :s

My SIL works as an RN in an elderly care facility,  as soon as the first case was discovered in SD their director set a protocal in place where every employee that had been out of state recently was furloughed and ordered to quarantine for 2 weeks before they could return to work,  and the rest of the staff was told that they would be working a minimum of 60 hour weeks until they were back to full staff or the situation allowed for less precautions.   That was proactive!

@JimmyinSD My girlfriend will be involving upper management today. She's had enough of patients as well as herself being unnecessarily put at risk.

Normally I'd agree about the state vs. federal interaction, but this is a pandemic. This isn't recreational marijuana or gambling. Its unprecedented and we don't know how many people are affected. They should shut this shit down nation-wide and flatten the curve. There is no country in the world more mobile than the United States. The administration waited and the President at one point called it 'a hoax'. That was detrimental to getting a proper handle on this.

My son was talking to a peer this weekend and the other kid was down playing the risk and said there was only a 3% chance that he could catch it... my sons response was

"if I put a bag of 100 skittles on the bar and told you that 3 of them would kill you,   I bet you wouldnt fucking touch that bad of skittles"   I laughed pretty good at that one.

lets keep politics out of this,  we both know that pissing and moaning will just lead to tit for tat and the end of this thread or some of those in it.

but i still say that state and local govts are better equipped than the feds to handle most issues.  maybe its because I live in an area that sees very little federal presence.   The feds should be making sure that the states are taking the proper action and to provide any resources they can,  but really I think local management is the best case.   trust me when the feds come to rural america it typically ends up being a fucking shit show of waste and chaos (no matter who is in charge in DC).  I can see where they could play a more beneficial role in  major population centers though.

I am at the point of where I was given the directive of writing a most vulnerable list for my clients. Where to start I have elderly clients. I have people with compromised immune systems. People with HIV/AIDS and cancer. A young woman with AIDS called me crying because someone stole her masks and gloves. What the actual fuck? I managed to get some replacements but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. I am in awe of her strength and spirit in the midst of such adversity. She is also in a wheelchair.

I have clients in wheelchairs, clients with dementia and 3/4 of my caseload includes mental health. I am thinking they are all vulnerable in some way. I have been making calls to check in on clients. I am making sure their services are still in place. There are so many agencies that are closing or limiting exposure. I have clients that are receiving visits from workers through Skype and other technology just to try to keep connections. I am using Google voice myself because I am working from home. It's amazing the trickle down effect. I also have a large number of clients who don't speak English. I am using my Spanish as needed but the interpreter agencies we work with are incredible for my other clients. Being asked to list people this way hit me kind of hard. I guess I just needed to process it in order to focus.

I know there are a lot of concerns about putting money in peoples hands,  but why not get all the lending institutions holding home loans for the lower to middle class to waive payments for a month or two?  This coupled with utilities not requiring payments for 2 months and then giving the user 12 months to come current on those 2 months should significantly relieve a lot of stress for those living pay check to pay check no?

the financial institutions owe the fed for bailing their asses out 12 years ago so they shouldnt have a choice in the matter and considering all the federal dollars and gifts that have gone to utility companies.... they should be ok with a couple months of sharing the burden as well.

simply sending checks out to people... i know something has to be done,  but I question that approach but I am not very read up on the criteria or how the money is being distributed.  I think I would rather see some way of making sure it goes towards essential needs and to try and keep fraud and waste to a minimum.

Agree lets keep it civil and no politics.  Save the disagreements on fed/state for later.  As I sit at home its calming to be reading the banter from my brothers (and sisters) of other mothers.

i was hoping the roles of the levels of govt wouldnt devolve into team red vs team blue,  but if that would upset the intended nature of this board... I am fine with that request, especially with all the trauma that has been created lately with the Diggs trade everybody is on edge.

Just to be clear. Clinic managers are not health care providers. They are bean counters. The bottom line is what counts to them. Unfortunately medicine has mostly become a business. Thank God most providers still care about their patients as is being demonstrated in this time of great risk to them and their families.

bean counters should be accounting for risk and potential liability exposures,  if my loved one lost their life because somebody didnt take the widely announced and medically supported precautions to protect their health... I would certainly be talking to a lawyer and that is not good for anybody's bottom line.
