Wow....

Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.

What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

Hmmm...

Explains some "facts" a few people at work were trying to push.

What a world, what a world.

You WORK with people like that? People like that have jobs?

Hey, if a country the size of Germany could support a brutal fascist regime, is anything really ever surprising again???

Um... uh-oh?  Even if "only" 15%, still not good.

This virus may not be a one and done thing, there is a lot of unknown long term effects. Not a biologist but have a number of family members who are and listening to them isolating is about the best you can do.  With our testing we barely have a clue who has it, especially asymptomatic, let alone doing MRI's on those general populations.  Wonder how this will play out with the uncertainty of how preexisting conditions will be treated soon.  The economic impact will be felt for years unless we get something right

Likelihood US will have Covid-19 vaccine available this year is "extremely low," former FDA head saysIt's unlikely the United States will have a Covid-19 vaccine available for widespread use this year, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, said on CBS' Face the Nation on Sunday.
"The likelihood that we're going to have a vaccine for widespread use in 2020 is extremely low. I think we need to think of that as largely a 2021 event, and if we do have a vaccine available in 2020, it's likely to be used in a much more targeted fashion – almost in a therapeutic sense, to protect very high-risk populations," Gottlieb told CBS anchor John Dickerson."In terms of thinking about the vaccine, at least as far as this year is concerned – in 2020, the fall and the winter – I think that if there is a vaccine made available, it's likely to be a very staged introduction of the vaccine under an emergency use authorization, where there's going to be a lot of data collection around the use of that vaccine," Gottlieb said. "And it's just going to be very select groups of people who are either at very high risk of contracting the coronavirus because of what they do. For example, health care workers, or very high risk of a bad outcome – think of people for example in a nursing home," Gottlieb said. "So you can almost think of the vaccine being used in a therapeutic sense to try to protect very high-risk populations, and not in a way we traditionally think about a vaccine in terms of trying to provide broad-based immunity in a population and really quell an epidemic."

My son came home from college for labor day weekend and just tested positive.  All his roommates have also been tested because they all don't feel well.  With everyone coming back to colleges from all over the Country and living in small (expensive $$$ :) apartments I don't see this going too well.  Then you add my wife is a 4th grade teacher and all hell is breaking out in my household.  We are scheduled to be tested today at 2 pm.  We are in PA.

Yikes, minny. That is a lot going on in your family, hope everything turns out just fine (I'm sure it will).

Yep, the kids going to school and college and then coming home are going to cause a huge spike.

I am sorry to hear that. Hoping for the best. Be well and take care of you and yours. The extra travel is going to complicate things. Is your wife teaching at the school or remotely or a combination?

My wife's school district was having the teachers report to school and live stream to the students so combination.  She is really upset not just because of Covid but she needs to be in the school to learn how to better do the remote learning as a group of teachers.  It is no easy task to have to put a whole lesson plan together and then be able to project to the students at home without having multiple glitches everyday.  Our schools are not equipped to do this well right now.  Also the majority of teachers (and board members) are not tech savvy.  Then you add all the households that you provide Chrome Books too and how are they going to know what to do?

She literally just said she is getting text after text from parents asking tech questions that she doesn't know because the teachers are on school lap tops not the chrome books - so disconnect right there.  She is calling the principle and asking that they hire a tech person to field all the parents questions.

Most people don't learn too well remotely so I feel bad for the kids especially at younger ages.  What a cluster!

So many things are complicating the technology aspect of this mess. I know that some buses are being used as hot spots for students that don't have internet access. I know some colleges are allowing people to park in the lot to use their Wi-Fi. The teachers have to be overwhelmed with the shift in the lesson plan and students are having to adjust as well. It is definitely challenging and there needs to be more support in order to improve the situation.

Sorry to hear, Minny. But for the grace of God (and perhaps a lot of luck) go all of us. Hoping the best for your family.

Update:

My son is not that sick.  it started with aches in his joint and a low grade fever for about 2 days.  I noticed a small rash under his one eye which was weird but that didn't last too long.  He also said he couldn't really smell anything.

My wife and I tested negative.  My wife has to wait 14 days before she can go back into school and teach virtually from there.  So for the next two weeks she will be doing it from home.

So we are back to Covid-normal.
