OT: Coronavirus
Wow....
Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.
What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

Well, for these 17 who'll not be returning to class till 21, I hope the 2 hours of mingling and flirting were worth it. I'm sure that was a fun discussion with the parents :p
17 St. Olaf students suspended after attending off-campus partySuch "reckless behavior ... must stop," the college's president said.
Seventeen students at St. Olaf College in Northfield have been suspended for the fall semester after attending an off-campus party where masks were not worn and at least one student present was already infected with COVID-19, the school announced Thursday.
“This is the kind of reckless behavior that will put an end to our in-person semester, and it must stop,” St. Olaf President David Anderson said.
Fifty students need to quarantine due to a lack of social distancing. Much of the quarantine is needed because of the off-campus party, which was held last week before students moved into campus housing, Anderson said.
School officials learned that people congregated at the party and did not practice social distancing. “The predictable results ensued,” Anderson said.
Several students were exposed to COVID-19 at the party by another who was infected. Others in attendance “exposed innocent students” such as their roommates, Anderson said.
The incident occurred as colleges and universities statewide try to prepare for fall classes with varying degrees of restrictions and distancing.
Students will need to hold one another accountable for such behavior to complete the full semester in person, Anderson said.
He urged them to wear masks, socially distance, monitor symptoms and honor a public health pledge they signed before arriving on campus.
“It is now up to all of us to act safely and to look out for each other’s health,” Anderson said.

These small rural colleges are a great place to get a start, I had two kids do their undergrad at some in central IA and they can isolate really easy. One of them didn't enforce underage drinking laws, just to keep the kids on campus and out of the bars and safer. Socializing was part of their education, school was up front about it and I have no complaints about the results.

I don't want to speak too soon and jinx it, but the NFL seems to be providing a fairly successful model for colleges, teams, businesses and anyone else who wants to move forward with business as usual without a rash of outbreaks.
Now, I know not everyone has the money and resources the NFL has, and controlling the behavior of college students is going to be damn near impossible, but the path forward has been mapped out (daily testing, mask-wearing and distancing) if they're simply willing and capable of following it and enforcing it.

Its too bad schools don't have that same kinda $$$...We've seen a lot of them close a lot of activities cause the cost to test is just too prohibitive.
The achilles heel for the NFL will be 20 somethings heading out to clubs etc...Cause that's what they do and what we did back then too.
Anyone notice whats going on in Iowa. Hawkeyes just suspended all fall athletic activities, Cyclones just announced a 25K limit on football crowds. Story county, ISU, is the highest rate in the nation
