Blake Bortles and why its hard to change mechanics
Posted by: StickyBun - 08-18-2017, 12:04 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (6)

Watched the preseason game last night between Tampa Bay and Jacksonville: Bortles was brutal. The coaches have worked with him to change his throwing mechanics and its messing with his head. He had wide open guys that he can't hit consistently now. He looked tentative, lacking in confidence. Marrone said the starting job is wide open between he and Chad Henne. Yuck.

Whenever I hear a staff mention they are working on changing throwing motions or mechanics for a QB, it so rarely works out. Under pressure or stress, they'll revert to what they've done the majority of their career. The media, both local and national, are questioning why there hasn't been more of a true QB competition before last night's shit show.

What a difference a year makes

I've said it before, but it is almost stunning how little excitement there is so far for the 2017 season.  I know the first preseason game was dull, and we never play many in that game.  But, last season, we were talking Super Bowl coming out of camp.

And it is not even in just Minnesota, I live in Dallas, and besides the suspension of Ezekiel Elliot, there is little buzz on a team that is sure to be playoff bound, even without Elliott.

So, what's up? Has America been saturated and even burned out with too much football coverage?  Or, is it just the last days of summer?

  Boone Injury Opens a Door?
Posted by: mgobluevikes - 08-16-2017, 03:25 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (33)

Of all the O-line losses we could afford, I honestly think Boone would be the least likely to hurt us badly. Whoever winds up being our backup Center is probably better suited to be our starting left Guard over Boone.

As much as I like Elflein at the Center position, he might actually be better at guard. From all indications, he has really great footwork, pulls really well, is very sound technically, and if he can play center, he isn't stupid. Add to that, I think his arm length height is betted suited to guard than Boone. I'm not sure if Easton is as athletic as Elflein, but has a little more experience in the system, so maybe it makes sense to give him the nod making the line calls this year.

Boone has been sliding for at least 3 years, and if he may have just got injured out of a job if somebody shines this week.

OT: Daniel Craig back as Bond, James Bond...
Posted by: purplefaithful - 08-16-2017, 10:56 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (10)

My 2nd favorite Bond...

Daniel Craig confirms return as James BondThe actor, who was a guest on Tuesday night's "Late Show," confirmed to host Stephen Colbert that he will return to the role as the super spy in the upcoming, and yet untitled, 25th Bond film.
"Now, you've been reported to play the role of James Bond again," Colbert said to Craig, who said he has been pretty coy about if he would return. "We could use some good news here. Daniel Craig, will you return as James Bond?"
"Yes," Craig responded with a smile.
This led the audience to cheer and Colbert to get up from his chair and shake Craig's hand.

Daniel House does a good job reviewing several areas and players.  I enjoy the article and he seems to balance the preseason game with plenty of knowledge from training camp.  That really bolsters a great breakdown with some depth.

  Laquon Treadwell Updates?

I saw that he returned to practice Saturday here: https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/footba...-practice/

Any word how he's doing, and do we expect to see him play this week?  We've all heard good things about him so far this pre-season, so I was actually looking for him last game before I heard he wasn't playing.  It'd be great to have him healthy and see some action.
