OK,  Now that camp is behind us its really time to get cranking on this thing.  We are targeting the Tampa Bay game on Sunday September 24th for our annual goings on.  We are once again hoping to do some sort of Saturday gathering as well as a tailgate before the game....during the game.... and maybe after the game as well ( watch out for the cracks in the asphalt...they can be a real challenge)  for those that dont know... typically there are a few that dont have tickets to the game, but want to hang out anyway so we get a TV set up in the parking lot with the game feed going on it for those outside... (this is actually a pretty good time as you can really get to know your brethren and the beers is much much cheaper)

So before we set anything in stone,  who would be planning on joining us?  Please note "Saturday",  "Sunday", or "Both" in your responses as well as how many would be in your group if it will be more than just yourself.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

We also need to secure a tailgating spot. Rumor has it that many of the spots that used to be available are now no longer there for tailgating.

It seems that the Vikings and/or the city is squashing tailgating as we have come to know it. So if you know someone that has a tailgating pass that might be able to let us use it let us know.

Saturday (the 23rd) is possible, but until where and when is settled I couldn't call it a plan.  There would be two of us

As of right now I am on board for the Bucs game with the wife and kids, 5 total.  Probably just watch the game with those hanging out in the parking lot.

talking with a season ticket holder yesterday he confirmed that due to some new construction that 1 or 2 of the tailgate lots will not be available this year.  we may have to rethink how we do this unless somebody has some better information ( he couldnt remember where he read it as it does not apply to his parking situation since his club seats have their own parking location, but he did say that there was definitely going to be a lot less tailgating spots)

Not sure if anybody else has anymore to add to this or not,  but until we find a tailgate approved location this might deflate the get together,  at least at the stadium.

Any other ideas?

I had thought about just renting a hotel party room if a big enough group wanted to get together and watch the game together or something like that.  if we found one close enough to downtown or the light rail, some could still attend the game if they had tickets.

I was led to believe that the only tailgating approved lots were the 3 right north of the stadium,  however I found this map online that says that any lots inside the yellow ring are approved for tailgating.   Can anybody else find information on this?  EDIT: apparently this is legit as I found the map on the US bank stadium site as well.  so anybody have any access to these other lots?

The Bucs game is my birthday so they better win. I got an email about changes to tailgating so I will have to look it over again. There was also a thread from the VF newsfeed that had some info as well.

if you could pass along what you find that would be great.  I tried looking through the archives on the team site as well as the norseman site and didnt see anything in the titles so it must be a foot note to some other story.

I don't know that I would trust anything to be up to date on Vikings.com....

Check out their twitter list of players and coaches.....

Hi folks - I still stop by as the best training camp info is always here. I can share some information on what's up with tailgating.
It's true that about 325 tailgating spots are gone. Since there weren't that many to begin with, this is a pretty substantial loss. The map posted by Jimmy shows last year's lots. The Touchdown (largest lot) and Kickoff lots are now gone due to new construction. Tailgaters who bought in those lots last year have been told that they can use Lot 53. However, Lot 53 is first come, first serve. As you can imagine, there are some unhappy people. Some put a lot of effort into tailgating so not knowing if you're even going to have a spot is not cool.
Mike or Jimmy - let's talk about your get together. I already renewed my spot in the purple lot. Since the Bucs game is just the second home game, I'd planned on using it. But I tailgate with a group and we have 2 other spots. So just *maybe* we can work something out. No certainties as I'd need to figure out some logistics.
Take care all.

Edited again because I don't know about any tailgating lots other than what has been communicated by the Vikings (Purple, Gold, Quarterback and Lot 53)

Definitely have missed your 2 cents sister.  Please come around more often, and thaNK you for the information.

I have to admit that my appreciation for the Wilfs is waning at the moment.

Yah, I have some friends who live in a condo in East Mpls, and there is so much construction now its unbelievable. Condo's, apartments, Trader Joes going in etc...

Only took 40 years for revitalization to hit and all it took was a few tweaks to some zoning too lol!

So yah, spots are drying-up fast, there will be fewer even tomorrow. That land is just too valuable for parking lots now.

Well this sucks but based on the responses thus far its not looking like it would be worth the effort anyway.

Well crap, this is a bummer.  There will be four in my group,... Any tailgating in the light rail parking lots?  Like have a get together a stop or two away and just jump on the train to get to the stadium.  Probably not legal or feasible... just a thought that popped in...

I was thinking about the same thing.  Pretty sure it would be squashed.  I remember a few years ago some of us from PT were gonna get together at a park north of the dome and the cops ran the first guys out of there right away.

We still need to set a date that will work for as many as possible so if anybody is considering one of these please let your preferences be known.

I had a blast last year.  I know for sure that I won't be able to make the  Bucs or Lions games.

I might be able to make the Packers game (if there are tickets available)...  and one of my good buddies would likely go with me, but he's a Packer fan.  Bring some duct tape and rotten tomatoes...  We can tie him up to a pole and take turns pelting him with rotten vegetables.

Don't plan around me, but if you pick the Packers game, I'd make a point of coming for sure.  Even if I couldn't get tixs, I'd come just to tailgate and watch it in the lot on TV.

Keep me posted.

I wish I could make the Bucs game, but I am coming up for the next game against the Lions the following week.  Traveling by car from VA, stopping along the way to meet with friends and see some sites.  If there is a tailgate of any kind on that Sunday, please let me know.  My friend and leader of our Northern VA Vikings Fan Club is flying in as well and we will be going to the game, and perhaps the Twins game on Saturday.  I have never driven past Shitcago before and I am looking forward to seeing some new territory.  SKOL!
