OT: Coronavirus
Wow....
Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.
What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

sounds pretty much spot on. kids will get it and for the vast majority they will go home and in a short time be over it without ever needing hospitalization. i would say its stating the obvious if you look at the numbers.

They're going to go home, get over it (if their symptomatic at all) and all the while infect parents, grandparents, uncles, older teachers, 58 year old neighbor Jim, aunt bea...That said, I get the kids gotta go back to school cause distance learning sounded like it was a s hit show. I dont know what the answer is, I aint that smart.
All I know is I really feel for these young families, college kids, teachers and professors. It's a brutally tough thing to solve.

Of course nothing wrong with it and "spot on" when the full picture (I must state as often done here) is not painted. When the kids take it home what happens to the elders that live with them? You know, like parents? Seems to me like you dont see any issue with the possibility of thrusting kids as a vehicle to spread COVID-19.
Anyway, maybe, you can't get COVID-19 from a kid so I stand corrected.

Oh I agree, but like you said, what is the alternative? I would suggest keeping the kids and parents away from the grandparents and other high risk people? I know it's not ideal, but we cant stop living completely until somebody may or may not come up with a treatment.

Or the world could stop spinning, is that what you would prefer? Parents can quit going work so they can stay home with their kids and conduct their education, companies can close their doors again because they have no workers, we can all stay home and live off what exactly?

You're right, fuck it. Let's throw in the towel now.

Their reopening actions were based on the results of their control actions, not ignoring the science and opening in spite of the situation. This is a US thing, not a world, we screwed the pooch, kinda the Cleveland Brown, approach to winning.

I think you still are missing the point. EVERYONE wants everything back to normal. The issue is "some people" cant even adhere to the basic steps to try and manage this. Things like..If these were done it would be easier to talk about re-opening schools.
- Wear masks
- Avoid large gatherings
- Improve testing
- Make testing available and turn around for results faster
- Do more testing
Right now what you are advocating is, lets just open the schools because we have to. That I am sorry is a very weak argument.
There were "baby" steps we could have taken to make this easier but again, we chose not to and engaged in falsehoods, alternative facts and blame game.

You're right, fuck it. Let's throw in the towel now.I suppose if your not up to the task, that would be a way to look at it. I do what I need to and don't look at it as a inconvenience, just whats needed to get through this. After all this is America, I need a can do attitude, when the going gets tough..., remember "America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere". Now look how we compare to the rest of the world. "Give me profit or give me death, we are a market not a great society".
There is no reason why states or even parts of large states, that arent showing a surge cant reopen their schools. People kept using major chain stores all through this, many of them took their kids to those stores and there were elderly present. Life wont be like pre covid, but kids need to be in school and precautions will need to be taken for those in the high risk group. Its absurd to think not getting the kids back in school wont have negative affects on parents and jobs just like a potential outbreak could cause in areas.

So in other words, status quo is okay with you, lets just wait and see. This is just an economic problem and biology is not in control. How would you deal with HMD if it was running rapid in over half the country? Why do kids need to be in school, shouldn't the question be, how do we give kids an education in time's like these, you know life isn't "pre corona".

So in other words you would do nothing, you would curl up and wait for a vaccine that may or may not be coming anytime soon and will have unknown success. Let businesses fail, let families lose their homes, etc etc., because a small % of the population is at risk. There has to be a new norm, back to school but with precautions and only in areas that aren't seeing huge issues.
You are really good at shooting others thought down, what's your solution to educate the kids, and keep families fed and housed without risking increased exposure potential?
It's confusing you flaunted your families levels of education in a past thread but then now downplay the need for kids to be in school. Home education was a massive fail last spring, how do you propose to improve it so it's a viable alternative to in classroom learning? And who is staying home with the kids, I've heard for years how many families cant survive on one income? Or will your plan be providing in home supervision as well?
Lock down and stop the spread, once things are controlled, then proceed with opening up as biology allows. That's the name of the game, that's why every other country is ahead of us on this thing, we didn't do that. School is a building an education is totally different thing, what so hard about that concept, it's not complex. I'm not an educator, but I will listen to what they have to say. You act like sending them to school then, after a few weeks change things up is going to be better than other alternatives. Teaching pod's where students are isolated and the teachers go to them is one solution. You think in a binary box, where do you get me advocating doing nothing, lock downs, where breakouts were occurring, would have gotten things in running sooner than the status quo. Another big change I would advocate is getting people concerned about the public welfare vs showing up fully armed grandstanding about oppression when they are asked to do the right thing. Love how all the 2nd amendment folk are keeping their thumbs warm while the Fed secret police are oppressing 1 st amendment, totally ignorant to the fact they will be next.

I listened to educators call into a radio talk show talking for hours a few weeks ago about all the reasons teaching pods wont work, just doesnt sound viable according to the professionals that took the opportunity to share their views.
The rest of your response really has nothing to do with getting kids educations and will only cause this thread to derail or turn political so another time maybe.

except for the fact they might infect parents grandparents etc who won't possibly get just the sniffles---other than that all good.

Radio call in experts now that's a real source of authority, but suppose if that's the best you got. Best of luck, you got this, "it's gonna get worse before it get better", have that from a real expert, an expert like no one has ever seen before.
What is your point, by the way, educate kids or get parents back to work?
