Wow....

Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.

What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

You can't make this stuff up. When others were advising that it was too early to open they were called names and oh "we have to reopen the economy".
I am waiting for our all knowing president to tell us what party the governors of these states are from. The stupidity and lies of this administration knows no bounds.

Of course these are red states...But wr gotta keep the politics out of this thread the best we can...I'm guilty of it too.

Just trying to help Jimmy out a bit here  ;)

@"MaroonBells" said: How is your state doing? Pretty interesting...most states now show a definitive curve that has flattened. But look at Texas, Florida, MIssissippi and Arizona.

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/new-cases-50-states

We had to re-open the economy, but some of those states really dialed it back too much at the wrong time - when key metrics were still going the wrong way.

They're paying the price now.

600 people a day are dying from Covid-19 in the US. Down from the peak of 2200 a day, but that's a daunting #, a sad one.

Headlines here are 4 bars in Mpls and in Mankato are responsible for some major spreads. Kids going out getting drunk and carefree. Probably getting laid too - god bless em.

Personally I think local govt's need to carry a big stick against these establishments for blatantly breaking the rules.

The insidious thing about Covid is you're not putting just yourself at risk being young and dumb, but everyone around you could be in trouble.

Like everyone (anyone who has the ability to think independently) did not see this coming. There were calls from people that we did not have structures in place to enable the safety measures... you know like laws and consequences. But you know what? Guidances will do just fine and the states will take care of it they said. The president just passed the buck like he always does. It's a pandemic and we need leadership but nope. We would rather talk about lies and nonsense that he thinks threatens his support.
Also, Trump and his cronies never thought the numbers were going the wrong way. They lied about that everyday so they could reopen the economy.

Feds left it up to the States, I'm not sure legally they could re-open the country and dictate down - nor would they want the responsibility or blame that could come with that (especially in an election year)

I dont know what our good friends in FL and TX think about how well they've been managed (or not) state wise?

Here in MN, I'd give Waltz and "A" for mgmnt of a Pandemic. I'm sure there are plenty of MN's who would disagree, such is the nature of the beast.

And I'm not afraid to give big "F's" to Dems either. Ask me what I think about how Frey handled the early days and hours after Gorge Floyd was murdered?

Or whether I agree with the zanies on the Mpls Council on many things...

Europe will bar Americans traveling from the US European Union officials confirmed on Friday that the EU would bar American travelers when it reopens its external borders on July 1, The New York Times reported.
The US is among dozens of countries deemed too risky because their coronavirus outbreaks are poorly contained, according to The Times.
Travelers from more than 12 countries outside the bloc will, however, be allowed to enter starting July 1. The full list of safe countries includes Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay, Andorra, San Marino, Monaco, and the Vatican, according to The Times.
China will also be included, as long as China allows European Union visitors.
The list has been finalized and will be released officially next week, The Times reported. Reports of the list emerged earlier this week.
According to The Times, the list has been backed by most countries' EU ambassadors but still must be formalized by member states and the central EU government.
While member states will not be legally required to abide by the list, those that do not could see other EU states close their borders to them, which would inhibit their participation in the EU's recovering economy.
Some countries with economies that are especially dependent on tourism are expected to allow more foreigners by implementing health-screening protocols for arriving visitors.
Exceptions will be granted for essential workers, including healthcare workers and diplomats, as well as students, asylum seekers, and others, The Times reported.
The inclusion of the US on the list of banned countries represents a major blow to America's image on the global stage and undermines the Trump administration's claims that the US outbreak is under control. The US has recorded more than 2.4 million coronavirus cases and 124,000 deaths, more than any other country.
In early March, the Trump administration banned travel to the US from much of Europe, citing outbreaks in Italy, Germany, and elsewhere in the EU. The prohibition has not been lifted, even though Europe has largely contained its outbreaks.
The European border closure, which came later in March, applied to visitors from most countries outside the bloc, not specifically Americans.
The safe list will be reviewed every two weeks and include countries with rates of new cases that are the same or lower than the EU's. The primary benchmark is the EU's average number of new infections per 100,000 people over the past two weeks. For the EU, that number is 16. For the US, it's 107.
Other criteria for inclusion on the list include the credibility of a country's public-health reporting.
Prohibiting American travelers will have significant consequences for the EU. Millions of US tourists visit countries in the bloc each year. As travel demand recovers and Americans seek to venture abroad again — and as economies normally reliant on tourism seek to curb the fallout from the pandemic — the exclusion of a large and lucrative group of tourists could be damaging.
Similarly, European leisure travelers spend millions in the US each year. The US could leave its ban on travel from Europe in place as retaliation.

This is some funny irony especially when you look at the "safe countries". I don't blame them. Maybe that will make some people wake up.

Yeah my daughter and son in-law were planning on coming mid July from Germany, don't think that's gonna happen.  Totally different mind set over there,  she sent pictures of a party they went to, like three or four couples, each had their own food and drink tables, every thing planned to be safe and a lot of fun.

But they turned it around (or at least are on that trajectory and seeing positive results). Case in point South Korea. They had their first case on same day with US but the USA is not on that list because "their   coronavirus outbreak is poorly contained".

Just heard from my daughter, American airline just announced a change in their policy, not sure if it just international, they are now booking 100% flight capacity.  Delta is maintaining 60% capacity till September. What the market will bear, I guess.

Twins coaches Bob McClure, 68, and Bill Evers, 66, sidelined for seasonThe team is taking precautions because of the COVID-19 epidemic.Citing health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Twins will not allow bullpen coach Bob McClure and major league coach Bill Evers to work games this year, according to a source with knowledge of the decisions.

Pete Maki, the minor league pitching coordinator, is in line to step in as the new bullpen coach, while Evers’ role is expected to be filled in the near future.
The decision came after the Twins examined the health histories of their staff members, taking age and any existing conditions into account.
McClure, 68, was entering his first season as bullpen coach, replacing Jeremy Hefner, who was hired as the Mets pitching coach. McClure, who spent the previous two seasons as the organization’s senior adviser to pitching development, has twin 8-year-old sons.
Evers, 66, was entering his second season as a major league coach after spending 23 seasons with the Rays organization, the last two as minor league field coordinator. He was Joe Maddon’s bench coach in 2006 and 2007 while Twins manager Rocco Baldelli played for the Rays.
Both McClure and Evers will remain on the payroll, possibly contributing in some advisory capacity

Dimwits and idiots abound in this country. I'm always surprised just how dumb people can be. The anger some have towards others wearing a mask is obscene. Ignorant red asses.

who gives a shit if somebody is wearing a mask?  I havent seen that, but I have seen people that think the distancing rules dont apply to them because they are wearing a mask.  personally I question the effectiveness of the mask wearing in terms of really limiting the spread,  since people are constantly fucking with their masks or dont have them covering their nose and mouth sufficiently to stop the spread.  I think the mask give a false sense of safety/security to some when it really shouldnt.

hell some of the "masks" that we have seen are so poorly constructed or made of materials that dont stop shit that its really hard to take some wearers serious.  I do like how the fashion people are getting in on the "designer" masks some of them are pretty stylish, even if they arent really preventing much.

I'm going to keep red vs blue lens out of my comment...To me its a matter of caring, courtesy and decency towards your fellow human being - or not.

If you're in a store, walgreens, 7-11 buying your lotto tix? Wear a f ing mask for everyone elses sake.

Human beings can really suck at times...

Yep, if you can't do it right, don't even try.  We should just wait and see if the masks are gonna work.
