  Can't help but wonder....
Posted by: purplefaithful - 09-14-2017, 01:44 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (20)

I know it's super early in the season, but if the current trajectory hold,  Kendrick's may end up being our best lb'er, not Barr?

Heck, maybe most believe that already???

I still have hope Barr can get back to being the playmaker, game-changer with an elite ceiling...Kendricks has been awful impressive and had a good season opener too.

Vikings barely move up power rankings despite huge Week 1 win
Posted by: purplefaithful - 09-14-2017, 12:39 AM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

Despite a huge 29-19 home win over the New Orleans Saints in the team’s season opener, the Minnesota Vikings barely moved in USA TODAY’s recent power rankings.
The Vikings started the season as the No. 17 team and even with the double-digit point win, Minnesota slid up to just 15.

To round out the NFC North, the Packers are No. 2, the Lions are No. 13 and the Bears are No. 24.

Despite big Week 1 win, Vikings are big underdogs vs. Steelers
Posted by: purplefaithful - 09-14-2017, 12:35 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (22)

Despite the Vikings beating the Saints 29-19 (the score makes that seem closer than it was), Minnesota is expected to fall in Week 2.
According to Bovada sports, the Vikings are six-point underdogs to the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
This comes a bit as a surprise considering A.) the Vikings looked pretty darn good against the Saints on both sides of the ball in Week 1. And B.) The Steelers did not particularly look great in a 21-18 win over the Browns in Cleveland.
Early season trends and spreads are tough to gage for gamblers and Vegas, since we don’t know which teams are pretenders and contenders yet. Remember last season when the Vikings started 5-0 and ended it 3-8?
This is awkward.
The Vikings who follow the spreads probably have a little bit of a chip on their shoulder heading into this one.
To round out the NFC North, the Bears are seven-point underdogs in Tampa Bay and the Packers are three-point underdogs in Atlanta. No lines have been set for the Lions’ Monday Night Football matchup on the road against the Giants.

Is Vikings’ Sam Bradford ready to be an elite NFL QB?
Posted by: purplefaithful - 09-14-2017, 12:32 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (16)

The last time a Vikings quarterback was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week, the season went pretty well.
That was in 2009, when Brett Favre won the award twice, and the Vikings made it to the NFC championship game.
Sam Bradford picked up the honor Wednesday for his lights-out performance in Monday night’s 29-19 season-opening victory over New Orleans at U.S. Bank Stadium. Bradford completed 27 of 32 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns and a career-high passer rating of 143.0.
“Obviously, it’s cool,” Bradford said. “I think if you get named that, you played well and helped your team win.” Bradford’s Game 1 performance leads many to wonder whether he finally can reach expectations that have been heaped upon him.

Next up for Vikings’ Xavier Rhodes: Steelers’ Antonio Brown, his hometown buddy
Posted by: purplefaithful - 09-14-2017, 12:29 AM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

South Florida pride will be on the line Sunday when Xavier Rhodes faces off against Antonio Brown.
The Vikings cornerback and Pittsburgh Steelers receiver are Miami natives who attended the same high school and train together in the offseason.
“This will be more of a hometown (matchup),” Rhodes said. “We grew up in the same neighborhood. … It’s more going to be like a brotherly type thing.”
Rhodes and Brown are among the best at their positions in the NFL. Rhodes is coming off his first Pro Bowl appearance, and Brown is a five-time Pro Bowl player.
Rhodes might shadow Brown during the game at Heinz Field, as he has done before with top receivers. Rhodes said Wednesday he doesn’t know yet what the game plan will entail.

Vikings' Bradford, Shurmur have a good thing going that breaks offense wide open
Posted by: purplefaithful - 09-14-2017, 12:24 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

With 51 seconds left in the first half Monday night, Sam Bradford set up in the shotgun and stared at eight New Orleans Saints defenders crowding the line of scrimmage. Bradford looked to his right, motioned tight end Kyle Rudolph closer to right tackle Mike Remmers and told slot receiver Adam Thielen to take several steps in toward the line.
The Saints brought six defenders after Bradford, but with Rudolph and running back Dalvin Cook in to block, the Vikings had plenty of protection to give Bradford time. And when Cook's step in front of Bradford froze Saints cornerback P.J. Williams for a split-second, Bradford had a wide-open throwing lane to find Thielen over the middle for what turned into a 44-yard gain.
"When they presented that coverage, and Sam made the check, I knew I was going to have a chance to get open," Thielen said. "They brought full pressure, and it was man-to-man, one-on-one across the board."
The play turned a drive that began with the aim of running out the clock into the Vikings' second touchdown march of the quarter. And it showcased a quarterback in thorough command of an offense that's been calibrated to his strengths.
