James Declares But Won't Go Bowling

Derwin James - DB - Seminoles
FSU redshirt sophomore S Derwin James announced that he will declare for the 2018 NFL Draft.

In his Instagram post announcing the news, James also stated that he will not participate in the Independence Bowl against Southern Miss. James was a bright spot in an otherwise dreary season for the Seminoles, posting 84 tackles, 5.5 TFL, two interceptions, one sack, and one defensive touchdown. He was the only FSU player named first-team all-ACC this season. James is considered by most to be the class' top safety, just ahead of Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama). A great pre-draft process could get James into the top-five. Barring his medicals turning up something unseemly, the top-15 looks like his floor. James missed almost all of the 2016 season upon tearing cartilage in his left knee.

"Vikings end Panthers home winning streak with dominant winCHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sam Bradford threw a touchdown pass to Kyle RudolphMarcus Sherels returned a punt for a score and the Minnesota Vikings snapped the Carolina Panthers' 14-game home winning streak 22-10 on Sunday.
The Vikings (3-0) put the clamps on Cam Newton, intercepting the league's reigning MVP three times and sacking him eight times, one of those resulting in a safety by Danielle Hunter.
The eight sacks were the second-most ever against Newton."

I realize this is last year and apples to oranges yada, yada, yada but Cam was never the same after this game last year. The 8 sacks really impacted him and I have no doubt that Cam is still haunted by this game

Russian doping: IOC bans Russia from 2018 Winter Olympics

Cheatin' bastards

http://www.bbc.com/sport/winter-sports/42242007
Russia has been banned from competing at next year's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang by the International Olympic Committee.
But Russian athletes who can prove they are clean would be allowed to compete in South Korea under a neutral flag.
It follows an investigation into allegations of state-sponsored doping at the 2014 Games hosted by Russia in Sochi.
"This should draw a line under this damaging episode," the IOC said.
The decision has been widely condemned in Russia, with some politicians urging a boycott of the Games, though other officials have welcomed the chance for 'clean' athletes to take part.
IOC president Thomas Bach and his board - who made the announcement in Lausanne on Tuesday - came to the decision after reading through the findings and recommendations of a 17-month investigation headed up by the former president of Switzerland, Samuel Schmid.

If Vikings look well-prepared, it's because they are

Want to know why the 10-2 Vikings look so well-prepared and in-tune with their game plans? They are diligent workers Monday through Saturday, in the film room and on the practice field.Trae Waynes settled into his window seat in the exit row near the back of the plane. He was headed to Detroit to watch his alma mater, Michigan State, play Penn State the following day.
Waynes was technically on vacation with the Vikings on their bye week. They had nine days until they played at Washington. Coach Mike Zimmer gave his players the weekend to relax and unwind away from football.
Waynes could have slept on the plane. Or watched a movie. Or listened to music. Instead, the Vikings cornerback got out his team-issued iPad and watched video of the Washington offense, taking mental notes on receivers that he would be covering.
“This is your job,” Waynes said. “You’ve got to prepare. I just wanted to get a jump-start. Yeah, we had a lot of time off, but I wanted to come back prepared.”
That snapshot of Waynes studying on a plane at the start of his mini-vacation is symbolic of the entire Vikings locker room. Want to know why the 10-2 Vikings look so well-prepared and in-tune with their game plans? They are diligent workers Monday through Saturday, in the film room and on the practice field.

Herm Edwards gets bizarre in his debut as Arizona State HC
Posted by: StickyBun - 12-05-2017, 01:13 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (2)

I've always thought Herm Edwards was odd and a little full of his own B.S. He fancies himself quite the motivator . When I lived in KC, I got more than my fill of the dude. This is a strange presser and a very strange hire.
