Can we put natural grass in the new stadium?
Posted by: SFVikingFan - 10-02-2017, 04:21 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (33)

My brother and I were talking about this after the game.  The non-contact knee injuries this season have already taken out our franchise QB and RB.  Plus, last year I believe that I read that we suffered an NFL record number of injuries.  And the vast majority of them seem to be leg injuries.  I have to think that the new turf might have something to do with this; it just seems to be too much of a coincidence.  With all of the natural light that the new stadium gets, I think the team should look very seriously at putting in a grass field if that's at all possible.  I don't seem to remember having many injuries at all during the two years at TCF Bank Stadium, so instead the football gods cursed us in different ways with year-long suspensions and chip-shot FG misses.  Any thoughts?

  Murray Still Not 100%
Posted by: JustinTime18™ - 10-02-2017, 03:05 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (6)

Latavius Murray - RB - VikingsLatavius Murray said his ankle is still not 100 percent recovered from offseason surgery.

Murray did say he is healthy enough to play and handle a big workload. Murray's recovery from the surgery took longer than expected, so it is not a huge surprise he is still at less than full health. It is a major concern, however, with Dalvin Cook looking done for the season. Murray is still the No. 1 add in a crowded week on the wire, but he should not be expected to produce at the same level Cook was before the injury.

Vikings' Murray is now far more than a pricey insurance policy
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-02-2017, 11:28 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (3)

Vikings' Latavius Murray, in Dalvin Cook's absence, is now far more than a pricey insurance policyThe free agent will move to the forefront with Dalvin Cook out. When Latavius Murray signed a three-year, $15 million deal with the Vikings in March, he effectively ended the Adrian Peterson era in Minnesota. A month later, when rookie Dalvin Cook slid to the Vikings in the second round of the NFL draft, Murray became an expensive insurance policy.
Now the Vikings need to cash in on Murray.
“I never want to be out there at the expense of somebody being injured,” Murray said after the Vikings’ 14-7 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. “I’m disappointed and feel for [Cook].”
Cook went down on his 13th carry Sunday, dropping the ball and clutching his left knee immediately after planting it into the artificial turf. The Vikings fear Cook tore his anterior cruciate ligament, according to coach Mike Zimmer, which would end the dynamic rookie’s season before it really got going. Cook will have a magnetic resonance imaging exam Monday.
Zimmer admitted the Vikings will need to tweak the offensive approach without Cook, whose hot start — he is averaging nearly 5 yards per carry — stated his case for NFL Rookie of the Year. Cook amassed 444 yards from scrimmage before going down.

Gut-punching injuries like Cook's not foreign to Vikings...

Gut-punching injuries like Dalvin Cook's not foreign to Vikings, but that doesn't make it easier

The news on Dalvin Cook's left knee isn't promising, just the latest devastating injury for a Vikings franchise that has endured more than their fair share.
Dalvin Cook hobbled into a quiet locker room, a brace on his left knee, a set of crutches in his hands. The team feared the worst but awaited MRI results to know the extent of his injury. The mood was not optimistic.
Curses in sports don’t exist, but bad luck surely does and the Vikings continue to wade neck-deep in miserable luck.
Can anything else go wrong at this point?
Answer: Of course. It’s the Vikings. There’s always something else lurking around the corner.
The organization absorbed another haymaker to the gut Sunday when Cook planted to make a cut and immediately grabbed his left knee, dropping the football in pain.
The Vikings lost a divisional game to the Detroit Lions 14-7 after shooting themselves in the foot over and over with turnovers, miscommunications and sloppy play.
The loss became a sidebar to a larger story: Cook’s health and the concern that another franchise player suffered a serious injury.
Zimmer’s mood was grim afterward, saying the team fears Cook tore his anterior cruciate ligament, which would follow a sobering trend of negative health news.
