If Grant is there at 24 I think you have to take him. You might be able to trade down a couple of picks and snag him, but I'd really hate to lose out on him if here were available. He'd give Flores the big bad war daddy in the middle that would be reminiscent of Vince Wilfork.

BFlo has certainly been around big fatty NTs at NE. Had one when he was HC in Miami. The two years he had Reokwan Davis. Wonder if the puts Deone Walker on the watch list.

Deone Walker would definitely move the needle for me should we not get Grant. The kid from OSU, Williams, is another.

All massive NTs. I'm just not convinced Flores wants one. Since arriving, Flores has advocated for the Harrison Phillips extension (not a fatty), pursued Christian Wilkins (not a fatty), drafted Jacqueline Roy (not a fatty) and LDR (not a fatty). There were fatties on the board when those two were drafted.

I could be wrong and maybe we do draft one of these megalodons but it sure seems like he wants pass rush and versatility over size on his DL.

Interesting point. It'll be fascinating to see what they do both in the draft & FA.

In my best case scenario, the team would go and get both types for this upcoming year. Imagine a line of say, Harrison Phillips, Kenneth Grant, and a guy like Levi O. in FA. You'd make your interior line that much more stout against the run to go along with an interior disruptor. It would free up the backers to do so much more of what Flores likes to do. Not to mention we'd still have guys like Redmond, LDR, and TT as depth and developmental types.

Vikes were pretty, pretty stout against the run...I would be surprised if they went for a Jordan Davis type b4 an interior pass rusher.

That would be a Gink/Turner/JG best friend. Of course it all depends how the board falls.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

If we get a star FA CB, which I believe Justin and MB said we would, that will make our draft have a little less pressure for a CB. I like if we went that route this offseason. Takes a lot of pressure away from Kwesi in April. I kept coming away with having to take two CBs in the draft somehow. Just more flexibility. So I started to think and research my mindset of just that scenario. If we could just trade back once, it may be able to look something like this. I doubt Harmon is there at 47, but you could put Alexander or Collins in that spot as well. Higgins a guy I believe we need, and no one is really talking about that.

47. Derrick Harmon DL | Oregon

78. Quinshon Judkins RB | Ohio State

97. Denzel Burke CB | Ohio State

140. Luke Kandra IOL | Cincinnati

161. Jay Higgins LB | Iowa

Don't know much about Higgins, but I agree that many are overlooking ILB depth in the later rounds. LBs get hurt and we lost Cashman and Pace for stretches last year. Grugier-Hill came in and really hurt us. Of course this can be a cheap free agent add too, but otherwise I would definitely earmark one of our day three picks to that position.

I believe he had over 120 tackles and he is all over the field. Not sure where he will land in the draft, but I believe he would be a good fit here. Here are some tid bits on him. I watched him a few times last year. He is hard not to notice. He brings flexibility as well. He can play multiple positions if needed.

Sideline-to-sideline motor - put up gaudy tackle numbers. Routinely cleans up plays all over the field..
Textbook wrap-up tackler with minimal whiffs, serving as a reliable last line of defense against the run.
Plus coverage skills for an off-ball backer, showing the chops to hang in nickel packages at the next level.
Stout at the point of attack, consistently winning the leverage battle and stuffing inside runs with authority.
Natural field general, quarterbacking the defense and earning the trust of the coaching staff as a team captain.
High-floor prospect who brings it every snap, logging double-digit tackles in most outings during his breakout year.
Special teams ace early in his career, offering immediate four-phase value as he develops into a defensive contributor.
Football IQ off the charts, displaying uncanny anticipation and always seeming to be around the rock.

He’s a first guy off the bus type. I’ve seen him move like James Worthy in agility drills. The problem is he’s built like a power forward from the waist down. No sand in his ass. The C from NC Lampkin not only stoned him in a Senior Bowl 1v1 drill but moved him backwards.

Im locking him in a weight room on the squat rack for a year. He’s Raekwon Davis who I hated coming out and that has been justified. I’m intrigued by his movement skills, I just don’t know if he’s going to play to that size.

I've seen that description of him before, not sure who said it. I also did see Lampkin stonewall him which is a bit embarrassing when the kid is like 5'10 and 270 pounds. He does have tools, but hopefully it's not a matter of just being too tall for the position where shorter guys can just use leverage against him.

Regardless, if I see Grant at 24 I'd have a hard time saying no to taking him. I think that kid's got a bit of Dexter Lawrence to him as far as size and athletic ability.

Lampkin is my John Randle in waiting. He wrestled at 285, which would still be too light. 32” arms and nearly 11” hands. I’d make him a UDFA priority.

It could be Ivan Pace 2.0

Source: The Minnesota Vikings have a formal meeting scheduled with Florida iDL Cam Jackson in Indy.

Athletic & powerful DT had an excellent week at the Senior Bowl and is another name to become familiar with in a loaded DL class.

Another big dude - 6'6 about 340.

Walker's issue is that he plays too high which is why Lampkin had his way with him. If you can coach him to lower his pads, he might finally play up to his potential.

Interesting about Jackson. I'm much more willing to take a 2-down player like him in the middle rounds than one in the 1st.

It is a good year to need a DT and RB for sure. Just so happens that we need those two very things. Trade back into the 2nd and get another 3rd in the 60's and I think our draft can be set with 5 picks total. This is the year I don't mind so much that we have limited picks. Just come away with an impact DT and RB, while getting a CB in FA and it is a successful offseason.

If we're able to cover needs at CB and DT in free agency, I wouldn't hate this pick. But you never know what you're gonna get with a rookie (see Kenyon Green). We can't afford to miss there. Now, while that's true at every position, if we truly want to FIX the IOL, I think we need to do it in free agency with players who've proven they can play in the NFL.

In a world where we lose out on the younger IOL such as Fries, Jenkins or Becton & have to settle for the older guys such as Scherff & Zeitler, using our top pick on an IOL would be a sound strategy.

I don't see it playing out like that at all, but for shits and giggles...if that were the pick, it would be another draft day television casualty in my house
