This makes some sense to me. The org. has been very quiet about this kid.

I don't think they make the move until their trade partner is on the clock on draft night.  You don't move up before you're sure that your target is there.  Say we move up to 5 next week, then on draft night Denver can lose their marbles and use 3 1's to jump us to 4.

Word is they are in talks for number 2 with the Commanders. If that ends uo being the case, I expect it happens relatively shortly. No need to hide it since no one will be able to jump them.

Ugh, I hope not.  2 would cost 11, 23, 2025 1st and something else. Our draft would be shot until 2026,  That would be going "full Rams" to use Kwesi's own words.

No matter what happens, I'll roll with the outcome and look for the positives. Highly curious would be an understatement.

It makes sense, but damn...that leaves us with not another pick until round 4 this year and we won't have a pick until round 3 in 2025 (in which your 1st might very well be a top 5 pick). You give up that kind of haul for a quarterback, you better make damn sure he's "the guy" and that would make me nervous with any front office, much less our current decision makers.

I saw a mock draft that showed McCarthy dropping to the 11th spot for Minnesota.  I wish this was true and end up keeping both first round selections.

It's possible. Look what happened to Will Levis just last year. The Vikings are going to have to be very good with Intel and having a good idea of where teams are going with their picks. Right now information is all over the board on the quarterbacks

I don't get the QB guru label. Exactly where is this list of QB's he's developed into pro bowlers? Cousins had 1 year with him before Minnesota, wasn't developed under O'Connell, nor did he turn his career around. When O'Connell was with the Rams, he was never a QB coach. Browns, they had Manziel in rehab.

It's just weird that because he comes off as a reasonable human being, who seems to have empathy, he is a Maharishi in the eyes of the media.

He was a highly successful OC and a former QB in the league, and has brought Cousins to an entirely other level.  I would that qualifies as Start to being a guru.

Define bringing Kirk to an entirely different level. I know there are intangibles, but different level is a huge stretch. Cousins has been remarkably consistent while doing things on squads with different makeups schemes and coaches.

Remember 2021? Everyone and his brother were convinced the 49ers wanted Mac Jones in the trade up. This was the widely held belief until just a couple days before the draft.

In reality, they wanted Trey Lance. They don't make the move to 3 without knowing the Jets were going to take Zach Wilson. It's interesting to me they had that intel on March 26th of that year. Either that or they were OK with either Wilson, Lance, Jones or Fields, which seems less likely to me.

It's a fair enough argument.  It feels like particularly in 22, those stats lied quite a bit.  Kirk was money with the game on the line to a far greater extent than in the past.  Also, the Vikes running game had ground to a halt over the last two years.  But, still I think it's fair to question that part of the argument.   The first two are pretty inarguable, though, and I feel most people in the league believe him to be someone who is advanced in helping qb's get the most out of themselves.

Saleh had moved from Niner DC to Jets HC like a month prior. So he likely did the Niners a solid and told them his plans in New York.

Not sure we have such connections. Maybe if it was the Rams or something and McVay wanted to do KO a solid but I’m not seeing the link with us and the top teams this year. Unless KJ Osborne is angling for the Pats to trade us their pick and catch balls from Brissett all season long  =).

No idea what it's worth but Kwesi and Commanders GM were in San Francisco together.

Elliot Wolf (acting GM for@Patriots ) was in Green Bay when they took Rodgers He was in Cleveland when they took Baker He was in New England when they took Mac He knows what happens when you take a QB with a bad roster around them and what happens when you build the roster first than take the QB. I expect Ne to trade back

Is that Ron Wolf's kiddo?

Here is another take on that topic:

Poor Mac Jones, he probably would be their starting QB if he’d been picked by the 9ers. Instead he went to a s#it show.
