CBS Sports.com Prisco: "Rumor is Vikings like Maye"
Vikings making moves to go up and get a QB. Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Word around the league is they like Maye.

This makes some sense to me. The org. has been very quiet about this kid.
@"Bullazin" said:Maye has the higher ceiling and could become a special QB, however he makes far too many head scratching throws/decisions. Will be interesting to see how he acclimates to NFL coaching, whether here or elsewhere. The Heels have employed a suspect coaching staff since Butch Davis' days. Sam has the higher floor - a gamer with a strong arm and a competitive streak, I was a little surprised Washington made the quick decision to move on. Bottom line for me - Sam can be a starter in this league but will not be a difference maker deep into playoffs. Drake has the ability, but will take some work. For what it's worth, Drake comes from a great family and support system. Each of this years QB's comes with some concern (including Williams). There may be a franchise quarterback or two that comes from the group. Conversely there may be none. It really is a crapshoot. As far as the Vikes are concerned, I would guess they are targeting Maye or McCarthy. They seem to approximate closely to KOC's QB profile. Zero chance I would add the 2025 1st to #11 & #23 for either. Desperation rarely wins out.@"Rigby" said: Personally, I would be rather disappointed with Maye...and I'm a Carolina guy. All of the Maye talk makes me think there is some truth to the rumors that started at the combine about us talking to NE about the 3rd pick. I wouldn't see us letting that kind of information about Maye out unless we had a deal there, because then it doesn't matter who knows. Would not seem possible, but with the trade today it sure seems like things are lining up that way, cause do not see us doing that unless we are moving up to top 3.
Just speculating, but I don't see the Patriots trading the pick. If they are open to a trade, there will be some serious juice flowing at them and the Vikes will be one of several bidders. If you believe the Bears, Commanders and Patriots all take QB's, then one of a few things is likely true: (1) the Vikings like Maye and McCarthy, and will swing a trade with the Cardinals for the #4 pick to get whichever is left on the board at #4; (2) they like one of the two -- Maye or McCarthy (I assume Daniels and Williams are off the Board) -- and they will swing the trade with the Cardinals if the QB they covet is on the board. If "their guy" is gone, they likely trade back. The obvious conclusion of the Texans trade is that they are not enamored with Penix or Nix.
I'll be at COSTCO the next day buying a new OLED screen if we trade up to 3 for Maye. This guy has Blaine Gabbert vibes dripping from his every orifice.
Dan Orlovsky: "Most of these 1st round QBs if they go to Minnesota are going to be really good. Kevin's great, their offensive line is great, Addison's an awesome #2, Hockenson's a stud...I think Minnesota made those trades because they want to go get Drake Maye...If this young man goes to Minnesota he will be a stud."
Looks like @danorlovsky7 thinks the #Vikings are moving up for QB Drake Maye 👀

Rig, how do you compare Maye to Howell? interested to know since you have likely watched both a lot.I'm a Tar Heel fan too and I agree with Rigby on his observations of Maye. Drake's dad was a Tar Heel QB back in the day, and a damn good one too. Also, Drake's older brother was a star on the Tar Heel basketball team (sorry Kentucky Wildcats). I think having a pedigree like that doesn't guarantee anything, but it's favorable.
Drake is a very confident QB, maybe too confident. It might explain some of his head scratching throws. And he is not one of these QBs that can only throw quick screens and to the protection of the sidelines. He will, and does, throw down the middle a lot and with accuracy.
His reputation is a QB that can run. His running style reminds me of Brad Johnson. Runs straight ahead with purpose and good speed but like Brad, not very elusive. It took Maye awhile, but he finally started to learn to get down before taking on the big hit.
And that's one big concern I have. He's very young and he's still learning the nuances of the game. I wouldn't say he's immature, just young (he turns 22 in August). Drake has a very high ceiling (he has a gunslinger's mentality) but his success will largely be decided on how he is handled and brought along by the organization and coaching staff.
IMHO, I'd be OK with JJM or Nix over Drake. They both better fit Bill Parcells' criteria of drafting a QB, and though Parcells' criteria is not perfect, I think it gives you a better picture of who you are drafting.
This is ironic to me because Maye reminds me of Sam Darnold coming out.

What's going to be hilarious is if its not Maye, lol.

I think Maye would be a solid pick. At 3 or 4 though the play may be to see if a certain Caleb Williams is willing to take less and force his way to us. He has made statements in the past and has refused to give teams medicals. The question is how comfortable is he with the Bears picking him. The bears, in my opinion have the possibility to be set up very very well. They also have the possibility if Williams says he does not want them to pick him, to trade out. They are in a flexible position and then to continue to stock pile high level draft picks. Similar path of Detroit Lions.
@"pattersaur" said:@"Havoc1649" said: all of these guys are mobile except Penix. I’m not buying this though. Maye is pretty inconsistent and has major accuracy issues on some easy throws. Unless he improves this, he’ll be an interception machine at the next level. With that said, it’s possible KOC thinks he’ll be able to fix it. His downfield talent is indeniable.
Just curious- what part aren't you buying? That we like Maye or that we are trying to move up?That Maye is their guy. Maye is super talented, but his weaknesses - short passing accuracy, anticipation/timing and processing are not a great match for what we’ve seen so far with KOC’s offense. Maye takes a lot of sacks because of these issues.
Now it’s possible that they think they can coach him on that stuff. From what I’ve watched of him (every game this past year), a lot of his issues appear to be related to his footwork more than anything. If they’ve decided they can get that stuff cleaned, then maybe he’s their target.
For me, I see a lot of Daniel Jones in his game. That’s what I see right now. As was the question with Jones, can you coach some of those issues out of him?
Personally, I think the ultimate target is Jayden Daniels.

I do too. Him and Daniel Jones. Hopefully, he’s better if we go that route.

I kinda think the Vikings have a handshake agreement with the Cards trading 11 and 23 for 4, and would be very happy taking whichever QB is left. But as they go through the draft process, they may realize that adding some juice to move up one or two more might be worth the squeeze. Remember, they did plant a seed with New England at the combine.
I just get the feeling Kwesi wants to be very aggressive in getting the QB they want. I even think that if any team other than the Bears owned the 1st pick, they'd go after that one too.

I dont think Arizona wants to miss out of MHjr. I think NE may be the path or number 5 depending on other variables.
