OT: Coronavirus
Wow....
Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.
What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

It is with great regret that the AELTC has today decided that The Championships 2020 will be cancelled due to public health concerns linked to the coronavirus epidemic.

- A friend in San Diego who went out, partied and didn't do a damn thing right. She's sick right now
- My son has 2 friends in Boulder that both have it (a couple) and he thinks he got it at Google-Boulder. They are young and barely showing symptoms.
My lady’s friend just lost her grandmother to it last night
Stay the fuck inside

Yes they do. They don't know why they like him though. I do, but I can't say it on this thread.
Can't say he's a trusted MD and apolitical? I'll listen to him long before the bloviating by the 24/7 and print media...

Try to cope.
Governor of Florida has just issued a 'Stay at Home' order for the entire state. About time.
@"StickyBun" said: Governor of Florida has just issued a 'Stay at Home' order for the entire state. About time.Amen to that. It was interesting that initially it was just part of the state.

What the heck is wrong with some of these Gov's? Midwest (Dakota's, NE, Iowa) Tx, bunches in the SE.
FL with it's elderly population? Too bad it took this long - even after the spring breakers fiasco it took this long.
Kudos to CA and Washington State for their early orders to stay the f home.

the orders will go into effect once the virus is at a level to warrant it. you cant completely kill an area months ahead of the arrival of the virus. its not like it hit everywhere at once. we dismissed our schools, and cancelled gatherings ahead of most other states around including Minny. Every state has to handle shit their own way that is best for their areas. and its not like Minnesotans are staying home anyway. they are over here all the time doing shopping and other shit. Everybody in SD knows that a shut down is coming, but in areas of lower population density its not going to likely be near as severe and will be easier to control. I am not naive on how its going to be, its going to get much worse, but the sooner you send the public into hiding the sooner they will stop taking all the precautions and if they come out and try and return to normal to soon we will have an even worse out break.just based on the spread rate around the country we here in SD are told not to expect this thing to really hit for another 3-4 weeks and to expect to still be dealing with it into June or even July. No way in hell you get an entire state to shut down for 4 months, no way.
Yeah it's kinda crazy, but every day our Gov., Iowa, tells us we are Iowans and we don't need anyone to tell you to stay home if your sick. I don't know how that works when you have asymptomatic transmission. I have an opinion why she is so adamant, it'll be interesting to see what her metric will be for the success of this policy. I have a kid in DC and one in Hannover Germany, and been getting a lot of facetime communication with them, it's a different thought process in those areas.

crazy times.

But Jimmy, that assumes the levels are not currently at a degree to warrant SAH. That could only be answered if we had enough testing capabilities in the U.S. Only the very ill can get tested today. Unlike Gold Standard countries like SK.Asymptomatic transmission is probably the reason for 50% of Covid-19 growth. Something like that.

I think all team NFL facilities had to be shut-down?

they are watching it by monitoring the growth rate of new cases through those that are getting tested. they know its going to come to that point, but simply shuttering things for a few weeks wont stop the wave that is coming, we will still experience the massive upswing like other areas and the goal is to hit the timing of that shut down just prior to that arriving to minimize the health effects at that time. it may not be a perfect plan, but to date we havent really seen even a reasonably perfect plan that would work in a free country of our size and population.People talk about the success in South Korea, well they have much less travel from foreign countries, much less open borders, are geographically smaller than minnesota, really hard to replicate that type of response in a country infinitely bigger with 6 times the population and different type of govt structure.

WTF difference does it make where they are meeting? This is an absurd requirement and work around.

Those that are getting tested are only the seriously ill, there isn't enough testing to do otherwise. The asymptomatic are a big part of the problem.Fauci is arguing the time to double-down on SAH is before you have to - for these very reasons.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think your Gov is wrong, hasn't learned from recent history and I think Waltz was too late in issuing SAH for MN.
shrug...

dont blame me... i voted for the other guy!and for the record... I cant speak for other parts of the state, but my area of SD is like 530 on a sunday morning at mid day. there are a few out and about, but SD pretty much shut down a week and a half ago. we dont need an official order in most places to do the right thing. (with exception of course) not to mention most of us would rather be alone or in small groups, we dont have the big gathering attractions that the larger metro areas do.
How localized was it in China? Would like to see the real numbers on that. From the generic maps of the country they seemed to contain it in one area, but sure that may not be the whole story.
