His offense struggled the last two years because he was given no O-line and a slew of mediocre RB's. He would be much better with Dalvin and this line.

Hey Geoff, I know we have the obvious guys here to look through like Bevell, McAdoo and McCoy, but have you heard of any up and comers for coordinator jobs in the college ranks? What about position coaches from other teams in the league, someone like QB coach DeFilippo from The Eagles?

He has been handcuffed with mediocre talent as of late, but prior to that, I think he was a product of overachieving talent.  When they had an o-line and lynch and a rare talent in Wilson, they overachieved, riding the emotional waves of the aggressive defense and lynch doing the impossible.  Wilson was a bit like Tark, scrambling around and eventually finding a big play. 

But I think as an OC, he struggled to build an identity without Lynch.  And that play call in the superbowl was flat out stupid.  Short QB, skinny WR running a slant at the goal line.  Who knew?  Besides everyone.

what you see as a negative,  i see as a positive.  he has stuck around through multiple systems and coordinators.  he has had a lot of experience in seeing what works and what doesnt and if he is still here there must be something about the guy that keeps him employed.  hes also young so he might have a fresher perspective on the game than some of the older dogs that are more entrenched in "their" system than in necessarily making a system that works for the players they have.

I think it really comes down to what Zimmer is comfortable with, he knows Stefanski better than any of us. We could also see another Shumur situation play out too. Say the Vikings end up promoting Stefanski to OC, they could still bring in McAdoo or McCoy as a specialist to help with play calling. 

I have researched a ton this morning about the OC position. I was higher on McCoy. I think I have come out of this morning on the side of McAdoo being our OC. I believe he would be a better fit here with Zimmer and has the pieces to make it work.

And what details did your research expose?    

I think McAdoo does a great job with making what he has work. I think he is a better adjuster than a McCoy. Ben has an act for running a variety of different types of power rushing to stretching the field and west coast style. I feel he has more adaptability with his style of offense.

Yes, I would say Brees is not our best option. I think his arm strength has already declined and the drop probably won't proceed gradually. He showed diminished ability during the regular season and in the playoffs (Sendejo INT was badly underthrown). If NO lets him leave it will mean they see he is about to crash. And I do think he depends on arm strength - even his college scouting reports all said he was a big-armed QB in a short body.
And....I know this will discolor my preceding points, but I think Brees is a POS who certainly knew about Bountygate and I wouldn't watch Vikings games if he was our QB.

Up and comers would be DeFilippo, Ryan, Callahan, and Stefanski. College coordinators are a bit more of an unknown. I doubt MN goes that route.

Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan
has been requested by the Minnesota Vikings to interview for their
vacant offensive coordinator position. Ryan is being lauded for his
coaching of Deshaun Watson providing one of the best debuts by a rookie quarterback in NFL history.

The interview is set to take place early next week and Ryan is
currently with the Texans coaching staff in Mobile, Alabama at the
Senior Bowl.

Ryan arrived to the Texans in 2016 as the wide receiver coach and then was moved to the quarterbacks coach after George Godsey was relieved of his duties after the 2016 season.

Ryan worked side by side with Bill O’Brien to help develop the Texans offense around Deshaun Watson putting together one of the most prolific offense in the NFL on the field to start the season.

“I feel like Sean (Ryan) has a real bright future in this
league.” O’Brien said of his quarterback coach at the end of the season.

O’Brien continued. “I think Sean’s goal is to call plays in the
league and that is why I don’t personally want to stand in his way of
having an opportunity to do that.”

If Ryan were to leave to the Vikings, the Texans would have to find their third quarterback coach in as many seasons.
