Vikings RB Latavius Murray says he’s better now than in Pro Bowl season of 2015
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-01-2017, 04:22 AM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

Two years ago, Latavius Murray rushed for 1,026 yards for Oakland and made the Pro Bowl. He claims to be a better player now.
Murray got off to a slow start in his first season with the Vikings, but there have been few complaints about his play lately. Over the past five games, Murray has rushed for 399 of his 496 yards on the season, including 179 in the past two games.
“I think so,’’ Murray said Wednesday about being better than in 2015. “I think I’m continuing to get better each year. Each year I’ve been in the league, that’s my goal has been to try to get better even if it’s just a little bit, and I think I’ve been able to do that.’’
Murray, 27, said a key to his improvement has been in the mental part of the game.
“I think I’m getting smarter the older I get,’’ said Murray, averaging 3.8 yards per carry on the season. “I know as I get older, obviously my body gets older, and I think I just need to continue the mental part of it, and that allows me to go out and play fast.”

Zimmer’s eye hasn’t been an issue this year – except when he’s hunting
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-01-2017, 04:19 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (3)

At this time last year, Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman was on a conference call with the Twin Cities media announcing that head coach Mike Zimmer would not be on the sidelines for the Vikings’ Thursday night matchup against the Dallas Cowboys because of an emergency eye surgery for a detached retina. One year later, Zimmer’s eye is stable – though it’s still affecting his accuracy while hunting.
“I have to hunt left-handed because I can’t see the peephole in my bow,” Zimmer said. “I can’t see distance… I use a scope and I shoot lefty now.
The Vikings’ head coach wore had eight surgeries in total. This offseason the team required him to take some time off during OTAs, where he still watching practice and communicated with players.
“I don’t think it will get any better, but I don’t think it will get any worse,” Zimmer said Thursday.
As for the exact amount of vision remaining, Zimmer said:
“I have some blind spots in my eye, so when I look and I’m reading the chart, I have to [move around]…Some days I get it 60/80, some days it’s 20/5. They count it if you get a couple of letters on that line, but I kind of have to peek. I have to have a contact in, too.”

  Not From The Onion

Josh Gordon - WR - BrownsBrowns coach Hue Jackson said Josh Gordon will start in his 2017 debut this weekend.

Gordon will be playing in his first regular season game since Dec. 21, 2014. He did play in the 2016 preseason. Still only 26, Gordon has youth and freak athleticism on his side as he returns from his nearly three-year layoff. He will obviously be rusty against the Chargers' Casey Hayward-led secondary, and not ready for a full complement of snaps. Corey Coleman should lead the receiver corps in targets. Gordon is best treated as a "mystery" WR4.

The QB Controversy That Shouldn't Be
Posted by: Zanary - 11-30-2017, 08:10 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (13)

(I don't know if this has already been shared)

Here's some brutal analysis:

"You know how, when someone you really care about goes away for a long time, your memory forms a lore regarding that person. You remember them as funnier, smarter, wiser and nicer than ever before? When that person returns, you’ve practically canonized them. This has happened to the Vikings with Teddy Bridgewater. Everyone in the organization admires Bridgewater. They were sick when he blew out his knee in August 2016. And now that Bridgewater is healthy, the question that has moved front and center is: When can we get him back on the field? Even though Minnesota is 9-2 and fill-in quarterback Case Keenum has only elevated his surprisingly high level of play since Bridgewater was activated, the conversation about Bridgewater has not disappeared. But it should."

Discuss.

Interesting note about who the other receiver was who stayed late to work on skills with Adam.

Enjoy. Also, but not mentioned....this is probably a big part of why the Viking's feel Teddy would do well in this offense.

  Turning point, Case to Kyle

Interesting look at the huge throw from Case to Kyle.  Looks like Hill missed the protection call and let the free rusher.  Love seeing Case watching it with the lineman afterwards.
