Charles Johnson Suspended For 4 Games

Charles Johnson - DL - Panthers

NFL suspended Panthers DE Charles Johnson four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
The suspension will go into effect immediately. "I have been recovering from back surgery, dealing with the daily grind of football and mistakenly thought this could help. It was an error in judgement on my part," said Johnson in his apology. "Regretfully I have disappointed people, but I promise to come back ready to redeem myself when this suspension is over." He'll be eligible to return in Week 17.

2 funerals today, can't make it up:

On the in-laws side burying a 66 year old non-functioning alcoholic (a blessing)
On our side, 34 year old still tbd why someone so young died this week.

One Christian service, the other Jewish before sun-down.

Vikings football is a nice diversion today.

Hug someone you love, life is fleeting....

I just jinxed the team,  It just slipped out before I realized I had done it.

I work with a philly fan and he was talking shit and before I could stop myself I bet him that the Vikings would finish the year better than the Iggles.  Now I am sitting here trying to convince myself that the $200 will be better than a superbowl victory...

my hard and fast rule for the last 20 years has been "never bet on the Vikings, but never bet against the Vikings" and i went and broke it... Damn it Me!

Baker Mayfield - QB - SoonersOklahoma redshirt senior QB Baker Mayfield was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.

Mayfield also came away with the honor back in 2015. Perhaps the Heisman Trophy favorite -- we still like Lamar Jackson as deserving but there just hasn't been the same excitement around him this season as there was a year ago -- the redshirt senior has thrown for 4,097 yards (71.4-percent completions) with a 37/5 TD/INT ratio for the regular season. He's had his minor moments of non-football infamy this season (planting the flag after a win over Ohio State, his vaguely NSFW acts against Kansas) but there have been no signs that those incidents will have any impact on his chances for big-time hardware.
I see Keenum with more arm talent...sign Case to a deal similar to Glennon...let Baker marinate behind Keenum...but, there will be a couple safeties around this spot that would look good here...top end G too...

Vikings Case Keenum week to week as he goes win to win. Hey, it works.
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-01-2017, 04:33 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

Minnesota’s past two starting quarterbacks, tacit or otherwise, were knocked out for the season by knee injuries, Teddy Bridgewater in August 2016, Sam Bradford this season for the third time in his career. That uncertainty is what pulled Keenum, an on-and-off starter in five-plus seasons.
That might be reason enough not to anoint Keenum the permanent starter. The Vikings have two franchise quarterbacks on the roster and neither is the guy leading the team to its best season in years. Bridgewater, for whom the Vikings traded up in the 2014 NFL Draft, is now a backup who hasn’t played in anything but an exhibition since a memorably cold afternoon in January 2016.
Minnesota controls its own fate in the division and holds playoff tiebreakers on the Rams (8-3) and New Orleans Saints (8-3). Heavy lifting remains, but victories over the Falcons (7-4) and Carolina Panthers (8-3) the next two weeks would set the stage for a final boss meeting in the playoffs with the Philadelphia Eagles, 10-1 and winners of nine straight.
With a path to the NFC Championship game and little room for error, Zimmer’s hesitance to pass his quarterback a valentine in public seems prudent. Frankly, Zimmer probably should still be eating the same thing for breakfast that he had Oct. 9 in Chicago, the day Keenum relieved an immobile Bradford in a 20-17 victory.
The Vikings haven’t lost since, and Keenum remains week to week while playing the best football of his career: 2,476 passing yards with 14 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 96.2 QB rating.
“I never said Bradford was the starter for the season,” Zimmer said. “Everybody assumed it, but I don’t know that I have to say that.”

3 cheers for Vikings QB Case Keenum from everyone but his coach
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-01-2017, 04:28 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (9)

For Vikings QB Case Keenum, stature rises even while status uncertain
Case Keenum’s celebrity status is reaching new heights even if his hold on the Vikings’ starting quarterback job remains up in the air.
A day after leading Minnesota to a 30-23 victory at Detroit on Thanksgiving Day, Keenum attended a Timberwolves game and received a standing ovation from the Target Center crowd when introduced. Appreciative fans didn’t seem to care that earlier that day Vikings coach Mike Zimmer wouldn’t guarantee anything beyond Keenum starting Sunday’s game at Atlanta.
On Wednesday at Winter Park, it was more of the same. Zimmer was asked if there is anything Keenum could do to be named the outright starter over Teddy Bridgewater, who has not played since suffering a torn ACL in August 2016 and has been the backup the past three games after being activated off the physically unable to perform list.
“We’re just going to keep going one week at a time,” Zimmer said. “That’s the way it is. I’m not looking to pull him, but every week’s a different week in this league.”
Keenum is 7-2 as a starter for the 9-2 Vikings. No wonder sports fans in the Twin Cities are believers. When Keenum was introduced from a courtside seat during the second quarter of the Timberwolves’ 109-97 loss to Miami last Friday and shown on the jumbotron, he got perhaps the biggest cheer of the night.
“People immediately stood up and started clapping,” said Fox Sports North sideline reporter Marney Gellner, who interviewed Keenum later in the game. “They were waving to him. They were pointing to where he was sitting. It was a pretty boisterous ovation.”
Plenty of Vikings players have attended Timberwolves games in recent years and been introduced, including Adam Thielen, Everson Griffen, Kyle Rudolph and Xavier Rhodes.
“I can’t think of anyone (from the Vikings) who has gotten a bigger ovation in recent years,” Gellner said. “People wanted to show how much they’ve appreciated (Keenum). They just wanted to shower love on him. It was really cool.”

Vikings’ Laquon Treadwell putting wins above receptions
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-01-2017, 04:24 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (6)

Before the season, Vikings receiver Laquon Treadwell said he had some personal goals. He provided only a ballpark figure on his targeted number of receptions this season.
“Whether it’s 30, 50 catches, whatever,” he said.
With five games left in the season, Treadwell isn’t even halfway to 30. The second-year player has 14 receptions for 152 yards, but any frustration has been tempered by Minnesota’s 9-2 record.
“Of course I would love more targets,” Treadwell said Wednesday. “Of course I would love the ball in my hands, but we’re winning and things are going good, so you can’t fix what’s going right. You’ve just got to keep playing your role and be patient and just keep learning.”
