  Packers IR violation
Posted by: BlackMagic7 - 12-24-2017, 08:02 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (10)

Anyone reading the news about "teams" filing official complaints over the way the Packers handled Aaron Rodgers' 2nd trip to the IR?

Apparently the rule is written to specifically say that a player cannot be put back on IR for the same injury.

The rule goes on to say that any player who is placed on IR for the SAME injury must be released.

Kinda curious is anyone else has followed/caught this today, and also maybe if anyone is making popcorn?

(Im more taken back by the rule and the implications than an expectation that it'll actually happen. I thought it was a joke until the rulebook was quoted.)

#Vikings likely looking for a temporary long snapper. Kevin McDermott dislocated his left shoulder last night. He's hopeful to return for a playoff game.

OpEd: It wasn't a pretty victory for Vikings, but at this point who cares?
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-24-2017, 06:57 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (6)

If there is a downside in terms of the entertainment value of this season, it's that the Vikings are making their surge to the finish line seem clinical.– The doors to the visiting locker room inside Lambeau Field opened, and a crowd flowed in. Teddy Bridgewater was the first player to walk down the hallway. He sang, “Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell Rock.’’
Across the hallway stood Sam Bradford, wearing sweats and talking with a Vikings official. As the hallway opened onto lockers, the corner stall was occupied by Case Keenum, the guy who wasn’t considered a franchise quarterback, who may lead the Vikings to the second 13-victory season in franchise history.
In a year of odd juxtapositions and strange happenings, the Vikings experienced both on Saturday night. They shut out their archrival in a late-December game, on the road, en route to the playoffs, and yet the game felt … anticlimactic?
Maybe “routine’’ would be the better word. On the sloppy tundra, the Vikings defeated the Green Bay Passives 16-0, sweeping the season series. This wasn’t the Vikings’ finest hour, yet this is becoming one of their finest seasons.
“It doesn’t matter how,’’ Keenum said. “It matters how many.’’

Sam Bradford is eligible to return to Vikings practice

IMO best QB on the roster when healthy...fwiw

As Vikings players milled about in a jubilant visitors’ locker room at Lambeau Field early Sunday morning, the two quarterbacks who’d once carried the team’s fortunes were already dressed and ready to file out of the locker room.Teddy Bridgewater, Case Keenum’s backup in the second half of the season, smiled and sang “Jingle Bell Rock” to himself as he walked toward the team bus. Shortly behind him was Sam Bradford, who began the season as the centerpiece of the offense, transformed into an enigma and has resurfaced in recent weeks as a more visible presence.
Bradford, who was placed on injured reserve Nov. 8 after having surgery to clean up his bothersome left knee, is technically eligible to practice now, and could be activated from injured reserve in time for the playoffs. The quarterback twisted his knee in the Vikings’ season opener, and after it turned into an ailment that limited him to two ill-fated quarters the rest of the season, he had surgery in part because, as coach Mike Zimmer said, “Nothing else was working. We had to try something.”
It didn’t exactly sound as though the Vikings knew an operation would work at the time, and given the fact Bradford had suffered two torn ACLs in his left knee, he could have knee issues the rest of his career. “I’m not going to say the knee was weakened,” head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman said on Oct. 10. “That’s probably not accurate, but certainly it has to do with having had two ACLs in that knee, so certainly that’s a contributing factor.”
Still, it’s interesting that Bradford has been more visible in the locker room and on the sideline in recent weeks, especially after how rarely he was seen around the team before and after his surgery. It comes around the time he’s able to return to the practice field, and while he’d take far from the most orthodox path to a playoff roster, he could potentially be a quarterback option to the Vikings, should they need one.
