Tough games all week, and what a great way to start it out - Skol Twins!

In the old days he would have struck out! Twins still have reliever problems, but they are a good team. It's a nice change.

The big kid has really turned a corner in the last month at the plate.  Twins patience is finally paying off.

Did anybody else catch his post game interview?  Sano was absent from the dugout until the 9th inning when he was called in to pinch hit if necessary.  They asked him where he was and  his reply,  in the clubhouse batting cage working on hitting sliders....the pitch he sent deep over the center field wall... a slider of course.

Twins lose 1 1/2 games off their lead in one day... lose to Braves again while Indians sweep double header from Rangers.  The Twins are now 4.5 games behind the Astros, 5 games behind the Yankees and only 5.5 games from missing the playoffs entirely.  These next 4 games with the Indians might decide the rest of the season.

Well that was a weird 10 days.  Lose the division lead at home, then get it back thanks to a road sweep of the Rangers and the Yankees slowing down Cleveland.

Twins are now 40-22 on the road and 36-26 at home.  Are we sure the upcoming home stand is a good thing? :p

It's been a weird year overall in the AL. Baseball generally has the most parity from top to bottom of the pro sports in win pct.  A couple teams at/above .600, a bunch around .500, and a maybe 2 under .400.  Not this year. The Twins' 76-48  .613 win % is only 3rd in the AL and 5 games from missing the playoffs entirely (Oakland is 6th in the AL at 71-53).  And then the bottom falls out and crashes into a crowded cellar:

Contenders
NYY 83-43
HOU 79-46
MIN 76-48
CLE 74-51 WC1
TB   73-52 WC2
OAK 71-53
________________
Pretenders
BOS  67-59 (trying to make a move, but they have to jump 2 teams, not just one)
LAA  62-64
TEX   60-64
------------------------
See You Next March
CHI 55-68
SEA 52-73
TOR 52-75
KC   44-80
BAL 39-85
DET 37-84

FYI, the Twins have 6 more games with the Indians.

The starting rotation is just as suspect.  I said back in may and june when people were clamoring to blow the war on a top shelf pitcher that we needed more than 1 or 2 pitchers to have a rotation and bullpen built for playoff baseball.

Nice win, Twins!  Viking season is upon us,
and our beloved Twins are definitely more than just being relevant.  The
Indians might still take us, but it ain't going to be easy sitting 6.5 back in early Sept.   B)

Can't wait to see Twins vs. Indians this Sunday from the Target Field stands!  Sure wasn't expecting this when I got those tickets back in March B)

Basically the Twins need to split the 6 Indians games and otherwise just not do a faceplant.  Their last 13 games after the final Indians series are vs. the White Sox (3), Tigers (3), and Royals (7).

Have a great time, RS.  My oldest son is going to the Vikings game Sunday, and may try to catch the Twins Saturday.  Sounds like a great sports weekend in the Cities.  :)

How weird is it to win a game in which you ground into more double plays than you had hits? B)

The great news: Twins clinch AL Central! =)  98 wins and counting is their most since 1970.

The bad news: They're getting the Yankees in the ALDS.  We've seen how that ends.  Although the Twins didn't, because they were always too busy hiding under their blankies to see anything.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the Twins get 2 wins.

Edit: The Twins last won a playoff game in 2004.  They've lost 13 straight.  10 to the Yankees.  Have a nice day :p

Great season for the Twins.  Hope the Bombas are all awake in the post season, they'll need them.

Absolutely meaningless stat since IIrc Gibson is the only 1 on this team that is connected to those teams that were psyched out by NY.

The curse of Joe Mauer is over,  new team with a new trajectory and destiny.

It's exciting to be a REAL part of the postseason, regardless of how it turns out.  That one game business feels more like a "last chance" to get in than actually "In."

Trajectory and destiny still tend to need some starting pitching to get very far :p   Stupid Pineda.   Now the Twins have Odorizzi, Berrios and, um, uh...  Smeltzer? Dobnak?

Remember when the bullpen was the problem?  Now the Twins have 7 relievers with better ERA's than Odorizzi.  They just have to hang on until the 6th inning to get to them.
