3 Twins Prospects Could Be “Off Limits” In Trade Talks
By Connor Byrne | July 11, 2019 at 11:30pm CDT
With July 31 approaching, the AL Central-leading Twins have reportedly shown interest in an array of pitchers who are potential trade candidates. The club has been connected to Madison Bumgarner, Will Smith, Marcus Stroman, Ken Giles and Kirby Yates in the rumor mill over the past few weeks. However, if the Twins are going to make win-now moves this month, it doesn’t it appear they’ll come at the expense of any of their absolute best prospects. Shortstop Royce Lewis, outfielder Alex Kirilloff and right-hander Brusdar Graterol are “off limits” in trade talks, according to LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune.

They were doing a ton of batting re-work with the guy...Had to take a # of steps back. Hopefully he (and the team) are going to reap the benefits going forward.

I'm not ready to give-up. Not saying he's the next Big Pappy, but  I could see this going down a path like that and I  can't stomach another one of those.

He's got the power,  and most everything else,  but will his brain take to the teaching or will he revert back as soon as he has a little success?  1 for 4 with 3 Ks today.

Well, even if he doesn't...  he has rare power.  Here are Sano's HR paces if he played a full 162 game season:

2015:  18 HRs / 80 games (HR pace = 36)
2016:  25 HRs / 116 games (HR pace = 35)
2017:  28 HRs / 114 games (HR pace = 40)
2018:  13 HRs / 71 games (HR pace = 30)
2019:  13 HRs / 43 games (HR pace = 49)

If we're expecting him to develop into a .280+ hitter, I think fans will be disappointed.  It seems pretty clear he won't reach those kind of expectations with a .243 career average halfway through his 5th season.

But...  if we're expecting him to be more like a Ryan Howard or Mark Reynolds (both had high strikeout rates, but lots of HRs) then that seems reasonable.  Both hovered around a .250 career average, but belted a ton of HRs.

There is plenty of room on a MLB roster for a guy who can hit 35+ HRs in a season.  Especially in today's game where more and more teams are going for the long ball against these power pitchers that are so prevalent now.

its his strikeout rate that is concerning,  even a lower average guy can move players around without getting on base himself.  granted sacs dont count against the average,  but damn his Ks seem to really be hurting the team.   theres a little bit of Mauer syndrome here,  with Joe we didnt want to lose that average,  but other than that he was a liability at his price,   but that average was often inflated at times when we didnt really need him to produce.  Sanos dingers are nice, but we need him to hit in more clutch situations and not be an easy out because he is just swinging freely.   he is showing a little better eye lately.

Twins lose 3rd in a row 14-4 to the Mets, 11-14 in last 25 games.  Lead down to 4 games over Cleveland (18-7 in their last 25).

Geronimoooooo….. splat.

2 of last 3 losses on trevor may,  how is he still on a major league roster?  He has never shown any consistancy and need to be used only as an innings eater when the game is lost.

It's a long season, and I really hope they can hang in there with the big boys.  Mays and Duffy aren't going to cut it.  The bullpen needs help for sure.

On another note, I'm headed to the family lake cabin this evening for the next 11 days.  Hope you all are enjoying your summer.  The fishing is heating up too.

It's time to pull the trigger if they are going to do it.  They will end up over paying by being one of the first in the market,   but with the As hanging in the west and the Indians making it extremely interesting in the central,  not to mention the cards and brewers in the NL,  plus the other division leaders....time for the pohlads to buy in.

Twins have 9-5 lead after 5 innings... blow it and lose 14-12 in 10.  This bullpen's jerseys should have "FLAMMABLE!" patches sewn onto their sleeves.

You said "Pohlads" and "buy" in the same sentence..... bwahahahahaha.  They'll do nothing because this is already the Pohlads' dream scenario: filled seats with a lower payroll than last year.  No way they'll trade for pitching help because that would cut into the profit margin.

Pretty funny,  but they will be buying.  Especially after tonight's bull pen disaster.  If they won't spend now it's time to force a sale or contract the franchise.

Sling TV gets rid of Fox Sports North, so I loaded YouTube TV today to once again start watching Twins baseball.  Wow, did I catch a nice win.  Way to go big man, Sano!

Tough games all week, and what a great way to start it out - Skol Twins!
