I thought that since the Vikings were in the playoffs other teams couldn't requests interviews for coaching positions until they were out of the post season?

They can request to interview during a bye week, but they have to do the interview during that week.

I am more concerned with finding a good OC that can keep this going than losing anyone to Detroit.

Expect Kevin Stefanski to get a strong look internally for the OC job when Shurmur leaves.

I cannot imagine Zimmer ever preventing one of his coordinators from interviewing for a HC position.

The thing about losing Shurmur to Detroit is he would not be taking Keenum with him.

Hopefully not, but Keenum is a free agent after this season...

Yep, he, Teddy and Sam are all FAs. And it is no surprise teams are going to look at Shurmur for HC. If it is a team without an established QB, I figured Shurmur may want to take Keenum and make him the franchise QB. Keenum would have a hard time passing on that.

I thought they were super high on that Jim Bob Cooter guy?  Surprised they wouldn't just promote from within.

Yea, I would think they go with a Defensive minded HC.  I think the Bears might be a better fit for Shurmur but sucks he might be in division.

I know that these coordinators want to "move up"... but I sure do wish they would just focus on the job at hand and let all that other stuff take care of itself.

Lions, Cardinals get permission to interview Vikings’ Pat Shurmur for head position
The Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals have received permission to interview Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur for their vacant head-coaching positions, sources said Monday. The Lions’ job opened when they fired Jim Caldwell following a 9-7 season. The Cardinals’ position came open when Bruce Arians stepped down following an 8-8 season. Sources had told the Pioneer Press on Sunday night that teams expected to show interest in interviewing Shurmur were the Lions, Cardinals, Chicago and New York Giants. The Bears on Monday fired John Fox and the Giants last month ousted Bob McAdoo. The Vikings have a bye before they play their first playoff game Jan. 14, and Shurmur is allowed to interview this week with teams for a head position. It is expected the interviews will be held in the Twin Cities. “If he gets requested to interview, I’ll let him interview,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Monday. “This is the time (teams) can do it. I can give him certain days that they can come and do that. This time of year, you can request that they come here during the bye week, so that’s what we’ll do.”

The Vikings don't have a say in letting him interview, any coordinator is allowed to interview for a head coaching position (promotion) without the teams permission. Teams just need to formally address who they want to interview, which is why they submit the request.

MN only have two right when it comes to their coordinators interviewing. They can select the times they're available for interviews (yes, they have to give a time they can't say it won't fit in the schedule) and they can require the interview to happen in Minnesota. Typically, this is the norm and its done in a hotel/conference room.
