Cousins signs with Falcons
Just announced on NFL Radio. 4 year deal
Compensation update: Falcons are giving QB Kirk Cousins a four-year, $180 million deal including $100 million guaranteed, per source. It’s $45 million per average per year.

I can’t imagine the 4th year is very solid. Just reading the vague tweets, it sounds like
it’s $90M guaranteed years 1 and 2 (with 50 of that as a signing bonus), and
$10M guaranteed in year 3. So it could
be a 2 year deal $100M with a $35M dead cap after 2 years or 3 year deal (hard
to guess what year 3 would cost, maybe 132.5M) with 12.5M dead cap after year
3.

$45mm was the # predicted
+ vs Danny Dimes
+ After the Cap Raised
We will have a much better team with an extra 45 million a year to spend.

I think the most practical way to imagine it is that
tampering doesn’t really exist, unless you piss off the league a lot and they
want to rail you for something.
The Vikings wouldn’t pursue anything because they very
likely encouraged tampering because the alternative is that Kirk doesn’t start negotiating
with each team until today and it delays us knowing what our plans will be
until that negotiating is completed. But
you are right that we would gain nothing from a tampering case.

FU Cousins."After significant and positive dialogue with Kirk and his representatives, we were unable to reach agreement on a contract that fits the short and long-term visions for both Kirk and the Minnesota Vikings. Kirk holds a special place in Vikings history, and we appreciate his leadership and contributions to the team and the Minneapolis-St. Paul community over the past six seasons. We wish him, his wife, Julie, and their children all the best. Our approach heading into free agency always included layers of contingencies regarding the quarterback position. We are moving forward with plans that allow us to continue building a roster that can compete for a championship." – Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah
Obviously not a hit in the locker room, either.
Tragic.

You keep telling yourself that buddy. Ain’t gonna matter with a dog shit “bridge QB”. Front office better hope and pray we find a QB in the draft or they’re fucking done

Remains to be seen.

Nope, you knew it wouldn't be either...JJ, Darrisaw you name it. They know how tough it is to find a good QB.
This is a pretty sad day for the Vikings and their fans imo.
Bradbury is warming up the car, popping in the Creed, & backing his way to Kurt’s house as we speak…! ;) B)

OK - Thanks - Yeah I was reading people saying we would get "draft compensation" and I didn't think so.

As someone who’s been okay with moving off Kirk for a couple years now, I gotta admit I’d hoped we’d have someone with a pulse waiting in the wings when it finally happened. Don’t think this current situation is what even the most ardent Kirk detractors would have wanted. Ugh. I agree. Sad day.The only silver lining is that this isn’t a series finale. Just a cliffhanger of an episode. Let’s see what happens.

This season is toast. You won't replace what Cousins meant to the team on the field or in the locker room in 2024. The only reason for any amount of optimism is hit it big with a rookie QB that will be the face of the franchise for the next 10+ years. Good luck with that, its only what every single team in the NFL wants.

No worries, we have Viking luck... Oh wait... Shit!
silver lining.... the Vikings didnt get stupid and held hostage again. Yes they lose the starting QB, but they arent stuck in a bad contract for the next 4 years, its going to sting a bit, but they didnt overspend when backed into a corner, which is typically their response to losing an aging impact type player that will likely decline over the course of the deal. onto the next chapter.

At some point, you have to move on. Would you rather have Cousins for 4 years/180 million?

Spilt milk though. Sigh. Let me go dig up the Fields thread.
