The Vikings are shopping edge rusher Danielle Hunter
The Vikings are shopping edge rusher Danielle Hunter as the clock ticks toward Sunday when he is owed an $18 million roster bonus, Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune reports.
Hunter has a $25.83 million cap number for 2022, and the team needs to clear space to make their new deals official.

Bummer :s
Hunter has a $25.83M cap figure. The Vikings need to clear space to make their new deals official.
This is what, the third straight year we have had offseason struggles with Danielle and his contract? News that his agent is being unreasonable and his upset about losing Dre. Trade him then as the dude does not wanna be in Minnesota and he’s already benefitted enough the last two years without hardly playing. Get a great return, draft one of these DE’s early and let’s move on
He has played so little that I really wonder how much he will be missed. If he is unhappy I hope they find a trade partner.
It is what it is. They need to free up money. It sucks but there are only so many options they have.

But it's the exact same with your boy Cousins, and we'll be dealing with his contract shit again next offseason with no long term solution in play. Hard to believe that we continue to let Cousins bend us over a barrel with his contract at the expense of losing guys like Hunter, who we can't find the money to pay. Hunter is 27, had more sacks before the age of 25 then anybody in NFL history, had 6 sacks in seven games last season before tearing his pec. He's a freak and an elite pass rusher. The injuries the last two seasons have been unfortunate weird injuries. I absolutely do not think he's "injury prone" because he's been fine the 5 years prior. Huge mistake trading Hunter so they could pay and extend Kirk for one more season
Unfortunately, the fact this news is out and not just a trade being announced tells me that our haul won’t be that big for him, if any. Hopefully I’m wrong and time will tell but nothing says, “we value this guy” quite like “we’re actively shopping him!”

Lolololololololz dude you’re a clown. Cousins isnt my boy, I just dislike folks who use team stats to say someone is good or bad. There are dozens of advanced analytic websites where it’s very easy to see how players perform compared to their peers…you should check it out sometime. We have money to pay Hunter, it just seems they dont want to overpay for a guy who has played less than 25% of games the last two seasons. I understand it’s hard for you to understand because you think everything is Kirk’s fault but if Danielle wanted $8MM more a year then that’s easily created by one of several restructures.

I don't know what happened there. I tried to add one, let me know if it worked.I am just chillin. There are some tough decisions that are being made. Someone we may not want to be gone is going to be gone.
Doesn't look like this roster is getting better than last year. I doubt we're going to add a bunch of rookies in the draft that will make this a playoff team. Getting rid of your best defensive player sounds like a crappy plan to me.

Yeah it’s early so I’m just kind of shrugging but there’s no doubt that so far I don’t think the new regime has distinguished itself from the previous regime at all.
Stark contrast from Ryan Poles in Chicago who’s tearing it down. Is that the right move? No idea. But can’t say he’s not putting his stamp on the roster. Kwesi taking a much lighter touch, so far.

The thing is... I don't see where Hunter fits in a 3-4 defense. He isn't playing with his hand in the dirt and it's no guarantee he'll be an elite pass rusher at OLB. Given his contract antics the past two years and the injuries, now might be the perfect time to get some valuable draft capital and free up some money while we acquire players who are a better fit for our new defensive scheme.

He is a limited, good not great quarterback but we continue paying him like a top tier guy at the expense of juggling our cap every year. We'll be doing it again next year He didn't take a pay cut, he just moved around money to open up cap space for THIS season while he's on the hook for 40 million next season. It's just hard to believe we keep bringing him back (we've done nothing with him) and now we are trying to move Hunter, who is an elite player, because of the cap implications of his contract. I'll just agree to disagree with you. Not impressed with this new regime and the decisions they are making

What are you talking about? First off, Cousins took a deal that cut his cap by about $14 million to give the team more cash to find some players. Also, he has a reasonable cap next year. They won’t need to mess with his for two years now. He’s making the 6th or 7th highest QB pay, which is for once commensurate with his overall value.
You have to let go of your obsession. His contract is team friendly and reasonable. His play has been excellent. He’s done what he can do. Now it’s on guys like Hunter to work with the team. Just like he can’t play defense, he can’t make Hunter sign a new cap freeing contract.
I believe the Vikings can do some restructure on his contract and keep him. Someone else may have to chime in here, but I think they can lower the hit by adding void years. I’m sure they’d like to avoid that, but the ability to do it makes his trade value batter.
Not having to get rid of a guy definitely helps your position in a trade. Hopefully they can get good return. Might be worth looking at bringing a player with, sometimes that has more value to the team than a pick.

I like Kirk, but I'm not in the camp that believes continuing to retain him is in the best interest of the franchise. We'll once again be negotiating with him next offseason entering the final year of his contract and having to figure out how to juggle the cap. Chances are this team will be pretty average again next season with all the transition, so retaining him for a year, maybe two does what for us exactly?
