The Vikings are shopping edge rusher Danielle Hunter
The Vikings are shopping edge rusher Danielle Hunter as the clock ticks toward Sunday when he is owed an $18 million roster bonus, Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune reports.
Hunter has a $25.83 million cap number for 2022, and the team needs to clear space to make their new deals official.

Bummer :s
After sitting an entire season for a “tweak” (which turned out to be a serious neck injury) it got out that Hunter still wanted to be the highest paid edge rusher, so they adjusted his contact, to give him a year to prove his health. Hunter returned on a tear & lasted what 7 games. Now he still wants to be paid amongst the elite. I know what Bud Grant would say, “the best ability is availability.” Hunter doesn’t pass that test. So if the team goes ahead & does the simple restructure, will he decide to hold out & raise a stink, probably. Tough situation, don’t know the solution, good luck Kwesi… what a clusterfuck! :s

That makes it easier to sign Hunter not harder. The other options would at best, made little to no difference in available cap money for Hunter and you’d have no QB. Of course you could have paid the $45 million in cap space on the original contract and gotten rid of him next year. No matter how you sliced it, he was eating up cap this year. Who are you going to replace Cousins with? Do you have a cheaper top 5 QB rating guy in your pocket? Is he one that is paid at the 6th or 7th highest at the position? If not will you work your wizard skills and conjure one up for us? Can you find us one with no cap cost? That’d be great. All of your “plans” are not plans. They are a roll of the dice and nothing more. The statistical probability of winning a championship in the NFL drops to near zero once you get rid of an efficient and effective QB. That is proven year after year after year over the decades. It could be another decade trying to find another top level QB. Like I said, roll of the dice and the odds are statistically quite poor. It would be different if we had had a top draft pick at Quarterback on the bench, but we don’t.
Someday, perhaps one of you will come up with a logical reason to get rid of Cousins, but I’m not holding my breath. Most of you try to peddle the W/L record nonsense. A better description of such an argument might be “stupid”. You try this irrational argument because you have nothing else. The numbers don’t lie.
There is a deeply irrational obsession held by a number of people on this board when it comes to Cousins. It’s a constant regurgitation of absurdity on nearly every post, whether the topic has anything to do with him or not. He is not going anywhere so it’s utterly pointless to continue this nonsense on each and every thread. It’s time to move one, let it go, make your peace with it.
I saw a stat yesterday that stated that Kirk Cousins has been the highest paid (avg) QB in the league over the last 5 seasons (since 2016) do you think that makes sense? that, while he is a pretty good QB, that his play merits him being the highest earning QB in the league over the last half a decade?
No, that is not logical at all.The NFLPA should have Cousins teach a class on contract negotiation for rookies. For a good, but limited QB he is the king of cashing big checks.
Cousins foundation for contracts was created by the previous front office. He is operating under that approach and carried it forward. They certainly have. Was hoping to see a different approach by this new front office but it's largely been more of the same.
He is using what worked for him and why not. Also if the Wilfs wanted to keep him, that's a consideration. If KAM and KOC wanted him that's part of the equation too. Again it's cleaning up a mess in order to move forward. It is going to be a work in progress.

of course they want him, every GM and coach in the league wants him, I want a lot of things too, the elephant in the room however is it a wise move to have him at the terms he is requesting based on his history. I totally understand his position, its really a tough spot for KAM, but like he said with the Cousins deal ( and IMO failed to do) he needs to do whats best for the Vikings. I hope he is thinking whats best over the duration of any deal he makes and not just for the coming season.
Bottom line is it's tough to negotiate with a guy/agent who don't want to be here unless they are paid like they are Top 3. He is not so I feel bad for Kwesi as well
I think Hunter needs a new agent... he's getting bad advice IMO.

Yea right huh!? Except the Vikings are currently up to $22,089,562 in dead money for ‘22, ouch…!!! :s
Since the Vikings are very very interesting in Bills RFA Guard Ryan Bates, how about Hunter to the Bills for Gregory Rousseau and Bates?
@"Vikergirl" said: I am thinking if they are looking at a trade that Hunter doesn't want to restructure. If that is the case, he has to go. I don't like it but something has got to give.My thoughts exactly. He, or his reps anyways have made an issue for the last three off-season's. No doubt he was underpaid based on his rookie contract. But it left a bad taste in my mouth last off season when there were rumors of him sitting out camp/OTA's because he wanted a renegotiated contract. Pretty bad look in my eyes that he signed a new deal in 2018, missed all of 2020 so essentially played only two seasons of said contract and was asking for more money.

To some extent, I think that's true. But one of the reasons I like having Kwesi is, an analytics guy will have a dollar value on every position on the team. I think he will be less likely to over pay. I don't think Cousins has anything to do with Hunter's contract situation. But I do feel that neither one of them has been a good return on investment!

God damn, man, just give it up. Stop trying to correlate Kirk with Danielle. The two are not tied together. Danielle doesnt want to be here, hasnt wanted to be here since before the 2020 season. Stop. Trying. To. Bring. Cousins. Into. This.

And what did we learn from this whole fiasco boys and girls?
