Tom P on NFL network just said the Vikings are making calls for a move up scenario for a sliding OL.

Yeah, I saw that but didn't bother reading it. Is it possible that AVT stays at tackle in the NFL? You bet. But it's pretty  unlikely. The tackles who survive out there with 32 inch arms are rare.

If he's the pick, maybe you throw him out there with O'Neill and Cleveland and just see who wins the job.

I don't want tackle over guard as much as I don't want a bust. History tells us that 1/3 of the 1st round will be hits, 1/3 will be misses and the rest will be in between. If that means taking a safe player, I'm all for it. Even if he plays guard. We just can't miss.

The article is based on his speed/cherry picks some of the fundamentals he shows on tape. Reality is when he played against high-end NFL talent (Thibodeaux) he got annihilated at tackle.

Understood, but you're talking about a guy who is probably gone in the first 30 minutes of the 2022 draft.

Rick Spielman: "We're not locked in on one position, I can tell you that."

I'm a fan of the reverse cowgirl myself.

Wait.

@"supafreak84" said: I'm with Geoff here. AVT looks like a guard. We can get some quality players at that position is the 3rd and 4th rounds. The names projected to be on the board still in those rounds is impressive and there will be some talent available.

Again, I'm sticking with my prediction of Jaelen Phillips in the first round with the offensive line being addressed with multiple picks afterward

I'm in this camp for the most part with the expectations I think the gameplan will be:

1. Best Case Scenario: Sewell/Slater if a trade up is reasonable or they get lucky
2. Next Best Scenario: Phillips
3. Worst Case Scenario: If all 3 are gone trade back and take one of the other edge rushers in the 1st

So you are not a fan of Darrisaw at 14?

Not over an edge rusher. He would be a consideration in a trade back but doubtful he would last much past #14. If they trade back they'll have plenty of ammunition to add an OT later.

I have to admit, it seems most years I'm torn between what I consider a "smart" pick and a "lust" pick. The edge would be the lust pick: Hunter-Pierce-Tomlinson-Phillips/Paye. Dayum. Bring on Purple People Eaters II.

And then you try to find a way to make the OL work: O'Neill - Cole - Bradbury - Cleveland - Udoh. In the middle rounds, draft a guard and a tackle to compete with Cole and Udoh. Or sign Fisher. As you pointed out before, there are flexibilities with both routes. And our offensive line, even status quo, through natural development, has a chance to be better than it was last year.

And, yes, I know there are people reading this with steam coming from their ears. LOL

Ok, I forgot AVT was a T-Rex. Thought he was just under 33" not barely 32".

G. Only.

This is the way.

Asked Rick Spielman about addressing the QB position in the draft. His answer: "There’s no position that is off limits going into this draft."

Rick Spielman said the #Vikings are one of the teams who'll be able to be unmasked in the draft room, since everyone who will be in there is vaccinated.

14. Minnesota Vikings: Alijah Vera-Tucker, OG, USC
In this scenario, I think the Vikings’ decision would be between Phillips and Vera-Tucker. I’m going with the latter for this reason: Minnesota took a risk last year on Jeff Gladney and is now paying the price for it. And Vera-Tucker, as it stands, is a safer proposition for the Vikings.

This was one of my big takeaways from the presser. Sounds like the #Vikings could pick at 14 and still end up with a second round pick by being aggressive on Day 2.

Spielman mentioned several times that w the number of 4th-rd picks that they have (4) that they'll have the ability to trade up into the 2nd -- " we see most of the guys we're targeting are going to be gone in the 2nd round, we're going to have to be aggressive to move up"

"If there is a player on defense we value" higher than an offensive player, Rick Spielman said they would go with that defensive player.

Well, doh

According to ESPN's Todd McShay, he's getting a "strong reading" that the Falcons like Florida TE Kyle Pitts. With it appearing likely that quarterbacks will be selected with the first three picks of this week's draft, Atlanta could end that run with the fourth overall pick. Pitts (6'6/240) is considered by many to be the top pass-catcher in this draft class, and he would give Matt Ryan another viable weapon to work with. That being said, given Ryan's age, there are some who believe that the Falcons could look for his potential replacement here. This is certainly an intriguing spot in Thursday's first round, as Atlanta's decision could have a major impact on what happens with the next few picks to follow.

That's a tough trade up. To move up from the first 3rd to, say, the middle 2nd round, it would require our second 3rd and two of the 4ths. At least according to the chart.

Agreed. But the Vikings LT is going to have the honor of playing against Khalil Mack x2, Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, both Bosa's, etc.. Thibodeaux may have ended up being the least talented rusher AVT went against in the past 365 days... ok that is a joke, but you see what I'm saying.

Take this how you want, but here's @nfldraftscout on the #Vikings' first round plans:

"You might be thinking left tackle here and while that’s definitely a consideration, everything I’ve heard points to edge rusher being the team’s priority if the right player is on the board."

doesnt the strong rumors of the falcons shopping julio kind of make this a really dumb move considering how close to the end of the road that Ryan is?  if they are indeed going to part ways with julio it would seem that they are closing the book on matt ryan as well and might as well skip the play makers and get started on their next chapter by taking a or trading out and adding what could be a first or more for next year.

The status of Virginia Tech CB Caleb Farley is one of the biggest question marks in the draft. At this point, landing in round 1 ist is very possible but not a guarantee.

Darrisaw has the arm reach, played all 3 years without last year opt-out, and got better every year.  I would love him at 14 waaay before AVT who is clearly a Guard.  I think their is a huge drop-off from Darrisaw to the next guy and I don't want to settle for a drop off player.  I want one of the Big 3 and will be very bummed if we don't get one of them.
