Again our coach shows he is a dipshit.
Even Tommy Kramer checked in and said, 'Just do your job. Make the kicks. Its no an organization or coaching issue. When does not doing your job in the kicking department in a game situation suddenly become a coaching problem??' (paraphrasing)

(paraphrasing)If Kirk was having an off day and was missing receivers by entire zip codes,, but the game was still close, would you tell the OC to dial up more pass plays and give up valuable field position by throwing a bomb on 4th down? That is essentially what Zimmer did by trying that 54 yards. I dont know any coach that would suggest working through bad form/mental issues by attempting the hardest kicks to get your confidence back.
Smart play there would have been to punt. Even a touch back would have been 24 yards of field position gained. A run for no yards would have been 7 yards gained.
I agree with Olson here, in that moment the right option would have been take the field position over the long odds of Bailey making that kick.
Given the factors--down, distance, score, Bailey's history at that distance, and the two missed kicks earlier in the game, I kick that field goal probably 10 times outta 10.
I have my problems with Zimmer but that wasn't one of them. In fact, my biggest problem with him (game prep) wasn't an issue in this game. We seemed to have come out well prepared.

Just like not building an oline for years and years. Sure blame the players, makes sense. Get a new kicker today. And when he turns into a head case blame him and get a new guy again. And again.
But God forbid the guys who are in charge ever be held accountable, we can't have that.... extensions for all!

I expect better, especially from an ownership that brags ad nauseum via the p.r. department about it's championship intent and philosophy and alleged wonderfulness.

I'm not saying that and never have: I've been critical of both Zimmer and Spielman. What I'm talking about is specific to this game, which I've said now ad nauseam.

This is exactly what I have said time without number. Thanks for explaining it very well. I don't have any problem with that decision.

Or keep the old guy, because if we got a new guy and he turns into a head case like the old guy, instead of blaming the coach like we should, we would just blame new guy, cut him, and get a newer guy? Is that pretty much it?@"StickyBun" said: Even Tommy Kramer checked in and said, 'Just do your job. Make the kicks. Its no an organization or coaching issue. And again. If you're saying that Zim is too impatient with kickers, I might agree. That Carlson guy has turned into a pretty good kicker for the Raiders. But the decision to move on from Blair Walsh has turned into a wise decision.
Up until last week, Bailey had been pretty good. And he was very good last year. Do you move on from that after a two-game slump? Maybe. Tough call. But whatever decision is made, you can bet it will be the wrong one.

Zygi just extended him. I think we have our answer.
It might be time to move on from Zimmer although I am not sold on that decision. What I have been saying since the game yesterday is there is no way yesterday's loss was on Zimmer.

the problem is historically doesnt mean much for the now. How many times historically has Bailey been as bad as he had been that last 2 weeks? He missed 3 kicks last week and had missed his first 2 this game, its not like he was hitting uprights or had bad footing, he is flat out sucking ass right now with his place kicks and there was nobody on the planet that has watched him kick the last 2 weeks that thought he was honestly going to make that 54 yard kick. hell you could see it in his eyes after the first miss that he was lost mentally.

I agreed with the decision at the time too.Not the season to blow things-up, even after another playoff ass whooping.
But I'm ready now. My gut tells me Zimmer isnt the guy to take the team to greatness tomorrow.
Zygi isnt afraid to pay multiple coaching staffs for a period either. The flip side to that is the cash flow after a covid year.

I could be wrong, but I think the last 3 head coaches in Zygis tenure were under contract when they were let go. I dont think that extension would prevent Zimmers termination. I dont expect it to happen, but I dont think he is automatically protected by it.
I think missing 8 starters, 9 yesterday, from last year's D might cut Zim some slack.
After half dozen years, Zim has as many playoff wins as Reid at the same point in his tenure in KC.
@"BarrNone55" said: I think missing 8 starters, 9 yesterday, from last year's D might cut Zim some slack.its not the D, or lack of, that has people questioning his coaching style.

Well, to that I would only say that his other misses were yips--easy chip shots that were 100% in his head. Sometimes it takes a long field goal to get back on track. I don't know, I just know that's what I was thinking when they sent him out...that he was probably more likely to make this one than another chip shot. Might've been what Zim was thinking as well.
@ BN - Reid (imo) is more progressive than Zimmer.
We've entered subjective territory now...I'm just not convinced Zimmer is the right guy to win the way the league is going.
I think its time to cut-bait after this season, in spite of the sound points you make.
