Wow....

Yeah, DIA is never that empty. My goodness, this thing has really gotten ahold of people. But I suspect that it's going to make a far bigger dent in the global economy than the global population.

What changes have you made? Personally, I have tickets to fly to San Francisco with my kids to see my brother in a couple of weeks. And, so far anyway, I plan to go. But I have to say I'm a little nervous about it, especially with my kids. Not as much about the virus as how people are panicking about it. A flight yesterday was rerouted to Denver because someone, um...sneezed. And I am narrowing in on some ridiculously priced tickets to Cancun in May. Am I crazy?

Anyone else here following the rules and getting frustrated that others aren’t?  I live in NYC but have been in Madison, WI since the beginning of March (stuck/enjoying it here).  I rented a house on Lake Monona, my lady and I are being strict about this, including deliveries, being outside and 6 feet away.   It was a beautiful weekend, and our neighbors are having parties.  6 people plus 2 kids at one, 5 mid 20 year olds at the other.  They aren’t hugging, shoulder to shoulder but they aren’t 6 feet apart.

We are the people who have it very good, it’s easy to be here therefore we should be the ones who must be strict about it, and these fucks are violating the rules.  It’s frustrating because if the people who can isolate easily are doing this, that means this is going to last forever.

1 STAY THE FUCK INSIDE if you live in a city
2 If you do go outside, 6 feet damnit

We all have to pay attention to these rules, it will make it easier for those who can’t (low income communities, etc).

Just venting

i dropped a few F bombs at walmart saturday morning and they were plenty loud for the offending party (and everybody else within 50' to hear.)  We were there before it opened and waited,  as people approached the door they had a greeter standing outside and welcoming people as well as reminding them to stay 6' from other shoppers,  he was also slowing up people coming in so that there wasnt a log jam at the sanitation station,   there was a woman in front of us so we stopped,   but i just pushed by from another young woman from behind who then reached across my wife and grabbed a hand sanitizer ( i am still hearing the greeter 10 feet behind me say "please maintain 6' between you and other shoppers",   so I blurt out a "WTF"  and she completely ignores me,  I then loudly commented on the absolute igorance and rudeness of the fucking dumb bitch that just plowed through my wife and I.   I then wathced as her and the woman ahead of us speed walked to the TP aisle,  ..... Fucking morons.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that California will help New York and other states meet the COVID-19 crisis by loaning 500 state-owned ventilators to the Strategic National Stockpile.

with a small monthly contribution

“California is stepping up to help our fellow Americans in New York and across the country who are being impacted the hardest right now by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Newsom. “We still have a long road ahead of us in the Golden State — and we’re aggressively preparing for a surge — but we can’t turn our back on Americans whose lives depend on having a ventilator now.”

“I know that if the tables were turned and we were experiencing a hospital surge, other states would come to our aid and provide ventilators just as we are today,” he added.

I live about 200 miles south of Chicago. A local family had a big birthday party for one of there kids. Family from Chicago drove down for the festivities.
My daughter lives in the Kankakee area. She surrendered her 3 yo daughter to my wife and I to get her out of the more dangerous area of the state

Interesting read on the genetic detective work going on world-wide regarding coronavirus break out.

About the only thing experts agree on now is that it's probably bat related.

The wet markets in Wuhan may have been an amplifier for the spread vs where it all began...

my SIL tried to have birthday party for my niece last weekend... Needless to say my opinions on that subject were well registered although IMO poorly received.  Who the phuck is so ignorant that they would organize a social  gathering in the middle  of  virus outbreak?  some people just shouldnt have been allowed to breed.

The numbers may differ from various studies, but the Doctor Lady here does a nice job of explaining it to those that are still a little confused by what the CDC and others are trying to achieve in the rural areas especially but the theory stands for the urban areas as well.

Just got back from the grocery store, brought a mask, just in case, and most folk were wearing them.  Funny the power of peer group pressure, not sure if I would have done it if I was the only one in the store.  But I know it's the right thing to do.

I am not surprised. Sad but true several churches are gathering saying that the government is denying their religious freedom. No one is denying religious freedom, the focus is on keeping people safe. Any religious organization that puts their parishioners at risk is not helping anyone. My mom's church makes DVDs and CDs of sermons and they have online services and tv services as well. More churches should utilize technology to help their parishioners at this time.

And baseball announced players will receive their checks.  I have seen several who are donating their checks to help.

Pretty cool how some of these people are helping.

On twitter I saw Sharyl Attkinson gave away 1,000 to the first 100 people that emailed her.  Great idea - cool if it went viral.

At the bold... I could not help notice. Some can't make a post without tying it to the "almighty" Trump. I wonder how the bold is related to the gesture. I bet in some twisted reasoning baked in someone's brain Kraft and co are doing it because of their "friendship" with Trump. The post is even qualified with the word "apparently".

For such a delicate snowflake constantly triggered and whining about leaving politics out of this he/she/them/they sure do bring up politics a whole lot.

you must be confused,  I am the snowflake that is asking posters to keep the fucking politics off this board.   A1 is one of those that has no issue with injecting politics on any forum.

Not sure the confusion but neither myself or the post I quoted mentioned you. We were both talking about A1.

just that I dont see him asking to not talk politics on this board,  i think if it was up to A1 there wouldnt be separate boards or rules prohibiting it in this forum.

He doesn't ask to not talk politics as long as it is politics that align with his. But when comments dont align with his he frequently calls out mods and posters for talking politics, what he perceives as talking politics or when mods "like" when someone posts something he perceives political. And mocks them by saying to keep politics out of this.

well i guess we all have our quirks...

It is also bullshit.  Jimmy - you are the mod.  When have I ever called out politics or objected to political discussions?!?

Maybe I call out personal attacks against other posters AFTER I am accused of that.

Weird because on 03/31 you called out Jimmy for liking a post that I made which triggered you. Even though it wasn't  a political post. You are looking for fights, and it is painfully obvious.  Hence you being triggered by my none political post and you adding silly things like Robert Kraft being Trumps pal to comments.

But the numbers we see could have been prevented had our country had its shit together.

How so?  It seems like we have done fairly well.  It looks like the bed situation was just fine.

What should have happened was China shouldn’t have lied and WHO should have done their jobs.

Nope, wifey and I, were both symptomatic, mid March after a trip to DC a couple weeks earlier.  They were only testing those they were going to put on ventilators, is what we were told.  State, Iowa, had less than 600 test available and less capacity to process them.

I hope you’re joking. China is 100% responsible. The WHO isn’t clean either. Even up to mid January the WHO was telling us there was no evidence there was human to human transmission. The US did not dawdle on this as much as sick people want that to be the case.  As for preparedness, that’s a topic much of the media doesn’t really want to touch:

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/los-angeles-times-and-bloomberg-news-federal-stockpile-of-n95-masks-was-depleted-under-obama-and-never-restocked

The one “saving grace” for avoiding complete blame for the abomination that was our massive shortage of supplies, is that not much had happened the past couple of years either. I couldn’t even find evidence the admin had noticed how low the stockpile was. I don’t think they had a clue until it was needed.
Plenty of blame to go around, but there is no question there’s a primary group of people responsible. They happen to be the exact same people on tv the past couple of months trying to obfuscate their utter failure. For instance citing a NSC group that was “fired”. It’s not actually true of course. The duties remained, there was simply a shifting of responsibilities and some title changes.
The stockpile was Heavily depleted back in 2009 and most of the public hasn’t a clue. The sheer power of our media to set the narrative is incredible. In my opinion, partisanship will ultimately be our downfall.

lets get this thread back on the non political track.  we have plenty of room for threads on the ST side to discuss the whos and whys,  lets keep this one as politics free as we can please?
