Agree completely. I'm actually gobsmacked more people aren't excited about this. I agree with Cris Carter. When the Packers, Lions and Bears saw us sign Murray to throw to Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson, they probably said "Oh shit."
He could blow a knee in training camp and it's all over, but if he stays healthy, this is going to be Darnold all over again. Better actually.

I always like optimism, let's giddy up....but I have to see a few games first with Murray. I think in my case, I just haven't thought about Kyler Murray in a serious way for a while now: he was in Arizona, they usually sucked, I saw some run-around hero ball highlights but they usually lost the game when it was all said and done. I don't think he's won a playoff game....and played shitty in that only appearance. Distilling my point down, I just wasn't paying attention to Kyler Murray or what Arizona was doing the last 3 to 4 years. Then it just seemed like it happened so quickly: rumor about Murray coming to Minnesota and bam, he's here. I'm like ok, lets get up to speed on the dude. I've watched recent highlights and he's mostly throwing short passes and there's big RAC.
I can understand the upside for sure. I can get my mind around that this will be the best surround he's ever had. He's healthy. I do try and listen to other posters like yourself that are excited and the whys. There'll be renewed focus on the run game which will help him or any QB1. Positive signs of why it might be a big pop. But there's also a part of me that doesn't see the pocket passer that is necessary to move the needle in the playoffs. I just have to see it first, then I'll buy in. That doesn't mean I'm not excited about the potential however.

The noise may be exhausting come August, but Minnesota believes it will also serve as fuel to lift both Murray and McCarthy.” - @alec_lewis on… pic.twitter.com/LtBqOvcoJE

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
I'm hoping JJ McCarthy gets first crack at first team reps when OTAs and training camp open up. He was the starter last year. If KOC is the man I think he is, he should give JJ reps with the 1s and let him have a chance to show he's developed since last season. Mix in Kyler and see what it looks like in comparison. If Kyler gets all the 1s from the get go and JJ is mixing in behind him and Wentz, that's BS.

Prepare to be frustrated. I mentioned this before, there's no optimal way for this to be a fair and equitable competition. Logistically its impossible. But that's the smoke they'll be blowing in the fan's faces. This team loves JJM, despite what some fans think....which I never understood. So many injuries all over the place, everywhere, and some fans just refuse to factor that into JJ's play. Amongst other factors that have been mentioned ad nauseam. On to the next shiny thing, I suppose.

This is a great point from a team building standpoint. While I believe Murray will win the job easily, JJ deserves an equal shot to compete.
IMO, McCarthy didnt do enough to remain the starter going into this season.
He's certainly a candidate, but not an incumbent.
And this is from a fan with no personal malice towards the kid.

I still contend you are going to see McCarthy make a drastic jump this season after basically doing nothing last offseason while recovering from knee surgery. He will finally have had a full offseason to get bigger, stronger, and better without the headache of rehab holding him back. That is a huge factor. Don't forget, he didn't play football for essentially two years. He's a competitor and a winner. You can bet the taste of last season and the acquisition of Murray has been festering all offseason and he is going to work his ass off to win that job

6-4 as a starter.

The optimistic side of me thinks Murray and JJM are both going to shine this year. But realistically, both QBs have to grow into better versions than what we’ve seen recently. You speak of Murray as if his previous team didn’t just light tens of millions of dollars on fire to get rid of him in a year where there were no good alternative options, and also when no teams wanted to trade anything to go get him or to pay him a bigger long term contract to get him on their team. Just a year ago, we thought we were starting our SB window, so we invested heavily to make a run. This year, instead of doubling down on that strategy around the cheapest QB contract you can possibly get, they decide to abort that strategy, get rid of a bunch of veterans and basically are rebuilding for a new window sometime in the future. The Cardinals, the Vikings, and the rest of the league all sent signals that they’re not convinced Murray is the guy.
I like our chances this year, but it’s not unbridled enthusiasm for me.
Like when Tom Brady went to the Bucs, what happened? They said our window is now, and brought in a bunch of free agents to try and win now. If we thought Murray was close to taking us to a SB, we’d be spending money to increase the odds of it happening rather than waiting until he has a mega cap hit that limits the roster you can build around him.

Yep. When I hear someone say 'he'll be better than Darnold' methinks the purple Kool-Aid might have some vodka/cough syrup in it. Purple drank alert!
p.s. but I do like MB's enthusiasm.

That means we are SB winners, buddy. First Ballot HOFer in Murray. Just embrace it. It is inevitable. It is just time for JJ to show if he has that fire in him, like he always has, or he doesn't. Off season will be interesting.

I'm rooting for QB1. I mean, we all are. We'll have plenty of time to get the minor gripes and opinions out of the way, but come early September we'll all be on the Kyler Murray train. Kyler.....I want you to do something for me...

And then we pay him and he goes back to play station preparation..
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I think this is, for me, what gives me the most potential optimism: if Kyler is motivated and all that entails for a talented NFL QB, its possible he makes the most of this opportunity in 2026. If he wants to prove something, giddy up. I think JJM feels that exact same way, but I think most of us can see the QB1 is going to be Murray.
Hey September? Hurry up!

Duh. It wont be a true competition. It is Murrays job. I am surprised you turned on JJ so quick, however.
