My Overtime Proposal

I'm not really sure why I was thinking about OT the other day, but I came up with an interesting idea. No kicks. None. No kickoffs, no punts and no FGs. Just offense versus defense, removing special teams from the equation.

The winner of the coin toss would have to choose between starting with the ball at their own 25 or defending against the other team at their 25. With no punting, the team on offense needs to pick up the first down (probably multiple first downs) or the other team will start out with really good field position, but still no FGs, so they would need to score a TD.
A team couldn't just play the field position battle because there are no punts. A goal line stand by a defense wouldn't bail out the offense from having to move the ball (safety would lose the game). I could see some interesting strategies developing. Every play would be important, every penalty would be important.
This, of course, would only apply to the regular season. For the post season, they should really just play another quarter.

That's my idea, what's good and what's bad? Should FGs still be in play?

Jordan Hicks - LB - Eagles

Eagles MLB Jordan Hicks injured his hand on his honeymoon in Greece this week.
The severity of the injury isn't known, but it's not believed to be serious. Hicks is still in Greece but has sent pictures of his hand to team doctors. He supposedly got hurt getting out of a pool. Hicks is one of the building blocks on defense in Philly. He was Pro Football Focus' No. 7 inside linebacker out of 59 qualifiers last season, excelling in coverage. He could open camp on the NFI list if tests show a multi-week injury.

Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - Free Agent

Eagles waived WR Dorial Green-Beckham.
Green-Beckham (6'5/237) has built-in-a-lab type size to go with 4.49 speed, but he hasn't been able to put it together at the NFL level after being drafted No. 40 overall by the Titans in 2015. He was traded by Tennessee just one year later. After signing Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery in the offseason, Green-Beckham's chances of making the Eagles roster were slim. A player who has an abundance of physical tools has been extremely inconsistent, largely struggling with drops. Released early enough to latch on with another team for another chance this summer, Green-Beckham will have a lot to prove.

Per Schefter, the Raiders won’t have room to fit a new deal for the All-Pro linebacker under their cap after signing Derek Carr to a five-year, $125 million deal and giving Gabe Jackson a five-year, $56 million extension in recent days.
Carr and Jackson were the priorities as their rookie contracts expired after the 2017 season. The Raiders exercised the fifth-year option on Mack, extending his contract through the 2018 season.
Mack likely sets a new bar for defensive players when he gets a new deal. Only 26, he has twice earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors and last season won the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
