Eagles Kick DGB To The Curb - JustinTime18™ - 06-30-2017 Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - Free Agent Eagles waived WR Dorial Green-Beckham.Green-Beckham (6'5/237) has built-in-a-lab type size to go with 4.49 speed, but he hasn't been able to put it together at the NFL level after being drafted No. 40 overall by the Titans in 2015. He was traded by Tennessee just one year later. After signing Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery in the offseason, Green-Beckham's chances of making the Eagles roster were slim. A player who has an abundance of physical tools has been extremely inconsistent, largely struggling with drops. Released early enough to latch on with another team for another chance this summer, Green-Beckham will have a lot to prove. Related: Eagles
At one point early on he was viewed as a top 5 guy...Maybe he'll make it in the flag football league... Eagles Kick DGB To The Curb - Guest - 06-30-2017 I really don't know much about DGB. Obviously has the physical skills so it is the mental part of the game like not learning routes etc (ala Patterson) or is it off the field, work ethic etc... Just curious if anyone has a take. Eagles Kick DGB To The Curb - Guest - 06-30-2017 Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - Free Agent Dave Zangaro of CSN Philly expects Dorial Green-Beckham "to be the odd man out."
Several other Philly beat writers have said the same thing, and that was before Green-Beckham got off to a "bad start" during OTAs. With a logjam a receiver, Green-Beckham needs a very strong training camp to earn a roster spot, and he has not consistently performed at any point in his NFL career, which very well could be nearing its end. Source: CSN PhillyMay 30 - 8:52 AM Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - Free Agent According to Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski, Dorial Green-Beckham has gotten off to a "bad start" at OTAs.
We're just now getting into practices, so it's still very early, but DGB needs to be putting his best foot forward at all times. All the other receivers were showing well, except Green-Beckham, who had a drop, badly mistimed a 50-50 jump ball, and was screamed at by WRs coach Mike Groh for running routes with his head down. DGB ran with the second-team offense and is fighting for a spot. Source: Philly VoiceMay 24 - 8:45 AM Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - Free Agent Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer believes "it's difficult to see" Dorial Green-Beckham making the final roster.
The Eagles added Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith, and two rookies at the position this offseason, leaving Green-Beckham to compete with Nelson Agholor and perhaps Paul Turner for at best one roster spot. Agholor's contract makes it difficult for the Eagles to move on, all but ensuring DGB's days in Philadelphia are finished unless he surprises in camp. We are not holding our breath. Source: Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily NewsMay 9 - 10:17 AM Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - Free Agent Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice believes Dorial Green-Beckham "must be significantly improved to make the roster in 2017."
Following the additions of Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith, Green-Beckham is at best Philly's No. 4 receiver, and Nelson Agholor's contract essentially guarantees him a roster spot. That means DGB is likely competing for one of the last spots on the roster, and those positions are usually reserved for players who contribute on special teams, which he does not do. Unless he makes a big jump, DGB could find himself looking for his third team in two years. Source: Philly VoiceApr 11 - 11:11 AM Eagles Kick DGB To The Curb - Guest - 06-30-2017 The pivotal thing, to me, was him leaving Oklahoma after never playing a down despite telling the coaches he was going to stay. Not only was he deceiving the OU coaches, he made a stupid selfish decision about his career: he absolutely needed to show that he was dedicated to football and learning his craft, but he chased the fast payday. He made over $3M for doing little more than being hyped as "the next Randy Moss". That was always ridiculous! DGB was 6'5" and ran a 4.49 40; Randy was 6'4" and had 4.25 speed! Beckham scored 12 TDs in his best college season, Moss scored 28. Besides, Moss was a quantum leap ahead of the WRs playing when he came out, while there have been a lot of guys with DGB's level of ability. If there ever is a "next Randy Moss" in terms of his impact on the game, he would have to be about 6'8" and run a 4.0 40.. Eagles Kick DGB To The Curb - Guest - 06-30-2017 I think it's a maturity/dedication issue...he could dominate on physical ability alone...Maybe this serves as a wake up call... Eagles Kick DGB To The Curb - Guest - 06-30-2017 His wake up call should have been after he was traded by the team that drafted him after just one year. I don't think we need his maturity issues on the team for what little chance I see of him contributing. Pass. Eagles Kick DGB To The Curb - Guest - 06-30-2017 Does he fit the classic "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" mold? Eagles Kick DGB To The Curb - Guest - 06-30-2017 You can't teach 6'5" and 4.5 speed. Maybe Zimmer might be the coach to light a fire under his ass...
