U.S. Bank Stadium ‘Connects’ With Super Bowl Fans
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-08-2017, 04:54 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — When fans flood into U.S. Bank Stadium on Feb. 4, the Super Bowl excitement is guaranteed to be shared.
And when they do it will total multiple terabytes worth of cellphone texts and calls, photographs and videos.
Diana Scudder, executive director of network assurance for Verizon, knows that consumer’s appetite for cellphone data continues to grow.
More than 11 terabytes of data was consumed by Verizon’s customers at Super Bowl LI in Houston last year.
It is expected that fans attending the Super Bowl in Minneapolis will easily surpass that amount of data usage, making necessary the huge investment in communications technology at U.S. Bank Stadium.
A major part of that is the vast array of 1,200 cellphone antennas strategically placed throughout the stadium. It is called a Distributed Antenna System, or DAS.

Paton Won't Have A Chance To Tell The Browns To Pound Sand
Posted by: JustinTime18™ - 12-08-2017, 11:01 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (13)

John Dorsey - G - BrownsBrowns hired ex-Chiefs GM John Dorsey as general manager.

The hiring — announced just 11 hours after the Browns fired executive vice president Sashi Brown — must have been in the works for some time. The Browns claimed Thursday evening that they had also satisfied the Rooney Rule by interviewing a minority candidate. It's arguably the best-case outcome for the Browns after they panicked and pulled the plug on their outside-the-box analytical approach (bad process). Aside from some salary cap issues in Kansas City, Dorsey had emerged as one of the league's top general managers before his stunning June firing. With Brown stockpiling draft picks and young talent, Dorsey has the skill to put the project over the top. His first order of business will be deciding on a 2018 quarterback plan.
This is actually an excellent hire...wonder how long before they Brown it up...

  2017 NFL playoffs contender kryptonite...
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-08-2017, 02:37 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (4)

Minnesota Vikings (99.9 percent)Playoff kryptoniteThe kicking game
I'm truly sorry, Vikings fans. I don't want to dredge up old wounds by bringing up kickers like Gary Anderson and Blair Walsh, but with the Vikings executing in all facets of the game right now, their biggest concern is what happens on special teams. Minnesota was 19th in special teams DVOA heading into Week 13, but most of its success has come via solid punting work. Kicker Kai Forbath has been 2.6 points below expectation on field goals and extra points, which is 21st in the NFL, and just 54 percent of Forbath's kickoffs have resulted in touchbacks, which is 21st among regular kickers.
No team has the ability to control whether a team is likely to hit or miss field goals against it, so it's probably more realistic to worry about places where Forbath is likely to encounter wind or weather issues. I'd be nervous about the 30-year-old kicking on the road against the Eagles and Seahawks. The Rams, meanwhile, have been a league-best 8.8 points above average on kick returns, with Pharoh Cooper averaging 28.7 yards per attempt and producing one of the league's three kick return scores this season.
