Yikes, our schedule looks rough.  Ranks #9 in overall difficulty, but look at the road games versus the home games.

Throwing out the division, we have 1 playoff team at home next year, Philly.  Denver, Raiders, Redskins at home for the easy games.
Then on the road we have only 1 team that was below 10 wins, the Giants.  Seattle (again), KC, Dallas and Chargers.

Maybe I am jaded, but it always seems like someone in the league office hates us.

Last 3 regular season games against them have been in Seattle.  Playoff was at home.  I think we have split last 2 preseason games.

It's really just a rotating schedule.

2020 schedule:
AFC South (played them 4 years prior, but opposite venue):
Home - Jacksonville and Tennessee
Away - Indianapolis and Houston
NFC South (played them 3 years prior, but opposite venue):
Home - Carolina and Atlanta
Away - New Orleans and Tampa

1 away game against NFC East team that finishes in the same divisional position.
1 home game against NFC West team that finishes in the same divisional position.
6 games in the division.

So, the AFC opponent rotates every 4 years with opposite venue and the NFC opponent rotates every 3 years with opposite opponents.

It's actually a brilliant scheme for a schedule.

I realize it rotates.  We play the AFC West and NFC East next year.  But throw in Seattle on the road and (one I missed) atlanta at home.  As I said, 2 10 win teams and 2 12 win teams on the road.  One 9 win team at home.  All our playoff teams except for Philly are on the road.  Seattle has been a road game for us 3 times in a row. Probably after we travel to the Giants.

I'm pretty sure it's only 2 times at Seattle.  The Vikings got destroyed at home in 2015 against them.  Unless you're counting the preseason, which I have no idea how the NFL does that.

But, it's really hard to project which teams will be good next year.  I think it's around 50% turnover on average.  2017 playoff teams were ATL, CAR, NO, MIN, PHI and LA.  This year NO, LA, SEA, DAL, PHI and CHI.  So it's really hard to project.  However, I'm sure at SEA will be a tough game no matter how they do overall next year.

Ah, you are correct about 2015.  I think I was combining that loss with the Walsh debacle.

The 2018 season isn't even over (well, for the Vikings it is), and we're already revving up the excuse machine for another patented under achieving 2019 campaign?

Too funny.

The schedule has followed a strict rotation/scheme for years, we basically play the exact same schedule as the other teams in the North, except for 2 games which are slotted by what place you finish.   Additionally the home/road rotations are a little different - Vikes/Packers have the same for the common games and Bears/Lions for theirs.

This has been in place for at least 15 years.    The only variables are really when you play the opps and how the home/road games get put into the mix/order of things, plus timeslots like when do you play night, Thurs, etc.

Yeah, but all team's fans can say the same thing.  Do you think Bears fans are happy they've had to play at the Vikings in week 17 the last 3 years?

Talking football is one thing, making EXCUSES for a team whose season has yet to begin is quite another, Skippy!

But you probably can't understand that.

Please proceed with your pre-emptive 2019 excuses. I can help you out with a few:
* Kirky will be on his 3rd OC in 2 seasons
* Having 3 new O-linemen takes time to gel
* Cook missing (insert number here) games
* The damn schedule! ( oh, sorry, you already got that one)
* The defense needs time to adjust from the loss of (insert names; likely Barr, Richardson, Sendejo, etc.)
* Injury to player X (you know its coming, it does for most teams)
* Saint Ricky was unable to achieve the Holy Grail amount of draft picks....TEN! (cue Gregorian chant)

Those are just off the top of my head, Chicky. I have NO doubt you and the purple polyanna gang will come up with plenty more.... you always do!

Nighty nite, Spanky!

Serious question: why are you here?  There are only 2 things about the Vikings that you like: yourself- and anyone who agrees with you.  Everything else that spews out of your gaping maw is negative.  You talk about excuses; yet that's all YOU DO here: is make excuses for your negativity.  You really should go over to the Packer board; they would LOVE you there.
But before you spin it, attack (insult) other posters and do all the other garbage that you do... I'd really like an answer to the question: WHY ARE YOU HERE?

I get the algorithm for understanding which teams we play, but what's the algorithm for deciding who's home and who's away? or is their humans choosing who's home and who's away?  It seems like having a lot of away games against playoff teams sets you up at a pretty big disadvantage when it comes to the playoffs as you're more likely to be on the wrong side of tie breakers.  I would guess that an unbalanced schedule like this is probably worth a 1 win shift, as it's much easier to get those road wins against bad teams and much easier to get home wins against good teams.
That said I think it's tough to predict who's going to be "playoff" caliber next year as there's so much fluctuation with who's good and who's not.

I think njvike has some serious insecurities in his real life and this constant ridicule of the Vikings and other posters is all attempts to temporally raise is own self-esteem.  Why else would he come on this site and bait other posters continuously?  All this berating and belittling others is just to make him feel better about himself.  Maybe he should work on his own issues before making vial tries at ridiculing others.
Yeah, I know this will only bring him out again to start slandering me, but I not that insecure to let it bother me at all, nor should it bother anyone else either.

Exactly. I don't really think there is someone in the league office with an vendetta against the Vikes.  But wow, looking at our road games versus our home games based on this years record, that looks tough.  Not everyone will maintain the same record, but Seattle, KC, Chargers and Dallas all likely are going to be good teams.  Oakland will still be awful.

Don't you have some coach or GM threads to troll?  Hard to believe you can find ways to interject your woody about Rick into a schedule thread, but your insufferability never ceases to amaze.

But please, if you are gonna pop pills, remember the warning, for an erection lasting longer than 4 hours, please see a doctor.  And I think you are probably going on 5-6 days since the Vikings filled your fantasy by losing and missing the playoffs.
