It seemed like it was inevitable, but I'm surprised they made the move during the season. There was definite tension between him and Rodgers, but the bigger issue is their roster. When he's on, Rodgers can hid a lot of deficiencies, but I don't think it's a guarantee that a new coach can come in there and make things better.

If GB wants "Flipper", I wonder if Zim would help him pack.

Losing at home, in wintry conditions, to a bad indoor team with a rookie QB, reveals just how bad they are. Like I said last week, the Vikings beating a bad team like the Packers does not make them a good team either. The Vikings have always had an exploitable weakness from year to year, and this year is no different. After losing to the Seahawks next week, and the Bears again, at the end of the season, the Vikings could find themselves in the same position as the Packers!

Well, he does have something that Zimmer doesn't have.

We're having a disappointing season, but I don't see any reason to blow things up. I would expect a new OL coach, likely with heavy control over the running game, a new special teams coach, and maybe they could look to change out Edwards to bring some flesh ideas on defense. Zimmer is still an elite defensive mind, but it has definitely felt like something is missing this year. I think teams have been copying a lot of what we've done well, so offenses are more used to seeing those looks now, then you have offenses like the Rams and Chiefs who spread things out, use a ton of misdirection, and force defenses to play very disciplined, which we've struggled with at times. Missing the playoffs is a very real possibility this season, but I think it's more a matter of tweaking things and not blowing things up. I'd also add that we are starting to see returns on developmental players like Weatherly and Harris, so they are starting to develop meaningful talent, which is a big deal as the cap becomes more of an issue. We've also had some guys like Rhodes have uncharacteristic bad years. Hard to say what the cause is there, but it doesn't help things.

I could give a s*** about the Pukers, but this is a bulls*** move.  Hate him or love him, this guy has given his all to them and to let him go now when this team has zero chance of getting to the playoffs is bush.

Maybe so but I don't really think so. He had a longer run than he should have because of Rodgers and they had to move on. Why wait?

Multiple chins?
:)

That said, I wish he stuck around too. He's always been mediocre at best. Now I gotta hope the packers hire a Hue type coach instead of someone who knows what they're doing.

Fuck the Pukers.  Rodgers had enough so Doughboy is gone.  Not complicated or at all surprising.

I am sure he will have something to say if they didn't consult him lol.

I'm sure McCarthy was immediately put on Rodgers "no-call" list along with Father, Mother, Sister, Brother and Coach.  Hmmm, those closest to you (or should I say longest relationship), puzzling???

I wonder if Rodgers has been intentionally sucking just enough to make this happen

If the Puke were at .500 or better I could understand the move.  But what could any new coach offer at this point?  No, this was shoveling dirt on Mikey.  And this came from #12.

Maybe so but now he has no cover or excuses. He likes being the center of the universe in Green Bay. He certainly has the contract locked up. I wonder how things will go with Philbin.

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me if after the first six games or so Rodgers thought, "meh, let's get a new coach in here" and tank the season.

Wasn't Philbin the coach who was totally inept in Miami? I hope they keep him as the head coach.
Rodgers hasn't been able to stay healthy the last two seasons.  His accuracy seems off since he broke his collarbone. Father time is catching up to him; and he knows it. He won't be able to stay healthy.
