I don't think we have to worry about his mood. Diggs is getting shadowed by the best corner on most of his routes. Now, Diggs has proven he can beat shadow coverage, but Cousins needs more reliable protection for that to happen on a consistent basis. And why bang your head against the wall trying to get him the ball deep when you have a receiver like Thielen who's consistently torching the inside corners?

It won't get any easier this week either, as I read that Marshon Lattimore shadowed Michael Crabtree on all but one of his routes last week, while John Brown went wild. Once again, start your Thielens fantasy players.

Did you notice the Jets switched their shadow to Thielen after a while?  I didn't analyze the matchups, but noticed 27 was on Diggs later in the game.  Not sure how much help he had, but he made one really good PBU.

I thought Flip called a great game at Philly.  Not so much against the Jets. But Cousins had an uneven performance in the wind, on the road. The offense struggled through much of the game but the result was a decisive road win. I'll take that any day.
Flip's game plans are limited a bit due to an offensive line that is still finding it's way. Get Rieff back and Hill on the bench, and they will improve.
I'm not trying to make excuses for Flip. He has been a little up and down. But so far I think he is doing ok. The jury is still out.

just hope that those dirty bastards don't try an ala favre move and spear  Theilen as he goes across the middle to get him in the protocol program and off the field

I sure hope he dials up some surprises this Sunday. I got a feeling we are going to need the most we can get. I doubt this will be a game of defense. I'm thinking 30 points to win. That might be conservative.
Flip has yet to make me forget about what Pat did last year. Pat had more experience to be fair. I think Flip will be good in the long run. Once he gets good will he be gone too?

He sucks. I thought Childress was back. Cousins was check down charlie despite having several clean pockets. The play calling on offense was uninspiring. And Cousins has now had 4 bad games. That's 25%. Not looking like a franchise QB.

DeFillipo hasn't had a great 1st year. The passing game has looked very good at times, but has been undermined by protection and no 3rd receiving option stepping up to take advantages of the mismatches that Diggs and Thielen create. He's been known for utilizing TEs effectively, but Rudolph has been non-existent most of the season and we haven't had a 2nd TE step up into the move TE role. Morgan did it some, but he's best as a blocker and we've been missing him bad. The running game has been inconsistent at best and non-existent at worst. There is a case to be made that short can equate to running the ball, but even still we've been airing out the ball way more than necessary. And if you look at a game like today where Cook was rushing the ball well, he still only got 9 carries. Hard to grind out games when you are behind, but 9 carries is not good enough.

I think it is fair to say that that losing Sparano right before the start of training camp really hurt the team, especially when it came to the OL and running game. That's a tough hand for any OC to be dealt, then throw in a slew of injuries to an OL that was far from elite and Cook being limited or unavailable for long stretches of the season, then that makes things tough too. Still though he was brought in as an offensive mind, was given a good QB in Cousins and two elite WRs, so there were still pieces to make things work, which he has at times. Cousins has had some issues with protecting the balls and while not always perfect, is playing at a caliber to win. I will say that Shurmur had some struggles his first year two, so it's possible that given an offseason to study and refine the offense, some additions to improve the OL, and finding a 3rd WR and/or move TE, then things could click into place in year 2. He's been a step down from Shurmur so far, but I don't think things have been quite bad enough to necessitate a change, especially when the D and special teams have cost us games this year.

There will need to be adjustments to schemes, play calling, blocking, and personnel, but a lot of the big pieces are there.

The playcalling is boring and uninspiring. The play calls seem random and forced...

I know the offensive line isnt playing very good. I wonder if our playcalling is off how off are we on our blocking schemes/assignments and simply identifying things being thrown at us? When the blocking holds up, it seems like a mixed bag of Cousins making it look easy or a play looking really basic with nowhere to go...

It seems like Keenum benefited from really smart playcalling. He was often bailed out by an educated attack. Cousins looks handcuffed to some really stupid calls at times...

I think Keenum's mobility helped cover up a lot of problems with protection, but the team was also much better at running last season. I think that Sparano was a massive loss and his replacements were never able to adequately fill that void, especially in terms of the running game. Injuries haven't helped either, but we had a lot of injuries last year too, so that only goes so far. I'd also add that losing a reliable 3rd receiver in Jarius Wright didn't help. It was time for Treadwell to step up and he looked good, even beating out Kendall Wright in training camp, but as much as I've wanted to see him do well, I think it's pretty clear that finding a 3rd receiver will be a priority.

Our O line is the problem.  It's hard to be creative when your QB is constantly under pressure.  I'm sick of having one tackle or guard giving ol'e protection and seeing Cousins forcing a pass.

It just kinda feels like me calling plays in Madden. Sometimes i dont give a shit what the defense is doing; i'm going with a POST route cause it feels good. Then I yell at the game for being stupid when they go "Cover 2 man" and I never actually had a shot... or sometimes i call a screen not because they are crashing the ends but because I only visualize a huge gainer down the sideline, and im salty when then end or linebacker jumps it like the game is rigged when in reality it was a just a bad call. I dont learn any lesson and call it again to the same results. ... its predetermined, mindless playcalling. ... i call slants on 4th amd long when Im getting my ass handed to me all game in the passing game too...

The Patriots come out firing. We come out like we need a series or 2 to decide how to attack them with our passing game. Once they adjusted we had nothing. There were a few times where Thielen looked confused presnap. There were way too many schemed short throws. Those need to be outlets for Cousins, not the focus of entire plays...

I guess it seems like there is a night and day difference with identifying what the defense is doing and attacking it last year vs. this year. There is a lot more confusion this year about what we are even trying to do beyond calling 50 random passing plays and seeing what happens...

Flip might be a good QB coach, he might have great play designs, but his ability to call plays during a game leaves a ton to be desired.  Remember when we had Childress and the dink & dunk 3-4 yard plans on 3rd and 7?   Same shit.

Shurmur, for all his faults, could keep a defense guessing and mix in enough runs even after losing Cook, but more importantly he would at least dial up a play with a WR running a route for 8 yards when needed 7, or a WR run a route for 12 yards when we needed 11.   Cousins throwing that damn 3 yard slant to Treadwell on 4th and 11 was shocking to me.  That has ZERO chance dude.  You're better off launching a 30 yard hail mary for an INT and at least play for field position if you're going to be that chicken shit -I don't care what the progressions tell you where to throw on a blitz if it's 4th down and you don't throw past the sticks your chances of converting are 1%.  

Flip is not a good playcaller, period.  Is this his first season calling plays?  Anyone know who called the plays in Philly?
