Ryckophants Ain't Gonna Like These FACTS...
Rick Schpielman (oops, thats Spielman, my bad, I'm sorry) assumed control of ALL college and professional scouting in May, 2006. He had, from Day 1, TOTAL control of the BOTH scouting departmemts (Pro and College). FACT
Since Schpielman (darn, I did it again!) has graced the Vikings organization with his almighty presence, the Vikings have won a grand TOTAL of TWO Playoff games ( both at home, btw) IN TWELVE YEARS. Both of those wins, sporadic as they might be, were with 1 or 2 year FA QB's, I might add. A team needs to win 3 or 4 CONSECUTIVE playoff games to win a Super Bowl. Just wanted to put the 2 wins over a decade PLUS (1of which was a one-in-a-million finish) in perspective. FACT
For futher perspective, The Rex Ryan/Mark Sanchez Jets managed to win FOUR playoff ROAD games, and make CONSECUTIVE Confernece Championships in the span of TWO seasons. Again, just wanted to put the Viking's TWO TOTAL playoff wins in 12 seasons in CLEAR perspective. FACT
And the 2010 Green Bay Packers ( with a ridiculous amount of starters on their IR list, btw) won 4 consecutive playoff games, including the Super Bowl. FACT
Between April, 2011 and September, 2016, Schpielman (dagnamit!) has spent THREE 1st round draft picks and a TOTAL of FIVE draft picks (one of those THIS year, btw) on 3 Quarterbacks, ALL of which were force-fed to Vikings fans as THE Franchise QB they've been searching for since 1978. FACT. (D'OH!-nte and his losing record I don't count, unless 2004 is the ONLY year ya wanna focus on
The RESULT of this expensive draft expenditure? : As of March, 2018, NONE of these players are on the VIkings roster, and 1 is not even in the NFL. FACT
In 1988, I'm pretty sure the Vikings had an un-godly number of Pro Bowl Players (and that was when a PB designation actulally MEANT something). I seem to recall it was 11, but it might have been 10. Regardless, the OUTCOME of that season? Despite @ HALF of the Vikings starting roster being "Pro Bowlers", they got their collective All Star asses handed them by a Championship Team. FACT
At the end of the day (or SEASON), it doesn't matter how many starters Dicky drafts, or how young the team is or how many Pro Bowlers they have, or how much room you have under the salary or how much the media licks your azz.....DID YOU WIN PLAYOFF GAMES (as in MORE than one)? That's certaintly a fact for ME, but apparently many Vikings fans are content with a Division "title" and beating Green Bay. Hookay. I'll label this as OBVIOUS
Since 2006 - The Vikings have won a grand total of TWO Playoff games. FACT
Why am I posting these non-debatable FACTS ?
Ask Sir James from SD and/or Moronbells (sp? might be Womanlyballs, whatever).

Not lamenting thr past 12 seasons, merely pointing out that they DID occur and Dicky is equally as culpable as the players and coaches for the atrocious playoff record.
@"ArizonaViking" said: I really don't understand the point to this thread. Regardless on how bad you want to make Rick Spielman or the Vikings look. True fans will always cheer and root for this team no matter what. All your useless bad-mouthing of the Viking Organization isn't going anywhere or changing anyone's' feelings towards this team. The people on this board will always be loyal fans to the Minnesota Vikings. How is pointing out the Vikings' and Ricky's ACTUAL record "bad mouthing" them? THAT'S my point. I'm not thrilled with the RESULTS during Ricky's reign, and I am TIRED of hearing about injuries, schedules, bad calls, missed/made FG's, etc.
Seriously, WHY do Vikings fans get SOOO bent out of shape when I simply mention their recent playoff history?
It's ALWAYS watch what will happen NEXT year.....but the results NEVER come to fruition.
I'll believe it when I SEE it, not before.
My apologies that I no longer blindly goose step to the current tune emanating from Vikings HQ.
Let's see a couple of playoff wins this season and maybe I will be able to applaud RS. But until it HAPPENS, he'll remain the GM with 2 playoff wins in 12 seasons. All this other discussion about starters and pro bowlers is just meaningless.
Peace
@"pattersaur" said: All that matters is do you think Spielman has done enough to warrant at least one more season as Vikings GM. I think 99% of Vikings fans would say YES (We went to the NFCCG last year!).If things go south this year and the year after and the NFCCG was our peak well that stinks. But you can't boot a guy with Rick's record here. You just can't. Look how much leash the Packers gave Ted Thompson? By those standards Spielman is safe for the next 5 years. May as well learn to love it.
I myself am hoping for another good draft and another solid playoff run. I'd also take a super bowl. Skol!
Well, first, Ricky would have been gone with both Chilly AND Frazier adter the 2010 sesson, if were up to me. Does he warrant THIS season? Not up to me, and he's obviously here for the season, so its not even worth discussing.
Second, are you REALLY comparing the Packers 4 win playoff run, culminating in a Super Bowl VICTORY with the Vikings single, 1 in a million, home playoff win .followed by an ass kicking of monumental proportions? You can't be serious.
Spielman is on his 3rd HC, God knows how many DC's, OC's and assistants, and Cousins will be, I think, his SIXTEENTH starting QB since he arrived as VP in 2006. At SOME point, accountability HAS to be expected from the guy in charge of putting together the roster, wouldn't you agree?
It really is comical to me that SOOO many Vikings fans are content with almost non-existent playoff success and HOPE for better "next year".
Some might call it "optimism". I call it blissful ignorance of reality.
We'll see what happens in 2018.....many here are under the misconception that I WANT the Vikings to fail, but that's just juvenile minds hating on someone with the audacity to judge a highly paid executive on his ACTUAL results rather than the "hope" of next year.

Maybe it isn’t about pointing out or stating “facts” or an opinion. Maybe it is the childish way you have gone about doing those things.
His name is Rick Spielman, not Schpielman, Ricky, Dicky, Dick...
You sound like a third grader. But, that is just my opinion. Also, I don’t think you’ll ever be happy. If the Vikings win a Super Bowl in the next 3 years, you’ll say they should have won 3 and it is all Spielman’s fault they didn’t, except you’ll wont call him that, you’ll call him some playground name.
@"comet52" said:@"njvike" said:Why am I posting these non-debatable FACTS ?
Because you have a hard on for RS and no one else on this board gives a shit about your opinion, so you keep yelling about it in the hopes they might care but they still don't. Carry on.
Actually, it's more a matter of me being puzzled why the guy who has been in charge of personnel for 12 years is given a free pass for the woeful playoff record of this team when numerous coaches and players have been dumped and made to be scapegoats. It's BEYOND time to hold Dicky's feet to the fire. He just made KC the highest paid player in NFL HISTORY (unless, of course, the Ricky fluffers will pin this one on Zim and the new OC.... only if it should it turn to crap, of course).
I keep hearing about the 2017 Vikings being "1 win away from the SB", when it is EQUALLY accurate to say that they were 1 miracle play away from yet another 1 and done playoff appearance. Well, if they were THAT close and THAT good last year, getting the highest paid player in NFL HISTORY should mean an improvement on last year, correct?
Carry on.

Guinness is just fine for me, "Dude". What's your excuse?
After 12 years,I expected more than 2 playoff wins. If you're satisfied with sub-mediocrity, God bless. I expect more from exec's pulling down 7 digit salaries "promising" championships......Silly me, I know. I just cant help but judging people on their ACTUAL accomplishments instead of what they SAY will happen. Maybe thats a result of being born and raised in the Bronx instead of the Mid-West, where everything is beautiful, and people are judged by their words rather than their deeds.

Hell, if you can't be hopeful looking out over the next 3-5 years for this franchise? You probably never will be.
I have no problem with a different opinion. Freedom of speech is what makes this country great.
All I can say is that the dude is NOT lying. The Vikings have won only two playoff games since Spielman arrived.
He was a GM in Miami before he came here so I never ever will believe he did not have significant input in all roster decisions from day one.
Having seen all 4 Super Bowl losses and being a fan since 1969, I can totally understand the lack of patience.
The Vikings, and by default, Spielman, have to win a Super Bowl. That is the only measure remaining for this franchise.
The buck stops with Spielman. He will get the credit and he will get the blame. It comes with those paychecks.
But, he has been doing very well since hiring Zimmer. The team is on the uptick making the playoffs twice since Zimmer arrived.
Spielman has done a fantastic job in free agency thus far. Cousins was the top QB on the market and Richardson was the top DT on the market unless you think Suh was better.
He has not added to the corner depth so that leads me to believe we will see an early pick on a corner this year.
If he adds Price, Wynn, or Ragnow too then he is doing as much as he can. I cannot be mad at his efforts.
I like the direction and am optimistic about the team's chances of going to the Big Dance this year.
In the end though, participation trophies are not going to be good enough.
Minnesota Vikings fans deserve a Super Bowl victory!
A couple of thoughts...
1. yes, I always keep an open mind to alternative viewpoints.
2. However, when the bearer of the alternative viewpoint(s) needs to stoop to personal insults, derogatory and inflammatory language to attempt to make their point (oh wait, isn't that currently "Presidential"? No I guess that's NY/NJ), it loses whatever impact it might have.
All I can think NJ, is that you must live a hateful, spiteful life.
I have NJ on ignore for at least a year but everyone is keeping this crap thread alive by commenting...like me right now. Who cares what NJ thinks...I certainly don't. He lost credibility with me so long ago he is a one trick rick pony with the same rant over and over again with name calling. Ignore and move on please!
I blame njvike for the Vikings not winning a Super Bowl. He hasn't been a good enough fan. I also blame the beer vendors, the ticket takers, the parking assistants, the quality control coach, the team chaplain and- last but not least - the team chef. (Obviously Moss was on to something)
Clearly they have failed at doing THEIR jobs- because the Vikings haven't won a Super Bowl. I know that none of them have anything to do with what happens during a game... but so what? Just because Rick has built an incredibly talented roster, that doesn't matter. He's supposed to call the plays, install the gameplan and then go out on the field and execute it. So, yes: he's clearly to blame. But at least he's not alone!
Can we let the thread drift back into the pit that is NJ?

See, you have no real response with any merit, so you just try and rip on someone to make them feel inferior.I work shiftwork so i’m up all times of the day and night. You couldn’t handle the hours I keep.

Great summary of my own perspective. I don't mind NJ's occasional rants because, as Mark said, ultimately he's right - the Vikings don't have strong playoff success in their past 30 years, and that is really disappointing and makes me keep analyzing Spielman's efforts. I actually think he gets fired up when other fans start anointing this team and its execs with accolades in the offseason.
But here's the thing: this is not a binary Yes/No referendum on Rick Spielman (or Mike Zimmer). Just because Spielman is not a Super Bowl winner does not mean he should be fired. There is a lot of middle ground, and Spielman currently lives there...but there are a LOT of GMs who are much lower down that middle ground. By my very quick count, there are 8 active GMs who have SB rings, and I don't know that any of them are looking for a new job, so what alternative are you proposing to Spielman? He seems to be improving on some of his past mistakes and has a team that is within striking distance, so are we really supposed to endorse his dismissal?
IMO the most surprising thing about Spielman's tenure is that he has already survived two collapse/rebuild cycles, after Childress and Frazier...few GMs even keep their job after one. If it turns out our current team is not as good as we hope and the bottom falls out again, I will light the first torch. But it's not worth giving up at this point.
