These really crack me up. Anyone have any Kleenex? Pretty obvious the East Coast sports media isn't used to getting owned by the hayseeds in the Midwest, lol.

I dont think the Jets got duped
I think Cousins' agent is masterful
I think Kirk being a Michigan kid felt pretty much at home back in the midwest. MN great place to raise family
Vikings are legacy franchise, best facilities, great ownership, good coaching - maybe great between DeF/Zimmer

When a guy takes less money to play somewhere else other than the Jets, it's an indictment against the Jets. Not the Vikings or the player.

And it ain't taxes - he is paying 300k more in minnesota.  and it ain't weather.

“Two things I kept saying to Kirk,” McCartney said, via the Pioneer Press. “Money is important. Contract is important. But I want you on a daily basis to jump out of bed excited to go to work, to go into a building that has a great culture and a chance to win. But at the same token, at the end of the day, I want you to get excited to go home where your wife and family are flourishing and if we can find both of those I think we’ve done our job.”

This quote was in all the articles. It seems to sum up his decision making process. I had to laugh at the one attacking the juicy Lucy and MOA and talking about how Kirk will be welcomed by New York (or rather the armpit of America aka New Jersey) now. It just goes to show they hate rejection but can't even attempt to be classy about it lol.

I agree.  In past years, it was a struggle for the Vikings to compete with other teams for tier 1 FAs.  They really had to sell it hard, especially with playing in the frumpy dome when other teams would have beautiful outdoor facilities.

That's all changed now, and FAs actually are putting the Vikes at the top of their list.  Cousins to Minnesota seemed to be the fit everyone expected back in January/February.  Getting Richardson is also proof that coming to Minny is a way easier sell now too.

Great facilities, front office, coaches, and winning seasons has really upgraded the image of this team.

Is that right considering he will be paying michigan taxes and not minnesota?

Assuming he lives in Michigan ... He earns his income in Minnesota and therefore he is responsible for nonresident Minnesota taxes.  Which is higher than New York and New Jersey.

Reciprocity supports my argument.

Minnesota and Michigan have an agreement:
if you live in Michigan and work in Minnesota you pay Michigan rate on taxes.

Wow - i do minnesota taxes and michigan taxes - but not with reciprocity.

The reciprocal agreement with NY and other states is different.  you pay the higher tax between the two states and the lower tax goes to the state you live in.

So I was wrong.  Another reason to fuck NY.

Cousins built a house in Michigan in 2017, so presumably that is where he plans to live in the offseason. Michigan and Minnesota have a reciprocal agreement, according to Robert Raiola, director of the Sports & Entertainment Group at the CPA and consulting firm PKF O’Connor. That means Cousins would not have to pay Minnesota tax, just Michigan. The Michigan tax rate is 4.25. If he signed with another team, he would have to pay tax in that state and Michigan. New Jersey’s tax rate is 8.97 by comparison.

simple, you register yourself as a "brand" under a Delaware/TX LLC... wow suddenly it's still your personal income taxes but you don't pay those rates.  It's a big reason all the "big corps" are registered in one place or the other. You literally can reg yourself as a corp, I've seen a ton of insurance agents use that very loophole, and they exist as a citizen of a different state. Pro athletes don't pay state taxes if their agent is even marginally competent.

Read an article that states he'd be at the Michigan rate...but I didn't stay at a Holliday Inn Express last night...

The jets can throw out any excuse they want.  They could make him a mega star, we offered more money, our organization is jsut as good, etc.  The bottom line is they suck and have only one winning season since 2011.  They dumped all their big money guys this year with no sign they are replacing them.  Ever since hiring Zimmer the Vikings have improved and have shown they are committed to winning.  Cousins chose a team that has the number 1 defense in the league, and have improved it.  Cousins chose a team that went to the NFC championship game last year, Cousins chose a team with 2 pro bowl receivers a pro bowl TE and a potentially super star running back. Cousins chose a team with one of if not the nicest indoor stadium in the NFL  not and outdoor wind tunnel like NY.
Bottom line is the only thing they could offer that the Vikings couldnt was more money and a media that will destroy him after the first incomplete pass he throws.
