I'm 51 and will be 52 in August.......
It's rare for me to have this feeling before free agency and the draft, but 2018 is looking pretty freaking stellar. Cook coming back. Our QB situation is "which of these awesome quarterbacks are we going to sign?" The defense last year was historically good.
We have solid depth and $60M in cap space to improve the team.
It's happening. It's happening soon.
Thank you, Steve. When you're in the older generation and have seen it all, you kinda give up. You know how that goes. lol
I'm your generation, in my 50's too...Was a young impressionable lad when we last won a CG in 1977. I would have called you nuts if you would have told me I'd still be waiting 41 years later. Not when SuperBowl's and NFC dominance were the norm.
I feel for the generations of franchise fans who never got to experience it, even the hurt of 0/4 in the big game. But getting there? Damn near priceless.
To answer your question directly? Yah, I believe it'll happen before my maker calls me home.
But I ain't holding my breath anymore. Still buying season tix while I can afford them and healthy to go to games (knock wood). I've also learned over time its just a game and much more to life to be present for each day. But it still would be fun as hell to win it all one year.
Thank you purplefaithful, it's nice to see some of us old-timers having faith still.
I remember as a kid when we'd go Christmas shopping every year, especially in the old "Zayre Shoppers City" stores and we'd be glued to the display tv's of the old "Purple People Eaters" on those tv's. I miss those days!! Any body still remember "Zayre Shoppers City?"

I used to pump gas at the one that was on Hiway 100 in St Louis Park. Anyone remember getting your gassed pumped for you while you waited in the car? And your windshield cleaned off too?
Ok, stay off my lawn as well...
just turned 52 myself. Vikes fan since i was 5.
if we dont win one under Zimmer, I honestly dont think we win the big one before i die.
I don't think we'll win one, but I don't care. They're my team, and I'll watch 'em anyway. I'll only believe they'll win it, when I see it. If winning a SB was a requirement to be a Vikings fan, then I guess we'd all be pretty much screwed by now. B)
I am 49 and turning the big 50 in August. Growing up in Washington, did not get to see the Vikings much, but remember seeing them on Monday night football one time and that was all it took - they were my team. Tarkington running around throwing the ball all over the field and the helmets - damn - I was sold. One of my favorite games watched was the "Mud" Bowl with LA. It was just like my friends and I running around in a muddy pasture, playing tackle football. I do believe that I will see multiple Vikings SB victories before I kick the can. Have always enjoyed the ride, but honestly, when things started going well for the team, somewhere, deep in my being, comes an alarm of some pending catastrophic collapse. I can't help that - side effects of being a Viking fan as others have alluded to. That said, one day, the anticipated collapse will not occur and we will all not know what to do with ourselves!
As one who lived through those late 60's and 70's teams, you always thought that the next season would be "that year". Bud seemingly never aged and it looked like the Vikes would always face and defeat the Rams for the NFC crown.
Then the 80's and 90's came and went as did the ease of returning to the playoffs.
Nothing is taken for granted anymore. But I'm doomed to ride that train of pain.
Skol!
I'll be 58 in June...sadly I have all my faculties and remember every heart-breaking loss since their first Super Bowl appearance. But, I still believe the Vikings will win it all and every year I carry that hope through every season.
SKOL Vikings!!
I'll be 58 in August...I'm also a Cubs fan...So, yeah I think it'll happen...
Just turned 55 last month. Vivid memories start @ Super Bowl IV.
With the current FO in place? My level of confidence in a SB victory before my demise in the next 20-30 years is @ 5%.
When the Vikings had the NUMBER 1 offense (and record setting at the time), they managed ONE playoff win, at home, against the Jake Plummer-led Arizona Cardinals....then shit the bed, AT HOME, against the Chris Chandler/Dan Reeves Dirty Birds.
Most recently, the Vikings had the NUMBER 1 ranked defense (with fans slobbering about an historic 3rd down efficiency rating) and then got ANNIHILATED on the road against a 2nd year HC and a back up QB, after a once-in-a-lifetime miracle victory at home. Yup, DEFENSE travels well.
I am compelled to believe, based on what I've witnessed, that even if the Vikings managed to have the number(s) 1 Offense AND Defense simultaneously, that the Special Teams would somehow manage to choke. It's just what they DO. I am basing this outlook on 6 decades worth of observation, not what I HOPE will occur.
I'll continue to root for these forever-frustrating-fuckers, but this franchise can't expect blind allegiance from long-time/old coot fans such as myself.... not after decades of the inevitable "kick in the 'ol toolbag" ending for EVERY season of promise. There's a limit to my tolerance of "wait 'til next year". 4 decades was my cut-off. I make NO apologies about learning from my experience....you know, " Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 50+ times, shame on me"
As I have said consistently this century, "I'll believe the Vikings can win a Super Bowl once they at least MAKE IT to a Super Bowl".
An NFL team has to WIN 3 or 4 consecutive playoff games in order to win a Super Bowl. The last Viking team that was capable of winning at least TWO consecutive playoff games? The 1987 squad. That's 30 YEARS ago. The current Vikings regime? 2 total playoff (home) victories in the past 13 seasons. Whoop-de-doo.
So it goes.
Peace.
I turn 60 next month.
You probably dont remember all 4 of the superbowl losses. It sukked.
I no longer think I will ever see us win one. Even last season I didnt expect it, especially after the New Orleans playoff game. Teams dont do two of those games in a row.
Good teams make it to the playoffs every year. But only one can win the Bowl. It takes a lot of luck just to get to the NFCC. I dont see the stars aligning
The Vikes best chance to win would have been last year with a home Superbowl game.
51 here.....I'll have to see it to truly believe it. But I like where the team is at right now.
@"MNWILD" said: Does anybody that's near my age honestly believe our Vikings will win a super bowl before we start wearing depends? Let's hear the responses from old farts like myself. At your age you should know better than to trust a fart. :-)
53 and I'm in it for life. Be awesome to win one, but it's just icing for me, not the cake. The cake is building a team that can be very good for a very long time. That comes with good drafting and good cap management. I like where we are...
I am 58. Here is to good health to all of us . We are going to need it.

Alright you young pups. I'll be 63 in August. Be nice to your elders.
Yes, I think we will see it...in my lifetime. Dammit.
