It has to be Asked - What About QB for 2018?
Case Keenum has now won more games in a season than any QB since Brett Favre.
In fact, only Joe Kapp, Fran Tarkenton (twice), and Randall Cunningham have won at least 12 games in a season. In 1970, the Vikings won 12, but it was split between Gary Cuozzo (10 wins) and Bob Lee (2 wins)
So, with a now healthy Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Bradford (practicing today) and Kyle Sloter, who do you think deserves the contract for 2018?
Of course with 3 games to play a lot can happen to change things but it could be a strong market for FA QB's which could make the negotiations tough for both sides. Cousins, Garropalo, Taylor, Bradford, Keenum, Bridgewater, Cutler, Brees.
On the other hand some likely won't hit the market but there are options for teams unwilling to (over)commit before FA. Plus with all the coaches moving and a potential strong rookie class "Bridge" QB's might be the popular types. New coaches/FO might prefer a rookie 'Franchise QB' on the cheap with a middle thirties vet to buy time for the rookie.

Reminds me a lot of Wilson and Prescott when they came out.... I think he would be a great fit for the type of game the Vikings want to play.

Might be a bad thing to sign Case to a 3 year 54 mil deal and draft Baker to groom.

It's proven that a mobile, accurate QB is a good fit for the type of offense Mike Zimmer wants to run... so I don't see that as a bad thing if we drafted a similar QB.
We could/will win the Super Bowl with Keenum at the helm and there would/will still be questions if we would have been better with someone else
@"A1Janitor" said: Try to wrap Case up to a fair contract, make Sloter the backup, trade Teddy and Sam, and draft the next Case Keenum. That's what the Patriots do.
If Case performs well, Sloter or the draft pick becomes trade bait.
How do you trade two QBs that aren't under contract? lol. If you think its possible, please let the league know.
I would be prepared to see Teddy on this roster and Case walk
Hello Vik fans, this is my first post but have lurked here a long time. Been a fan since 68. One other factor that may play into this decision will be Shurmer. If he leaves as I expect he will, depending on who we replace him with, that may play into the type of QB we want for the future.

As there should be. Winning a Super Bowl doesn't make you a franchise QB (Plunkett, Hostetler, Williams, Rypien, Dilfer). Trent Dilfer won a Super Bow for the Ravens and was not even re-signed the following season.
@"A1Janitor" said: I already answered asshole. Don't be a douchebag to me.I meant we can work them for picks ... compensatory and/or sign early and trade later.
My opinion - Sam's long term future isn't reliable ... but if he is healthy, he is a short term option. Some team will be interested. Case is the future, while we develop Sloter and a draft pick.
I love Teddy as much as anyone. Named my goldendoodle after him. I just don't think he will
have much of a career anymore.
How was that being an asshole? I was making light of an honest mistake. I guess get personal. Whatever.
I am not sold on Case being the answer. I think he is playing great within a system and benefiting greatly from a great team. I would be scared to throw any kind of larger sum of money at him. I think Teddy will be the way the team goes. Just a humble opinion is all.
Carry on though.
I think it comes down less to money and more to whether or
not these guys would consider being a backup on a good team rather than a
starter on a potentially lesser team.
I think all 3 of our QBs would consider themselves starting
caliber. Maybe Bradford would accept a
backup role just to make some money while keeping the wear and tear off his
knee. I just don’t see Bridgewater or
Keenum accepting a backup position or a legit competition when they are both
barely out of the gate with their careers.
Bridgewater especially is so hungry to get on the field after last
season and this season were sort of stolen from him. I think he’d play for free if it guaranteed
him a starting job to show what he can do.
Keenum has a taste of starting and I don’t think he’d give that up
coming off a hot streak.
I think there will be plenty of options for them to get a
starting job or competition with a rookie/scrub.
I think the ideal scenario is where we retain Bradford as a
backup if he’s willing and then keep Keenum or Bridgewater as the starter. I think you have to keep Keenum if he wins
the SB, but other than that keep the one that you think will be the best going
forward. If Bradford is also out, try to
draft a QB early, but only if there’s a guy that is smart and has intangibles.
One thing not often mentioned is that the Vikings job should
be the most coveted QB position available to FAs. We can always franchise one of them, which isn't a bad move since they all have question marks. If we can’t retain our QBs or get the best
one in FA, we massively screwed up.
I am expecting much tighter games in the playoffs, Case can win me over if he shows more than just "game manager" traits. If he can lift the offense up when needed and make the defense respect the entire field I will be more inclined to want to see him extended, but if we continue to see floated passes and starring down receivers then I have to say move on. I am not really caring as much about where the ride ends, but rather how Keenum himself looks during the ride. so far I have seen to many ups and downs in his game to say one way or the other, but I would tend to lean towards being conservative with any offer to Case at this point. ( same with Teddy and Sam)

I agree with you Jimmy, except I care most about where the ride ends. All of this other stuff is going to work itself out and we as fans will have to trust what the front office and Zim decide. I'm living in the now, and the now includes this really, really, reallllllllly big dealio called SB 52... :D

Look at how Case did against the blitz. He isn't a game manager.
GodThor—welcome to the board! love the post, keep it up!
@"JimmyinSD" said: the Vikings have won more games with Andrew Sendejo at S than any other S since....the arguement could be made for any player on the team, I dont think its a stretch to say that while Case has played admirably in this offense that the position could be upgraded. Case has earned more years and better money, that is indisputable, however the question remains how much do you give a guy that has a weak arm and is prone to making poor decisions with the ball? I think Case is a guy you can win with... but I dont think he is a QB that will ever win you many games in a season. He is a place holder until somebody better is available.
I think the real question is are Teddy or Sam that better guy coming along to take the job from Case? I think its still a little early for Sloter to be competing for the #1 role, but certainly is in the discussion for next year.
Couldn't agree more, although Case has been great this season but he is just a game manager. He is great with a defense like the vikings, they will keep the team in every game its up to Case to put up just enough points to win. He is a career backup that landed on the perfect team for him to succeed.

Brock Osweiler: His numbers against the blitz were far better than Peyton Manning’s last season. Osweiler led the NFL in yards per attempt (9.83) and passer rating (114.6) against pressure looks. Manning was 24th and 26th, respectively, in those categories. Osweiler has just seven career starts, so it’s a small sample size, but his success against pressure is an encouraging sign for Houston Texans fans.
No one can make any proclamation about who Keenum is as a QB as there are signs of both positive and negative attributes. This is his only good year. Is it his peak? Is he still developing? Is it down hill from here? Can't really answer those.
all three guys should be looking something like Mike Glennon got or better. if not fire their agents. because all three are better than Glennon even with teddy and sam injury history.
id say sam or case go whereever Shurmur ends up. Teddy stays since he is Zimmers guy, a recent first rounder that team was starting to view as franchise guy; and is still only like 24.
teddy may also be cheapest. letting case and or Sam helps our comp draft pick more if they cost more in FA.
only way i see this different is if Case wins SuperBowl. kinda hard to let a qb go after that

we have rarely seen Case take the game on his shoulders, what we have seen is the defense be stifling and the offense use a very good mix of run and pass to get an early lead and then they take the ball out of his hands and go run heavy to kill the clock. good game plan, but when they tried to keep scoring like they did in DC, Cases warts were exposed. Case is not a QB that is going to strike fear into opposing defenses with his arm talent. his scrambling ability has kept him viable, but a stronger armed QB wouldnt necessarily need to run around as much either. I dont want to count on a QBs legs in terms of future production from the position. I want a long term answer to be a strong QB first and an improviser second.Case is a game manager with his average or worse arm strength and unwillingness/inability to throw into tight windows.
