Josh Rosen Says He'd Rather Be Lower Pick on 'Right Team' Than Higher Pick
UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen doesn't seem as interested in being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft as he does in being part of a team that will make the best use of his talents.
"I'd rather be a lower pick at the right team than a higher at the wrong team," Rosen said on Tuesday, per ESPN's Josh Weinfuss.
Rosen's comments come two days after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Bruins star "would be hesitant" to declare for the upcoming draft if he knew the Cleveland Browns were going to select him with the top pick.
Ross Tucker of NBC Sports Network noted there is "no value" in Rosen saying he'd prefer to be drafted lower instead of higher unless he is "going to go all in and refuse to play for a team."

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
He's totally entitled to his opinion...and he's absolutely correct. Ross Tucker, give me a break: why does there have to be 'value' in everything a 21 year old kid has to say? Can't he just be speaking his mind and saying the EXACT same thing the media and everyone else is saying about the situation? Who the hell wants to play for the Browns?
Its common sense, its not like Rosen broke the DaVinci Code or something. (eye roll)
This could get ugly, but you have to look at Manning and Elway and say they made the right decision by refusing to play for the teams that wanted them.
I was curious just how many QBs the Browns have drafted recently in the first three rounds (rounds in which you have a right to expect that pick to eventually compete for a starting job). So I looked it up:
2017: DeShone Kizer (2nd)
2016: Cody Kessler (3rd)
2014: Johnny Manziel (1st)
2012: Brandon Weeden (1st)
2010: Colt McCoy (3rd)
2007: Brady Quinn (1st)
2005: Charlie Frye (3rd)
That's just insane.
As I look into the Browns drafts further, it's just eye-opening. Jaw-dropping shocking. Between 2011 and 2015 the Browns had 8 first round draft picks. 1 of which, Danny Shelton, has been a mild bust. 7 of the 8 have been flat out can't-play-in-the-NFL busts: Cameron Erving, Johnny Manziel, Justin Gilbert, Bark Mingo, Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, Phil Taylor.
And on the rare occasion when they do hit on a player (TJ Ward, Joe Haden, Alex Mack), they send him packing! It's like they're trying to lose. I knew they were bad, but I didn't realize it was this bad. This is an unprecedented level of incompetence.
Question MB ... would those players have been busts if drafted by the right team?
Oh boy...

I'll bet Rosen would like to play with some Bruin alumn here in MN?
Be a nice pix of him, Kendricks and Barr together :)

I would argue no in almost all cases. They were just really, really bad picks.

Its debatable, but impossible to answer. There's no way to know definitively.
In recent history, look at all the "experts" who said Johnny F****** Football was a sure-thing-can't-miss-guaranteed-1st-round-overall-#1-pick. How much influence do these geniuses have on the war rooms around the NFL?
@"StickyBun" said:Yes, impossible to answer completely, but many of these picks were questionable even before they were drafted. For example, about Johnny Manziel, I said before the draft that "in three years he'll be playing in Canada." Out of the NFL. About Justin Gilbert (8th overall pick) I said: "He scares me. From the neck down, I think he's a top 10 pick. But I don't like what's in his head. He's inconsistent, isn't physical enough to press or defend the run, makes too many mental errors...The sort of thing he struggles with tend to compound in the NFL." Out of the NFL. About Trent Richardson, I called him "a 'tease' who will seduce someone only to be released later." Out of the NFL. On Cameron Erving, I liked him early on, but after further study, I determined that he was one of the most overrated offensive linemen in the draft. That he'd never be able to play center in the NFL. After several tries at center in Cleveland, he was traded to KC...where he's now a backup tackle.@"MaroonBells" said:@"A1Janitor" said: Question MB ... would those players have been busts if drafted by the right team?

They have access to film and analytics, ex-coaches, etc. There's NO excuse for how they've drafted, especially from 2011 to 2015, which should be the players that represent the core of their team right now. ALL players have a degree of bust factor. It almost seems as if they identify players with the highest bust factor and move them to the top of the list.

You're correct. And to think there have been times that we as Vikings fans have thought that we have it bad.Not really after looking at that dumpster fire. :)

Since 1990 (25 seasons for them) they're averaging a 5-11 record, and within those years they've only managed to even be .500 for three of those seasons! Just three damn seasons in 27 years they've had more than seven wins!? These players entering the draft don't know a Browns team that hasn't been shit. Hell, even middle-aged people don't. Other than a few years in the 80's they've been basically garbage since the 60's. I don't think anybody, including those in the organization and their fans can blame anyone for not wanting to play there. It's not a rebuilding period or open and closed windows for that franchise. Hope and optimism don't count for much when achieving is just reaching .500. They should let history go and make drastic changes... like renaming the team and changing colors/unis... ANYthing...
And I just heard the Vikings have been in the playoffs something like 27 of their 57 years. Close to every other season. And then you need to remember that its been about 31-32 years with the expanded playoffs, so it was even more difficult back in the day to get to the dance.

Does Aaron Rodgers become Aaron Rodgers if he has to play year 1 with the Browns? I doubt it, but maybe he and his family would be on speaking terms!!!
I think it's Cleveland lack of a consistent system that has led to so many players busting there. We talk about how much our team has grown each year under Zimmer, we'll Cleveland ownership likely would have fired Zimmer after last year. Right or wrong they need to find a GM and coaching staff that are in sync with what they are doing and stick with them for about 5 years minimim. Turnover and turmoil at the top trickles down to shit and suck age at the bottom.
Rosen is the best this class has to offer and hes a damn good QB. I wish the Vikings could have a chance at him. I have liked Rosen since the start of last years.
Never been on the Darnold bandwagon. Too many flaws and his mechanics are nothing to write about IMO. He is saying the right things because he will and is dropping in the draft. He is taking his shot to be the first overall pick after Rosen said he essentially has no interest in the Browns.

Honestly, that's not saying much...it's still a good QB class in sheer numbers of guys that will probably go Day 1, but it's no where near the level I thought of last year...like 1983 part Deaux...these guys all have major warts...I like Mayfield the best and he's too small, but so are others (Brees, Wilson, Case), and he's got some off field concerns...but, like last year these guys will get overdrafted because of the position...
