Going on record, Teddy starts next week
I think this game was exactly the reason Teddy starts next week. We had a big lead and Case went off script and launched an horrible floater into triple coverage.
Zimmer mentioned it it locker room. And after 2nd int, keenum was barely allowed to pass.
I think the coaches said let's just get out with a win and move on.
I think next week with a script to get TB on a good start, they will have the game plan set for TB.
It is a tough decision either way. As Jimmy said, glad I don't have to make it. Just my gut feel on Zimmer tho.
@"JimmyinSD" said:@"Mike Olson" said: Consider this. You pull Keenum for Teddy this week. Ok that's pretty insulting to the guy that got you to 6-2 (one win was Bradford's but really the Chicago loss is sort of Bradford's as well) SO there's that. Now if Teddy starts and he is NOT ready, then you are going back to the guy that you yanked on a short week? I don't think so. I think they will gameplan the offense for both defenses with some augmentation built in if needed. They won't be able to install a full game plan for Detroit anyway. Not sure how similar the two defenses are but I don't expect that they are going to be willing to test the waters with Teddy until after the the Detroit game.
If they go with Teddy and he isn't ready..... They may have tanked their own season in doing so.
uhm... we didnt lose to Chicago... just pittsburgh and detoilet, both of which are Cases.
Oh god I am on less than no sleep. I don't know why I keep thinking we lost to chicago I said the same thing yesterday..... And I was AT THAT GAME.I know that it has been my contention that had we given Case more time to prep for Pittsburgh that we could have won that game.
More coffee.
I think it comes down to this. If you change what has been working for something unknown.... and it doesn't work... The fans will crucify you for it. If you hold off and wait until an opportunity presents itself you look a lot less like you outsmarted yourself.
Flip side is not making a decision can bite you in the ass. Bold decisions are just that, bold. They take guts and leadership. I think the second half of the Redskin game was the opportunity presenting itself. I think it was possible Teddy was going to go in if we had a big lead. But the win was in question so they stayed the course, but limited Case.

im not sure Case was going to beat Pittsburgh in their house no matter how much time he got. Hell Im not sure we would have won that game with Sam. PIttsburgh at home is a damn tough out... like KC in arrowhead.

We were in that game until the end. That game was never out of hand.
the score was ugly but it wasn't that bad of a game.
For example we were within 10 points until about 6:30 in the 4th remaining. We didn't get our offense doing anything until the almost the second half. And then we had to play catch up. Had XCase had a good solid full week of prep rather than a gametime decision I think we fare much better in that game and maybe win it. Pittsburgh was not playing well in that game.

iirc he got the prep work as Sam was held out of practice that week, it just wasnt publicly known until pregame that Case was going to indeed start. I dont think the score was indicative of how the team played. I thought the O looked like shit all day from memory.
all i know, is i'm not prepared to see Teddy against a team like the Rams... being at home helps, but i dont know that after a 18 month layoff i want to see him in the most important game of the season to date. not sure how it's even debatable, you run with what got you here, but Minnesota loves a QB controversy.
And Zimmer has a man crush on Teddy, so i can still see it happening. this town loves the backup QB whomever it is.

I see no way Teddy starts. Case will be playing his former team and highly motivated. Those two throws were bad but all his others helped this team win.
Once you have the big lead you don't keep throwing - you eat the clock. That's all that was.
And I love Teddy but you don't start him at this point.

if thats all that was.... then how did he throw back to back picks? I think the play calling got really conservative once Case got careless with the ball a little to often for Zims comfort.
The Int's made them think about their strategy. Dont' be like the Falcons in the SB.

That's true...whether you're talking about Todd Bouman, Jay Fiedler, Gus Frerotte...or Case Keenum.

I could easily say, by all reports, Bridgewater is out performing Keenum at practice. What kind of message does that send the rest of the team, play hard practice hard and you still sit on the bench. Now if Teddy starts and he is NOT ready, then you are going back to the guy that you yanked on a short week? Edit: Fixed my brain fart on thinking we lost to Chicago)
This is nothing but positive. The Vikings are 7-2 and primed to make the playoffs. The possible franchise QB is ready to take over and somehow this is a negative. It's not. Let the past go, trust the coach that has brought a consistently good team back to Minnesota.
@"greediron" said: looks like 4 passes after the 2 INTs, for a total of 17 yards. So the entire 4th quarter, with us needing a score after they had pulled within 8. Granted we wanted to pound the ball, run the clock, but we needed a score. We settled for a 53 yard FG from Forbath. Anyone think that was a gimme? I was nervous as could be.
So...the #Vikings threw it twice on 3rd down, up 8, game on the line 4th quarter, on the road yesterday. Keenum completed both, Vikes got a FG to put game out of reach. I love Teddy, but come on, Keenum made 2 big time throws after those picks to seal it.twitter.com/greggrosenthal… | |

The thing that matters is we are scoring in the Red Zone. That's what Zimmer wanted, and he got that.
Our passing game is in the top 10 in the NFL. When is the last time that has happen?
I think Teddy starts Sunday. Main reason I say so is because After the Rams game we have three away games and I don't think those are ideal conditions to get him going.
If he starts Sunday, he has that game to at least get a feel for the game and then can embark on the 3 away games.

2 big time throws? 4 passes for 17 yards. The longest one was a swing pass to Rudolph who ran for most of the yards. We needed a score and end up kicking a 53 yard FG. With Forbath who isn't the strongest leg in the NFL.Offense went into a shell.
