Zimmer: Diggs, Easton may play in London

The Minnesota Vikings have been without two key starters on offense over the last two weeks in Stefon Diggs and Nick Easton. On Monday, head coach Mike Zimmer said both have a possibility to return this week as the Vikings face the Cleveland Browns in London.

@"HappyViking" said: To the question about whether Teddy Bridgewater could start against the Browns, Zimmer said, “We’ll see,” and added that a report about the Vikings not wanting to start Bridgewater because of field conditions was not true. Is this really a possibility?  This would make "must see TV" for all of us Viking fans.

Weird this generated no responses yet.  I saw the quote yesterday too.  Maybe people are trying not to get their hopes up because they are Viking and and know what that always leads to.

I have to wonder if they would travel to London with only 2 QB's, if Teddy travels with them wouldn't you at least activate him to be the third?  No Sam?  He should have been put on the 8 week IR after his attempted come back.  Now it's getting late for that to be of any benefit at the end of the year.

I think it's because fans have learned to not believe anything Zimmer says about injured players.

From what I've been reading today, I'm getting the vibe that Diggs might play Sunday.....in fact, probably will play.

Well why wouldn't we play an injury prone guy who has already got a messed up groin and play him on a soccer pitch...

It's tempting but it's such a tease. If Diggs needs more time, give it to him. This might be a good game to try some new things. I think it was smart to give time to get acclimated to the time difference though in planning the trip over.

In a related story, Zimmer has contracted with a 90 year old grandmother of 15 to salt his sidewalks this winter...

guy wants to play. if team decides they “believe” him to be ready and then he should play. just like any healthy player (or deemed healthy enough)

who cares where the game is or on what type of field. if dude gets hurt agan he gets hurt. chances of reinjury do not increase or decrease based on someones level of fear of reinjury. they just happen.

Did you follow the team last year? Would you like Diggs to be available when we get to the really difficult portion of the schedule? Did you see Bradford try and play vs Chicago?
Maybe it's a valid point to look at recent and past history regarding injured players and draw some other conclusion than oh he wants to play let him play...

Apparently has the same turf as Green Bay and Philadelphia.  :/

If either is healthy, play them.  It's the NFL and they get millions for a reason.  The Browns are desperate for a win and don't want to flop on an international stage.  Any NFL team can beat any other NFL team under the right circumstances.

Sitting healthy players makes no sense.  They need the reps and team needs them. We'd go to 6-2 and we will need it, with 5 road games to go

I'm going to guess Diggs was deemed healthy enough to play last year too...I'd rather err on the side of caution and let him heal fully before exposing him and the team to another shit show like last year...especially with a winnable game and a bye coming up...

Diggs said that this year's hammy injury is much less severe than last season. Direct quote. So, who knows?

Looks like no rain in the forecast in London all week and then party cloudy and high of 56 degrees for game time. Might help the field conditions?

If we were in an NFL stadium with an NFL caliber grounds crew...sure...I just think it's beyond stupid to risk a guy who's been injured as frequently as Diggs...when he's right, he's deadly...we are going to need that the second half of the season, not vs the truly hapless Browns..

If a player is truly HEALTHY, 100%, you play him. Everyone would agree with that. But Diggs hasn't practiced fully yet because he's not 100% yet. I think that's reason enough to sit him down against the worst team in the NFL. Especially for a game 4,000 miles away, especially on an unfamiliar surface, especially for a pull injury, (hammy, groin, etc), the kind of injury that can easily be aggravated again if not allowed to fully heal.

I think they activate Teddy for this game and move Sam to IR.  Waiting until the last minute just to be sure and keep a competetive advantage.  If they wait any longer Sam couldnt come back before the postseason-if he can come back.

I dont know that they would start him but I could see them hoping to get him some snaps.

I could see this angle. IR Sam and give him the chance to return if need be by the playoffs, but we have to get to the playoffs first.

Im kind of torn on this one,  groins are a nasty injury in terms of feeling good and then having them pop again.  I tore mine really bad many many years ago and can still feel it if I try and run hard without a good stretch first.   not sure about the turf at griffendorf or where ever the hell they are playing this week,  but I do know that from the games I have watched in the london series in the past that the turf becomes an issue on occassion.   I would say dress and activate Diggs and Easton,  but only in case of emergency.

As far as Teddy.... the only way they should activate him for this game would be is if they are already 100% ready to bring him back next week.  If there is still any doubt to his being fit to play the rest of the year lingering... leave him in the locker room for another week of evaluation.

Kind of like how they knew Bradford was ok to play against the Bears?
If medically the doctors clear them and the players say they are good to go how do you stop them from playing? It would get messy with the players union if they didn't let them play.

Each game is an opportunity for the player to increase their earning potential on their next contract. Holding them out for some strange reason of not wanting them to get injured when they are medically cleared to play wouldn't sit right with the player or the union. And it shouldn't.
