Agreed. Tired take and lazy for those who try to rehash this.
My other favorite is Murray’s win loss record with the Cards. Take a look at their record WITHOUT Murray. Prime example, 2-3 with him last year, 1-11 without. All time it’s something like 5-25 without K1.
But many will just regurgitate things they’ve seen without checking deeper or make up easily disproven bull shit to suit their narrative.
Regardless. Looking forward to seeing K1 with this surround. I’m guessing Jefferson ends up with more than 2 TDs this year.

Andrew Whitworth: The former NFL tackle and Super Bowl champion criticized Murray's lack of vocal leadership and on-field demeanor (has already shown this with the Vikings), specifically noting that he failed to rally around his teammates or provide sideline motivation during games. [1, 2]

Carson Palmer: The former Cardinals quarterback pointed out Murray's leadership deficiencies and poor body language (where have we seen this before), particularly emphasizing that he needs to keep a strong, positive presence during difficult games. [1]

Connor Hughes: A SNY reporter shared feedback from an anonymous former Cardinals coach who called the idea of Murray leading a developing locker room a "disaster," citing major concerns over his work ethic and connectivity. [1]

Patrick Peterson: Murray’s former teammate publicly questioned his leadership on his All Things Covered podcast, suggesting that Murray put his own interests above the head coach. [1]

Former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Brice Butler criticized Kyler Murray, claiming on a podcast that the quarterback "is not really a leader" and that people "don't surround himself around him"

Sure seems to me that he is still very much the same QB. The media talk about him not getting all the first team reps is exactly who he is. Places blame on anyone else but himself for his mistakes. To say or even pretend like his is a true leader is lazy in its own right coming out of people mouths. Which makes the talk that the team is still behind JJ as the leader of the Vikings makes absolute sense.

I don't see this as resistance. I think being cautiously optimistic is a perfectly acceptable outlook on this season. I just don't need to go full chub for Kyler. Regarding mid QBs, we as a community have had this conversation many times. Mid QBs are a low probability to win a SB. I like that Kyler raises our floor, but the odds of us winning a SB this year aren't great. They're probably pretty similar to 2024, where it's likely that we'll beat up on bad teams in a 3rd place schedule, but can we survive a gauntlet of playoff caliber teams? A lot will have to go right.

"And then that next year, as things get stale, as you really have to focus and hone in on somebody's leadership skills and those things, I think that's when you'll see it trail off. But again, this year, I'm really looking forward to it. I think it's gonna be a great show." - Fitzpatrick

Another red flag about his real leadership. It is clearly known what kind of QB Murray is at the end of the day. Maybe we can get a great year out of it.

What? Kyler's 3rd or 4th best season statline wouldn't even come close to Darnold in 2024. Dude threw for 35 TDs and 4300 yds (and ran in a TD).

Kyler hasn't cracked 4000 passing yards ever and his highest passing TD total is 26.

The hyperbole around Kyler (both good and bad) is outta control.

It's a little like Brett Favre without the hall of fame talent. I never liked the guy and now he is playing for the Vikings!

I can honestly say I havent watched enough of Murray over the years to form a strong opinion. That said, I am looking forward to what he can do with this surround and if he can stay on the field.

Could be a fun year after a tortuous 2025 for Viking fans.

I do have opinions on McCarthy, and (in spite of those opinions) I'm holding out hope he can become the QB we all hoped for when he was drafted top 10.

But man, the kid has got to improve on a lot (especially accuracy) or he will not be a starter here.

I found this on the inter-webs and spent some time verifying with AI.

Among QB's with at least 200 pass attempts, McCarthy was:

  • 36th of 36 in Pro-Football Reference’s “On-Target” percentage

  • 34th out of 36 in Success Rate

  • 35th in completion percentage

  • 35th in passer rating

  • 36th in interception percentage

To paraphrase from our master word salad head coach, that is not baseline QB play. Hindsight is 20/20, but I believe that what the Pack did with Rogers over 3 years b4 starting is exactly what young JJM needed (less the injuries).

It’s hard to believe that after everything we’ve seen, there are people who still think you need an elite QB to win a Super Bowl.

You mention Sam’s rushing TD but don’t include Kyler’s? Still, you’re right, Kyler’s 3rd best season wasn’t as good as Sam’s 2024. But it’s not far off.

Sam 2024
4531 tot yards
36 tot tds, 12 INTs
Passer rating 102.5
Took 48 sacks
QBR 57.3

Kyler’s 3rd best season (2021)
4217 tot yards
29 tot tds, 10 ints
Passer rating 100.6
Took 27 sacks
QBR 63.2

And for what it’s worth….

Kyler’s best season (2020)
4790 tot yds
38 tot TDs, 12 INT
Passer rating 94.3
Took 31 sacks
QBR 61.9

I think some ex-teammates of Kyler are excited to see him in Minnesota with that surround. Which honestly should probably excite more Viking's fans than it does, but I get the wait-and-see on that...for sure. If Murray feels like this is his shot and he wants to show the world, man that's a good place to start I think.

You were set on your way of thinking with JJ. You just dropped him to follow along with the Murray circle jerk. I respected your strong stance. Following that kind of leadership is why we have the kinds like Mamdani, Ilhan Omar, and Omar Feteh trying to lead a bunch of followers. We will see how "well" that will work out for all of us.
