Jay Z and his company took over responsibility for the NFL Halftime show in 2019. Since then:

2026: Bad Bunny
2025: Kendrick Lamar with special guest SZA
2024: Usher with special guests Alicia Keys, Jermaine Dupri, H.E.R., will.i.am, Lil Jon, Ludacris
2023: Rihanna
2022: Eminem, Dr. Dre. Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige
2021: The Weeknd
2020: Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Emme Muniz

Doesn't quite seem indicative of all musical genres... Seems more indicative of Jay Z's preferences.

Second time performing in last 5 years for Bad Bunny and twice for Kendrick Lamar in same time frame.

Well, these are definitely some of the biggest names in music right now. What's more, when you listen to music played during training camp and practices, at tailgates, accompanying highlight videos, and played in stadiums during timeouts at NFL games, not to mention a vast majority of the walk up songs in the MLB, oddly enough it's not Pink Floyd. It's the artists listed above.

It may not be your music; it's not mine either. At US Bank 8 days ago I had to repeatedly turn to my son and ask "who is this" when a song I never heard before was literally being sung word for word by thousands. It might be time to wake up and realize you're old.

...oh yay, more lip-sync'd, autotuned, choreographed crap direct from the same "entertainment group" that seems to ignore all other genres.

Seems like a good time to sneak in a favorite episode of Letterkenny or Shoresy.

KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

Not my jam.
But honestly, Bad Bunny was funny as hell in Happy Gilmore 2.
Had it not been for that, I wouldn't have a clue who he was.

I was hoping for taylor swift, not because I would have tuned in.... but just to see the heads explode over it.

Signed.

I had a kid at Staples ask me, prior to last year's Superbowl, how I felt about the "TaylorBowl". He actually had to explain the reference, and said a ton of customers growled about it.

I thought that was odd, and said "they show her a couple times, for about 4 seconds. Some of us survived the Madonna years, this is nothing".

The kid actually started Googling Madonna's early years, I felt biblically old.

should have sent him after "up with people"  i remember when they were doing super bowls.  my parents used to host kids when they came through our area and we had I think 2 that had gotten to do super bowls, or were scheduled to perform that year.

I barely tune into the SB anymore since its become such a shit show of media driven garbage and the commercials have gone to crap.  I think Tom Petty was the last half time show I actually sat down to watch.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

https://www.billboard.com/lists/most-watched-super-bowl-halftime-shows/kendrick-lamar-16/

No Prince, no Bruce, no U2....the top three most-watched halftime performers? Rihanna, Usher and Kendrick Lamar. Of course timing, and the overall growth of the NFL audience, plays a big factor in these stats. And trust me, Bad Bunny's going to shatter all of those records by a mile. The Super Bowl is a global phenomenon now. And Mr. Bunny's appeal in Latin America is enormous.

I realize I’m a relic of the past and the rock stars of my era are dinosaurs, but are there not any current rock stars, bands?

I'm a relic as well...

I probably listen to Indie most, but I also luv the old school rock (Allman Bros, Marshall Tucker, Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones, Kinks)

I think a lot of the younger gen's rock today falls under the Indie umbrella?

But I'll bet country, pop, hip-hop and rap makes up the bulk...Country is crazy popular today, maybe more so than ever?

A number of, um, red-accessorized people seemed unaware of PR's status with the United States.

Apparently, also, the announcement of Bad Bunny as the halftime lip-syncer supreme is causing some absolute meltdowns.

Apparently, switching channels for 20-30 minutes is soul crushing, or something.

I think in my entire life as a football fan (since around 1980) I have actually watched the halftime show 2 times. Have never been part of the demographic the NFL is searching for.))

cant honestly say I have heard one word on it except for here,  and zero angst over it here that I've seen except the genre, nothing to do with anything that would be construed as other.

honestly if it wasnt for a post above... I wouldnt have a clue that he wasnt from NY.
